Marloes Blaas Catwalk Fashion Show SS2010

Like Franciscus van der Meer, Marloes Blaas also used the second World War as an inspiration. She drew much inspiration from peasant life and the atmosphere surrounding the liberation of that war.

We saw an army green uniform and a thick black leather top which looked very powerful. There were tough shorts with extra pockets and well tailored jackets. On the other hand Marloes opted for airy fabrics and feminine faded prints. So there were some contradictions in this collection.

We have to say the army outfits looked slightly stronger than the elegant, airy items. The prints looked great, yet the army clothes looked more outspoken and different from what we’ve seen before.

Individuals by AMFI Catwalk Fashion Show SS2011

The Individuals fashion show we saw on Thursday was named Some dream of running away to the circus. The show was all about elegant wearable clothes with fun details. After lots of smoke was blown in the air the first girls appeared. They wore dresses, tops and pants in purple and champagne. Some pleats and fringes were nice details and most of the clothes were loose fitting.

Leather accessories like gloves and knee-bands gave the looks a fun twist. And the knee stockings added some extra color.

The models all had beautiful make-up, completely matching with the show’s circus theme. The colors of their clothes (dazzling white, popping pink, daring turquoise en cannon ball black) were used for the make-up as well.

The collection had some pretty strong outfits in it. They were beautifully tailored and had a nice, wearable silhouette.

Individuals is an ever changing collective of young creative designers. By combining talent every time an inspiring story is told. Every generation adds it’s own unique chapter to the continuing story of Individuals.

Individuals is sold in the Netherlands and is now focusing on expanding abroad (United States, France, Japan and Denmark). In September an Individuals pop-up store will be opened in London.

Une petite robe noire Catwalk Fashion Show SS2011

With her latest collection designer Indra Welman in fact released a best of collection straight away. She took the concept of the little black dress she’s so fond of and created a whole collection around it.

Each one of the little black dresses was born from a unique source of inspiration. And though sensuality is the main motive for any little black dress, Indra Welman redefined what is considered sexy.

The models had shiny white lips and did some crazy feminine poses before they started walking the runway, a hand kiss or one leg in the air, for instance. Their black dresses had lots of details like fringes and ruffles.

Yet it was not all black dresses we saw. Some black hotpants, a green top and two beige dresses with black accents on them came by too. One of those beige dresses had the shape of underwear cut out in black and attached to the front.

Indra herself appeared on stage in one of her own dresses. She gracefully walked the runway and looked very proud.

MaryMe-JimmyPaul Catwalk Fashion Show SS2011

Marie Burlot and Jimmy Paul seemed to make fun of the fashion world big time today. Their collection JonBenet Ramsey (a beauty queen by which the designers were inspired) told the story of going to school for the first time, but felt more like an ode to Barbie.

All looks of the small collection were pink, purple and blue from head to toe. The shoes, the accessories, the make-up and the clothes all breathed Barbie.

The clothes had lots of volume and had fur and sequins all over them. The soundtrack of the show was the song ‘Gimme more’ from Britney Spears sang by someone else very false.

At the end of the show all curly haired models waved at the audience. The designers came on stage dressed up with masks and caps. It seemed like they didn’t take themselves too seriously. Yet they must have had a lot of fun making this collection and sure made the audience smile.

Heren van Koster Catwalk Fashion Show SS2011

Heren van Koster, the fashion label of designer Roos Koster presented it’s new summer collection today. It was the first collection that Roos presented under her own label as an independent designer.

The label, Heren van Koster, in which the silhouette plays a central role started it’s show with a short clip. In the clip we saw a man dressing himself in several Heren van Koster outfits. With every outfit he put on the name of that item appeared on screen (for instance the name ‘pikbroek’ – ‘cockpants’). A funny tune gave the video an extra comic twist.

The clothes Roos had designed were eye-catching, yet not very wearable. Male models with ponytails and black painted clown faces wore short top and jackets with pants that had remarkable crotches. They had tucked the legs of their pants in their boots. The clothes came by in red, white, brown-/purple-ish and yellow. They had all kinds of zippers and pockets.

Between the light summery stuff Roos showed some winter items as well. Several thick coats looked kinda cool, yet a little too hot for summer.

About Roos van Koster
Roos studied at AMFI and Artez. She presented her graduation collection in collaboration with FIA during the Amsterdam International Fashion Week in January 2009 and in Paris during the pret a porter in March 2009.

SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers Catwalk Fashion Show SS2011

After showing in London and Milan for years twin sisters Riet en Truus Spijkers are back in Amsterdam. Today they held a fashion show to present their brand new clothing line SIS.

SIS, short for sister, is the new diffusion line (and the little sister)of the fashion label Spijkers en Spijkers. ‘It’s something totally different, but the clothes still have a recognizable Spijkers en Spijkers touch’, explains Truus Spijkers. SIS is less pricy than the regular line and is more widely accessible.

The show started with a film of moving clouds, then the models appeared. They looked like the typical Spijkers en Spijkers women; long, tall, with long blond hair, like the twin sisters themselves, but with a whole new wardrobe.

The clothes of the first SIS collection were inspired by a Dutch folk song from 1774 (Daar was laatst een meisje loos) and had all kinds of maritime references. The collection told the story of a girl looking for adventure and sailing along with a captain whom she fell deeply in love with.

This story was translated through plain blue, green and white (colors of the sea) dresses with eye-catching buttons, pockets and folded boats and parrots as details on the collars of several pieces. Those were alternated by great designs with prints of sailing ships, sea horses and different types of shells in blue and white. Meanwhile Sail Away by Enya was on the speakers.

Of course with a theme like this Riet and Truus incorporated a Breton stripe in the collection. Some small black and white checked prints and several grey outfits looked great as well. Jumpsuits, jackets with tucked up sleeves and cute little shorts proved the designers stayed true to themselves with this collection.

And the best part of this story is the new SIS line will be available for prizes ranging from 85 to 350 euro.

Let’s hope Spijkers en Spijkers will continue showing this line in Amsterdam. It’s good to have you back girls!

Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Catwalk Fashion Show FW2011

Jean Paul Gaultier’s couture collection was all about proportions. The designer accentuated the shoulders and the waists of his designs and therefore made his models look super feminine. His shoulders were not highlighted like on a regular eighties dress, they had extra (thick) fabric and even fur on them which was placed on a big part of the sleeves.

All models wore hat sculptures, which, regardless of their crazy shape, looked quite elegant.

The collection was an obvious fall/winter collection; lots of leather, lots of fur and lots of black. There were a few outfits in remarkable colors though, like a bright green dress, a yellow (almost neon) one and a purple jumpsuit.

With a few looks Jean Paul Gaultier was reminiscing his previous success items. He for instance emphasized the boobs and buts of one outfit by placing a cone of black mink on them to remind us of his already unforgettable cone bra moment.

The whole collection felt very Parisian chic; the models looked sexy and feminine. Dita von Teese’s appearance was the perfect match for this kind of fashion show. The burlesque artist walked the catwalk twice in a detailed lingerie look to promote the upcoming lingerie line of JPG and La Perla.
