LICHTING 2023

The Lichting 2023 award was won by designer Yousra Razine Mahrah, who just graduated from ArtEZ. Her comment on her collection: “I am not afraid. Not afraid to combine materials or concepts that exist in different worlds. This is also because I am a person that navigates within worlds that are clashing against each other and I am standing in the middle of it trying to make it work.”
Embarking on a creative journey that weaves together four distinct facets of her personal identity as a Moroccan woman, Yousra displayed a technically immaculate collection drawn from her upbringing in a restrictive Islamic household. Influences from Berber Folklore people in Morocco, Moroccan street style fashion, the vision her parents held for her – a more conservative and modest appearance, and lastly her own sartorial choices. Sensual lingerie against parental modesty, Berber goat skin traditions, and Dutch-imposed stereotypes create a dynamic tension between concept, as well as material and texture choices. Using Geert Wilders’ notorious 2014 “Minder Marokkanen” speech as the backdrop of her show, her collection K*TMAROKKAAN withholds a powerful statement that, similar to her designs, won’t go unnoticed.

With Dutch conscious-couture designer Ronald van der Kemp in charge of the curation of the show, expectations for the Steve Madden presentation were high. For the creative direction of the Steve Madden FW23 collection, Van der Kemp consequently decided to once again walk the rebellious path and pair the footwear with ensembles entirely made out of paper.

The footwear was ranging from chunky black loafers that exude an air of casual insouciance to knee-high lace-up’s and heavy black ankle boots, adding a distinctive edge to their ensembles. A pink bedazzled Mistica sneaker followed by a line-up of hardcore attire. A perfect match with the paper outfits.

MARTAN’s Spring-Summer ‘24 collection was created entirely from upcycled hotel linens and showcased a realm of imaginative potential that extends beyond the conventional confines of fashion production. A nod to nautical seemed to be the red threat that weaved itself onto the catwalk.

10Days Amsterdam Fashion Week FW2018

Our Sunday morning started off with 10DAYS x Emily Marant. The lifestyle brand which is all about style and comfort always has a special focus on Amsterdam. Yet today the Californian dream awaited us with surf boards and palm trees as a backdrop. And so we imagined ourselves on a beach, even though the collection was more sporty than beach-y.

Key words for the collection are contemporary, comfortable an cool. A strong line up filled with wearable, simple yet interesting looks. Like the soft joggers and comfy sweaters given a sporty touch in the form of a cross body fanny pack or a pair of crispy white sneakers. We spotted tie-dye details and bright colors. Models looked stunning in the brand’s ton sur ton looks (a menswear in mint green and some womenswear looks in red, blue and grey went straight onto our wishlist). Proof that simplicity – less is more – often does the trick.

Ohhh and ahhs when the kids came onto the runway sporting looks that formed a perfect mini version of the mens and womenswear items. Sporty stripes and leopard prints, comfy leggings and cosy vests. The 10DAYS message (and motto) was clear; fashion should be comfy and fun, for us as well as for the little ones.

At the end of the show Creative Director Barbara Hilbrink entered the runway together with Emily Marant; their way to announce their collaboration for a limited edtion 10DAYS x EMILY MARANT capsule collection available as of end 2018. A limited edition ‘Fashion Week Trainer’ was on sale in the AFW shop right after the show. Everything else was on sale right away as 10DAYS put their See now buy now formula into practice.

Maison365 Amsterdam Fashion Week SS2019

So Amsterdam Fashion Week has a brand new director, Danie Bles. For the ones who don’t know her yet, Danie has been working in fashion all her life. She started out as a stylist (of the stars), then built her own brand (collaborating with and hosting events and shows for big commercial brands such as L’Oréal) and she has had her own fashion label ByDanie for several years.

Given the fact that Danie is so familiar with setting up events and organising fashion shows it comes as no surprise that she would hold her own fashion show during her very first Amsterdam Fashion Week. And so on Friday morning we attended the show by her personal styling service Maison365 (a styling service sending you a box with three looks based on your personal style).

Fifty fall looks styled by Danie and her team entered the runway. Looks of different boutique brands that are linked to Maison365. “With Maison365 we want to show how we work when it comes to unique and complete personal styling. Plus we offer smaller, ambitious brand a chance to be part of a big event like Amsterdam Fashion Week”, Bles stated.

She and her styling team inspired us with a variety of fall looks in three different categories; Paris, upcoming Scandinavian talent and the Seventies. A casual start of leather pants and oversized sweaters. Looks styled off with loafers and berets for that extra Parisian feeling. More urban were the oversized coats and parkas styled off with fanny packs and hoodies. And we ended up in the party section of Maison365. With sparkling tops and pleated skirts, sequined shiny pants and luxurious looking velvet and jacquard suits given an extra glam touch by headbands and shiny earpieces.

The overall message was clear: from day to night, desk to dancefloor Maison365 has got you covered.
