Étranger Amsterdam Fashion Week fw2010

On a special location in the centre of Amsterdam Taiwanese designer Lifu Hsiao presented his debut collection for winter 2010. Everyone gathered in a 17th century cellar underneath a monumental bridge. Thanks to this location there immediately was a good vibe at the show. Some great old sing-a-long songs made it even better.
Hsiao’s collection was youthful and classic at the same time. Colors like yellow, red and blue and a few checked patterns made the collection look like fun. Loose-fitting skirts and blouses gave it a classic look.
Lifu Hsiao gave his designs a very own twist by adding reversed shoulder pads, A-line skirts and lots of zippers. As a matter of fact the models were all zipped up from their collars to theirs skirts, leg warmers and boots. The clothes were made out of nylons and polyesters combined with wools, silks, and cottons.
Though the press review read highly erotic, we didn’t totally feel that by looking at Hsiao’s collection. Yet it was hard to describe the clothes in one or two words.

“A new era has begun in which power is back where it belongs, women finally will take over authority. SuperTrash tells this story with her new winter collection, specially created by Power women for Power women! Who can we honor better to celebrate this than the most famous queen of our history that ruled over a whole empire: Miss Cleopatra.” This was according to their pressrelease.
And it was a strong woman indeed that walked the catwalk at the Supertrash-show. And she couldn’t care less what others would think of her ultra-tight, short dresses, high heels, glitzy leggings and comfy cardigans or leather jackets. Colors moved form black to brown, green and off white. Silver studs, golden tinkles and long zippers made it look more tough, while big flower-prints added a touch of femininity.
Non by Kim Amsterdam Fashion Week fw2010

The Non by Kim fashion show started with the sound of strong wind. Models with snow in their hair appeared on the catwalk in heavy woolen sweaters and thick scarves.
The show was inspired by the South Pole, so Kim Bakker designed the clothes of a whole new civilization, which could be living in the midst of the pole.
Halfway the show the models acted as if they were walking on cracking ice, thus they carefully walked the first part of the runway.
The colors of the collection were gray, light blue and brown. A pair of trousers and several Norwegian knitted sweaters were made out of all sorts of colored wool.
Some models wore glasses that looked like ski glasses from the old days. Other models had a bright blue contact lens in one of their eyes.
The fashion label Non by Kim was founded in 2007 by designer Kim Bakker. During this Amsterdam Fashion Week she presented her fourth collection of menswear.

On Thursday evening designers Mada van Gaans and Camilla Norrback presented their new collections. The show area was fully packed. And what everyone wants to know is, who was sitting frontrow? We photographed some of those (frontrow) people.

During the Swedish Evening at the Amsterdam Fashion Week Swedish fashion designer Camilla Norrback showed her new collection. Male and female models both walked the runway.
The womenswear looked feminine, classic and very wearable. We saw pinafore dresses with cute collars that appeared to be inspired by Veruca from Charlie and the Chocolate factory.
Other eye-catching details were puffy sleeves and accentuated shoulders. The designs had floral prints, stripes and bows. And the girls all walked on boots with wedge heels.
The male models wore long cardigans and their high waisted pants had rolled up legs.
The total collection was inspired by the thirties. The colors in Camilla’s fall/winter collection were navy blue, orange, beige and brown.
Camilla Norrback started her fashion label in 2002. Her clothes are called eco-luxe, while Camilla uses ecological and natural materials. Camilla Norrback is available in Amstedam and Antwerp. The English fashion label Topshop recently named Camilla Norrback one of the twelve emerging names in fashion.

Quoc Thang Amsterdam Fashion Week fw2010
Malasian Quoc Thang today showed at the Amsterdam Fashion Week for the first time. He presented a small and sober menswear collection inspired by skippers-work-clothes, introduced by the sound of waves.
The skipper aspect was visible through some tunic t-shirts and overcoats. Quoc Thang also presented many woolly items like long cardigans and heavy woolly pants. We mostly saw shades of gray, beige and black. One outfit looked more like a skipper’s sleep-clothes, while it resembled a pajama. A strange-looking gray design with long braids attached, raised some questions.
For this show Quoc Thang cooperated with Timberland. The brand delivered all shoes and Quoc Thang designed one pair himself.
Quoc Thang (1979) was born in Malaysia and was educated at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. After his graduation he worked on several fashion projects in Paris and Berlin. In 2009 he started his own brand and named it Quoc Thang.
