John Varvatos Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2011

After just the first look the mood was set at John Varvatos. Dressed in a loose blouse and a slightly flared pair of trousers, accessorized by an eye-catching necklace the look of the long haired model breathed seventies, hippie-chic, romance and freedom.

From that first look on the loose silhouette continued (as well as the long hair). First in multiple grey tones. Changing from a loose fitting suit jacket to a military jacket and later a long cardigan (never without the necklace).

Waistcoats, suede jackets, a checked pair of pants and scarfs with the print of the American flag followed in shades of sand, camel, off white and black. All styled with a seventies vibe (lots of layering), but just as wearable combined with some less outspoken items for anyone who’s not feeling the early Rolling Stones style.

Trend Report SS2011: Style & Lace

Graceful, feminine and perfect for summer; lace is a big trend this season. Dolce & Gabbana was all about lace and is one of the most popular collections. Also Chanel and Louis Vuitton showed us they know how to work the lace into your look.

We kind of expected the lace at fashion houses like Alberta Ferretti, Oscar de la Renta and Marchesa. Yet at Issa, Erdem and McQueen it was more of a surprise. Especially since Erdem and Issa were all about color. Not the regular white and black, but purple, green and red lace.

So this season it’s not only underwear that is beautifully embroidered; dresses, pants, skirts and tops may be embellished too. And besides lace clothing fashion accessories like shoes or clutches work really well in this fabric too.

Just take some inspiration from our photo gallery and have fun with this summer trend!

Toronto fashion Week is already half way. Joe Fresh, Attitude, Marthe Aime and Rachel Mara were the next to present their collections. As Creative Director of the Joe Fresh Style® brand, Joe Mimran is committed to offering women, men and children stylish and versatile looks for every day that are both well-designed and well-priced.

Attitude is a modern, edited collection from Sears that offers Canadian women stylish looks without the designer price tag. Basic wardrobe staples like the suit jacket, the cardigan and the trouser are anything but. The looks take a cue from modern trends without being trendy, making it easy to put together a signature look that is chic and new.

The brand Marthe Aimé was born from the desire of the designer Barbara Asei-Dantoni to rethink high-end textile accessories creating new clothing codes. Marthe Aimé is worn by a free spirit with a desire to stand out – an eye for detail and a taste for the finer things in life. The archetypal lines combine the past and present in a neo-modern classic spirit.

Rachel Mara understands modern femininity. Straddling the balance between delicate and powerful, sophisticated and flirtatious, Rachel works to show harmony within contrasts. She creates pieces that appeal to a woman whose interest lie within the tension between classic and modern.
