On Saturday eve Danish designer Line Markvardsen showed her new summer collection Epoque from her label Edith & Ella at the Amsterdam Fashion Week. A fun, sweet, trendy and wearable collection, which the audience really seemed to like.
The colors of the collection, inspired by the desert, changed from gold, beige and brown to pink, blue and red. Looks were pretty clean, like you’d expect from a Scandinavian designer. But there was still room left for fun details like large buttons, strings, polka dot prints, lines, cherry details and belts.
All models (with the best hairdo ever) looked comfortable in their loose fitting jumpsuits, chique blouses, sophisticated flared pants, playful shorts and cute little skirts. Themes ranged from seventies to seventies to sailor and everything in between.
Some of the items maybe felt a little too doll-ish, but there were many cute outfits Dutch women would love to wear.

Quoc Thang Catwalk Fashion Show AIFWFW2011
On Saturday evening Quoc Thang wowed us with his new menswear collection. It was well tailored, very wearable, cohesive and – unlike most other collections this week – it was a fall/winter collection.
Quoc introduced his brand new 3 x 3 x 3 concept based on the idea of a pair of pants, a top and a jacket. His designs, worn by models with wet faces and messy hair) told the story of an adventurer defying cold area’s in search of security and safety.
“It’s called A Place Over There (Een Plek Daarginds in Dutch) and – like all my collections so far – it has something to do with the vulnerability and transitory of life. My inspiration comes from conversations, exhibitions and every day things. I always write things down”, Quoc told us earlier.
The designs indeed looked like you could conquer any weather in them. Thick woolen coats, perfect pants tucked in shoes, and great jackets with hoodies and fur details. Shades ranged from multiple blues and greys to green (some of them slightly shiny).
For this collection Quoc Thang changed everything; his strategy, his philosophy and the way in which he built up the collection. And if you ask us, this turned out perfectly. Let’s hope this collection will lead to many new sales points for mister Thang. He sure deserves it.

Even men need to be powdered now and then. The backpackers and travellers that inspired Quoc Thang for his fall collection were symolised by shimmering powder and sandblown hair.
FRANK by Zeeman Backstage AIFW SS2012
The make up at the show of Frank was colorful, with bright colors like red and yellow at eyelids and nails, while lips were kept neutral. Take a look backstage.

It’s a small crew, but one cannot do without them during a fashionshow. Someone need to create order in the chaos of walking the catwalk, the tempo, the rythm. So meet Bas Andrea and Nathalie Haelermans, a duo with quite some experience in the world of fashion.
They were responsible for the choreography and direction of some of the fashionshows during AIFW, like Lichting 2011 and FRANK.

Zeeman / Frank Catwalk Fashion Show AIFWSS2012

Saterday afternoon the Zuiveringshal at the Amsterdam Fashion Week was filled with fashion people. Everyone was anxious to see the very first collection of this ‘new fashion label’ named Frank. Some people heard it was a mix between ready to wear and haute couture, others didn’t have a clue.
As the first looks came up on the runway we saw some very wearable designs. A shirt dress, a leather jacket, a pleated skirt, a trenchcoat, a pair of leather pants (with lots of zippers); easy to wear we would call it.
In between those items there were a few shiny evening dresses in shades like turquoise and ochre or gray and pink. And the last look of the collection was a bridal gown with the name Frank on it.
After that blue and yellow lights were projected on to the backdrop. Some items were highlighted with texts like “Now low priced” and we then started to get a feeling….
As the letters ZEEMAN appeared everyone reacted surprised.
Frank was actually ZEEMAN and nobody knew. The people from ZEEMAN kept everything a secret, only five people of the organization knew they were going to hold a show. What a surprise and what a guerrilla move! ZEEMAN rocks Amsterdam Fashion Week!
