This was Amsterdam Fashion Week FW2012

Fashion is vaporized. All cameras are packed. Make up dissolved. The stage disappeared. This 16th edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week attracted almost 20.000 people. Visitors enjoyed the vibe and nice shows, to name some highlights: the openingnight with Bas Kosters and Sjaak Hullekes, the Lab-shows, Sage & Ivy-show, SIS by Spijkers & Spijkers, Jan Boelo and the Cast Iron-show. A special thanks to the organization of Amsterdam Fashionweek who made it all work out smoothly.

We’re on our way already to the next fashionweeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris.

So we’ll meet again.

Impressions of AFW FW2012 Day 1

The first day of Amsterdam Fashion Week is a fact. Highlights of yesterday were the opening party, the Sjaak Hullekes-show and the Bas Kosters-show, with the launch of his magazine Extra Kak and a performance of the designer himself.

Sjaak Hullekes Preview Amsterdam Fashion Week

Sjaak Hullekes is the second designer to reveal a little bit of the collection he will show at the Amsterdam Fashion Week. Together with Bas Kosters Hullekes will present his  fall/winter 2012/2013 collection on the opening-night, Wednesday 25 January at 07.00 PM. He spoke with us about his brand new collection.

Show
“The first time I showed my collection during Amsterdam Fashion Week was in 2007. Although it’s been a while, I’m glad to be back. I decided to show again during AFW since the fashion week has made a new start. It’s more about the fashion again, instead of the people and the party.”

Goal
“For us showing at AFW is about showing my work to the press and trying to sell. Yet we also want to give everyone in the audience a small stimulant. It’s good to be able to show our collection to a broader audience.”

Time
“We’re right on schedule for this collection. Since we’re going to Paris a few days before the show, everything had to be done in time. There’s still some work to do but I am not worried. At some point you just have to have faith in the people around you, so I am actually pretty calm.”

Inspiration
“Our inspiration for the show is Gemstone. The collection is about the contrast between the way we work with technology nowadays versus the way in which people just used to work with what the earth had to offer. To get in the mood for this collection we watched the movie Pink Narcissus and we watched clips of Serpentine Dancers. The city Marrakesh was also a big source of inspiration. We visited the city a couple of times and just love how everything stimulates your senses; the hammam, the gardens, the herbs.”

Look & feel
“The color palette of the collection is very rich, we used deep shades like amber and aubergine. We also used Berber influences and you’ll see aesthetic and mystic references.”

Dance
“We’re going to show a total of 40 looks; 32 looks we will show on models and 8 other looks will be shown on dancers. I cannot tell you anything more about that. Let’s just keep it a surprise until Wednesday.”

Arnhem Mode Biennale 2011: Young Designers

The installation Prologues shows you the work of 22 different young designers. They are uncomprimising, ingenious and resourceful. They make the fashion they want to make without thinking to much about the wearability. With this installation Amber wants to celebrate this attitude and not let the designer’s creativity be stopped by commercialism.

You’ll see designs of Central Saint Martins students next to designs of Bas Kosters and Marryme-JimmyPaul.

Official opening Arnhem Mode Biennale 2011

Amber has arrived in Arnhem and a lot of fashion-lovers and -insiders celebrated her arrival yesterday afternoon. We spotted designers Bas Kosters, Mada van Gaans and Sjaak Hullekes amongst others and much more well dressed people in Dutch fashion.

Highlights 14th edition AIFW FW2011

We did it again! We survived Amsterdam International Fashion Week, with more than 27 shows, presentations and party’s. We shot front-stage, backstage, street-wear, shows and soirees and we loved every minute of it.

More than 20.000 people attended the AIFW this time – amongst them a large group of international bloggers – and we hope they enjoyed themselves as much as we did. We did see some strong collections, beautifully dressed people and a lot of fashion-enthusiasm. We won’t forget the couture-show of Jan Taminiau or the colorful parade of Bas Kosters full with energy and fantasy. And we were surprised by the collection of Marloes Blaas and the sweet romantic style of Sage & Ivy. Die-hards like Tony Cohen and Addy van den Krommenacker demonstrated us what a real professional catwalk-show looks like. And talking about show: you don’t have to tell Supertrash anything about that. This was glamor tot the max!

And let’s not forget Spijkers & Spijkers, Monique Collignon, the LAB-shows, Ready to Fish by Ilja Visser,  Huen Yeu, Velour, Elsien Gringhuis. And the Green Fashion Competition. This is how diverse and inventive Dutch fashion-design is.

The Best of All goodiebags – Amsterdam Fashion Week

January 30, 2011 by

The goodiebags we received this week were not very impressive, most of them were rather disappointing! We did receive better bags during earlier editions of AIFW. This time  there were a lot of spam items and the real goodies were lacking.

Apart from the Velour goodiebag and the Hunkemöller box we simple couldn’t give any goodiebag a high rate (too bad we didn’t get a goodiebag, or even een preview – at Supertrash this time).

To show you what a real goodiebag could look like, we gathered the best items of this Amsterdam Fashion Week in one ideal goodiebag.

It contains:

– Stylish toothbrush from Jordan

– Bodywash

– Hunkemoller garter

– Glasses from Bas Kosters

– Lounge music

– a bottle of water

– Rituals tea

– Vouchers of Hunkemoller ( 30 euro) and Specsavers/Spijkers & Spijkers (50 euro)

– T-shirt Velour

– Hand lotion Aveda

– Maybelline 24h lipstick

– Opi nailpolish

– Eyeshadow

But we dream of perfume, fashionable jewelry, a nice scarf, skincare-samples, champagne, perfumed candles ….

Check out who where there to watch them win in our Front Row gallery.

Tonight Iris van Herpen won three awards. She not only won the big Mercedes Benz Dutch Fashion Award, consisting of 25.000 euro. She also received the Dutch Incubator Award and the Accessory Award. We are so proud of this Dutch young designer talent and we’re sure she’s going to be big outside the Netherlands.

Congratulations Iris!!

Bas Kosters gave a spectacular show tonight. His collection, based on mutants, convinced the jury that he deserved the International Incubator Award.

Well done Bas!
