Jil Sander Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2012

Shorts, that’s exactly men need in steamy hot Milan right now. Eehm, in black? Well, why not. Since everybody visting Milan is wearing the bold colors of this summer why not try them in black? Raf Simons started the colorblocking trend at Jil Sander, so he’ll be the first to end it. Or to offer something completely different. And that’s what he did this afternoon with his Jil Sander ss2012 collection.

To be honest, all that black soothes the eye. And Simons didn’t give up on color yet, he just added fragments or fragmented colors to the black. In cotton knits, printed stiff T-shirts, the petrol-colored jackets and with the snake-skin pouches attached as a small life-vest to the models’ body. It seemed leather accessories were a big, loud message too.

Although all the black was a surprise,  the collection didn’t have the impact his eye-popping colors had a year ago. Look around you and see what it did to the streets. And the big wave still has to come. Let’s take it positive: black matches beautifully with bright orange, yellow and pink. Black is still the new black, but differently.

Burberry Prorsum Catwalk Fashion Show SS2012

It has been a while since Burberry Prorsum designer Christopher Bailey presented such a strong collection. Less commercial and predictable, more sensitive and daring regarding the fabrics, ethnic theme, colors and prints. Of course it had this typical British/Bailey  details like the small pant with straight, narrow legs, the fitted jackets, pimped up brogues, the old fashioned cardigans and of course a large variety of coats. Those coats where the main part of the collection, but the accents made the difference: the collars in multi-colored patterns or fluffy fur. Funny and delightful were the (golf)shoes with thick cork-soles and bright colorful details, the knitted sweaters, the shirts and pants in African inspired patterns (the ones Mandela likes) or ikats and the colors which moved between navy-blue to mustard, yellow, burnt orange and beige.

It sure will let the sun come out on a rainy day.

Ermenegildo Zegna Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2012

What better way to start the Milan Fashion Week than with Ermenegildo Zegna. At it’s Milan based headquarters the fresh fashion crowd gathered for the presentation of Zegna’s new spring/summer collection.

The collection had a very airy vibe to it. Pale shades, light fabrics and smooth styling. Many of Zegna’s boys were dressed impeccably from head to toe; tight linen jacket, slightly cropped linen pants, a nice shirt, a small tie, a light colored pair of shoes and an impressive man-bag to top it off.

Some of the more relaxed looks contained shorts (right above the knee), relaxed sweaters, comfy leather flip flops and shiny parka’s all in faded shades of grey, sand, beige, lavender, taupe, bole and green.

The sportive jackets (one with a hood, the other with lots of pockets) and one knitted cardigan gave the collection a nice twist. The subtle two-tones on a suede jacket and a shirt fit the collection just fine. And the backpacks, classic sunnies, and chic scarfs were the perfect accessories.

There were no shocking surprises in the show, but Zegna did what so many men love about the brand; it presented cool, modern, comfortable looks. Clothes in which you can seal a major business deal as well as have some great family lunch.

When it comes to beauty your lips are the focus point this summer. Gucci, Lacoste, Jil Sander and Diane von Furstenberg all let their models’ lips stand out on the runway.

Judging from the looks of their catwalk beauties there’s no way to better accentuate your lips than by adding some color. Here are some tips on how to create the best looking lips:

  • Make sure they’re bright and fully colored.
  • Choose your lipstick color out of a range of hues varying from orange to deep pink.
  • Get a little bronzed; it will make your lips look even better
  • Mix ‘n match the color of your lipstick with the color of your nail polish
  • Keep the rest of your make-up sober & simple

Just study the images below and choose your favorite color.

Museum voor Moderne Kunst in Arnhem (MMKA)

One of the exposition areas of the Arnhem Mode Biënnale 2011 is the Museum of Modern Art (Museum voor Moderne Kunst). During this month you can go there to visit the Get Real / Real Self exposition. This expo, created by Joke Robaard en Giene Steenman, basically forms a spacial encyclopedia of clothes.

Like fashion editors Robaard and Steenman combined visual images, real clothes and words to present us their idea of the language of fashion… You’ll see a range of different coats and parkas, you’ll meet a mouse made of clothes, you bump into Brooke Shields and you’ll discover why fashion is about getting real.

Series of capes and parkas ranging from functional (a Hema rain coat or an old parka worn by Eskimos) to fashionable (a designer parka/coat)

From today on the Arnhem Mode Biënnale 2011 is officially open for anyone who’s curious to learn more about fashion and art. Yesterday the Dutch press learned all about the highlights of the fourth edition of this fashion event and coming days we will show you what the Arnhem Mode Biënnale has to offer.

Whether you’re a big fan of art, you’re dying to attend a fashion show or you just love to wander around in big exposition halls the Arnhem Mode Biennale has it all. You’ll find Amber in the Museum of Modern Art (Museum voor Moderne Kunst), the central exhibition space at the Akzo Nobel area and in many small(er) areas throughout the city of Arnhem.

Artistic Director JOFF

This year’s artistic director is JOFF (previous years Piet Paris was in charge). With Amber he wants to answer the question ‘ What is fashion?’ and during this month Amber will show everyone what fashion can be…

Amber has arrived!

Yesterday afternoon the Arnhem Mode Biennale 2011 was officially opened. So Amber finally has arrived in Arnhem and a large crowd of fashion-insiders and -lovers welcomed her at the Akzo-grounds.

In the morning the international press got a private viewing, followed by the opening ceremony and a very pleasant diner where guests were seated like a large family. One of the highlights was the lighting of the candle/installation of AF Vandevorst – the sleeping beauty will shine her light during the Biennale. Let’s see what surprise she has in mind for us.

Trend Report SS2011: Style & Lace

Graceful, feminine and perfect for summer; lace is a big trend this season. Dolce & Gabbana was all about lace and is one of the most popular collections. Also Chanel and Louis Vuitton showed us they know how to work the lace into your look.

We kind of expected the lace at fashion houses like Alberta Ferretti, Oscar de la Renta and Marchesa. Yet at Issa, Erdem and McQueen it was more of a surprise. Especially since Erdem and Issa were all about color. Not the regular white and black, but purple, green and red lace.

So this season it’s not only underwear that is beautifully embroidered; dresses, pants, skirts and tops may be embellished too. And besides lace clothing fashion accessories like shoes or clutches work really well in this fabric too.

Just take some inspiration from our photo gallery and have fun with this summer trend!
