Who would have ever thought Teva sandals would appear on a Versace runway? A sign that, for SS2017 Donatella Versace was ready to change things up a bit. Adding ‘sportive’ to her usual ‘strong’ and ‘sexy’ collection. She introduced color blocked parkas and leather jackets to add to her selection of bodycon leggings, mini skirts and tight dresses. Next summer the Versace woman is going places other than cocktail parties and night clubs. But even in a midnight blue raincoat she’ll make heads turn, just like closing model Gigi did tonight.

NYFW SS2017 Trend Round-up

NYFW is a wrap and what a week it was. From Kanye’s opening show to Marc Jacobs closing we’ve been presented with an inspiring fresh fashion season. Current styles have been further explored as revolutionary new ideas made their way onto the NYC runway. See now buy now was the overall theme as clothes straight from the catwalk immediately went on sale. Some of the crisp trends even already experienced their streetstyle moment. We’re talking cinched waists, cut out shoulders, foldover skirts and summer-y pinstripes looking splendid on some of today’s streetwear stars. Next summer you can even leave the house in robe-like coats or dressed bikini tops. And of course spring is the time for florals and ruffles. Ultimate wardrobe classics like the white shirt and the kaki trench coat are being deconstructed and updated in tons of ways. Yellow will be the main color for summer. Cut-outs are cool and a sweater with an image of Elvies on it is even cooler. Oh and did you notice the focus on the sleeves has now led to sleeves getting their own slit? To sum things up before we jump ahead to London Fashion Week here’s a fingerlicking first trend selection for spring/summer. Items you want to get your hands on right after you’ve clicked through our gallery.

Sisters of the Castle Amsterdam Fashion Week fall/winter 2016

A show, unlike any other we have ever witnessed, that was Sistaaz of the Castle by photographer Jan Hoek & fashion designer Duran Lantink. Their project is based around the colorful looks of transgender sex workers on the streets of Capetown. Today a collection based on those fashionable types and their ability to make the most outspoken looks out of anything and everything they can find was presented. A photo exhibition with this very same theme can be visited at the Foam photography in Amsterdam, including portraits of six girls Coco (25), Cleopatra (23), Sulaiga (30), Gabby (29), Flavinia (33) and Joan Collins (57). Pictures that eventually formed the lookbook images for Duran Lantink’s collection and were projected onto today’s backdrop. During the show the audience got to know a little bit more about their lives, their dreams and the way they hope to be perceived by others. Six models were put up on a driving backdrop, each portraying one of the six transgender sex workers. They were fully dressep up and had gotten completely into character. In between different models showed Duran’s latest wearable designs as an explosive finally followed. A spectacle almost impossible to describe in words. Oh well, just check out the images and see it for yourself.

And we’re in business! The official programme of Amsterdam Fashion Week’s 24th edition kicked off on Thursday night with two large overview shows. The first one, Dutch Visionaries, was an assemblage of the most diverse Dutch designs. Iconic brands that have shown their collections during previous editions of the previous Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam like Spijkers en Spijkers, Avelon, G-star, Laundry Industry, Tony Cohen, Bas Kosters and Mattijs, yet upcoming young talent as well. All of them presented three looks. No new designs, just a selection of their statement making pieces worn by dressed up models. Gender blended models with a free spirited attitude, XL wigs, bright coloured make-up and transparent plastic masks, that took the designs to a whole new (very different) level. A remarkable mix of Madonna and Diane Vreeland through the speakers, concluded by Britney Spears’ Oops I did it again. Proof that anything and everything is possible during the opening night of Amsterdam Fashion Week. A week all about the diversity of fashion in years, styles, names and visions embraced by Mercedes-Benz. Let’s go!
