The rain caused serious styling-problems during the second day of Amsterdam International Fashion Week. Some people tried to make something of their rainwear, others were more lucky and caught a dry moment.

So here’s our first streetwearpost at the second day of AIFW. And remember: we’re not the fashionpolice. We enjoy your own personal style.

Pauline van Dongen & Etranger LAB Catwalk Fashion Shows SS2012

Pauline van Dongen

Pauline van Dongen and Etranger were the last two designers presenting their LAB collections on Thursday. Pauline’s collection Kinetic Landscapes was perfect. Her dresses had unexpected shapes, lovely details and came in beautiful shades like orange, blue, grey and black. For this collection Pauline was inspired by the powerful force of water and air that both can make big changes to different landscapes. The shoes in this collection were made by Anna Korshun and the jewelry was designed by Nathalie Tappin.

Etranger

The new collection of designer Lifu Hsiao was inspired by an epic movie by David Lynch: ‘Twin Peaks: Fire walk with me’. Especially the styling and the themes of this movie inspired him to design some sexy flowy dresses and some cute babydoll versions. The shades, ranging from white to pastel and bright red all had a special shiny effect to them and were combined with sheer, black cape-like layers. Check out the gallery below.

Individuals Backstage at AIFW SS2012

The team went backstage at the Individuals show, the ‘commercial’ show of the Amfi. Make-up and hairteam worked hard to make the models look perfect and the clothes looked promising.

Which crew are you? M-PR at AIFW

M-PR is the official public relations-team of the Amsterdam International Fashion Week and therefore not to miss. Without this fashion & lifestyle press-office – located in Amsterdam –  the pressroom would be a mess and things wouldn’t work that smooth. They are also the constant factor behind one of the AIFW-partners Bart Maussen.

In front from left to right: Bianca Aslani, Jantien de Bruin, Isabel Fernandez, Bart Maussen, Aafke Geers and Ashna. In the back: Merel Hofstad and Jan Willem te Gussinklo Ohman.

Impressions of AIFW SS2012 Day 1

This was Day 1 of Amsterdam International Fashion Week  edition SS2012. Highlights – despite the rain – of yesterday were SIS by Spijkers & Spijkers and Tony Cohen, the openingssoiree and all the beautiful people.

Preview AIFW – Jan Boelo SS2012

It will be Jan Boelo’s first time to show during Amsterdam Fashion Week and from what he tells us, it will be a show to remember.

Long Nights
With just a few days left until his show Jan Boelo and his team are working late every day. “I’m finishing the collection with three other people and I’m getting some help from friends and family. It’s usually not until 2 or 3 a.m. that we stop working and go to bed. But I’m making sure I have one more relaxed day before the show, so I wouldn’t be all tired and stressed out on Sunday.”

Jan’s collection (it’s the second collection he has made) will exist of men- and womenswear. “The biggest part will be womenswear, but there’s a small menswear section as well. All together we will present about 26 looks.”

Inspiration
“Those looks are inspired by the late seventies. It’s all about the rise & fall of punk and glam rock. There will be a lot of leather and chains. Almost anything in the collection will be shiny. The fit will be tight, but there are loose pants too and I stressed some of the shoulders. It will feel like Alexis herself (from Dynasty) walks into the room.”

Fabrics
“We got a special kind of denim from Italy and we had our leather custom made in an Italian factory. I personally went there this spring to make a selection of the leather I wanted to use.”

Rock ’n Roll
“Since I’m a big Rock ’n Roll fan; I translated this to the collection. Songs from bands like The Sex Pistols and Patti Smith inspired me. The soundtrack of the show is going to be very rock ’n roll too. It will be a pretty fierce mix, made by Tim Holland.”

Jan has already convinced Dutch rock singer/actress Ellen ten Damme of his talent (she wore his clothes to several official events) so we’re very curious to see what everyone else thinks of his designs.

Jan Boelo will show his collection on Sunday 17 July at 3 p.m.

Tony Cohen Backstage AIFW 2012

Take a peek backstage at the preparations before the Tony Cohen-show. Model Kim Feenstra got photographed together with her fans and models striked their pose in their Cohen-outfits.

Frontrow at Tony Cohen

Tony Cohen didn’t disappoint his audience. He gave a glamorous show with lots of light, feminine clothes. The frontrow was filled with beautifully dressed people who made something of their outfit and enjoyed the wonderful orchids in their goodiebags.

Getting dressed for AIFW SS2012

The rain didn’t stop visitors of the Amsterdam International Fashion Week openingssoiree dressing up for the party. We saw some great outfits passing by. Well done people, hopefully you will do the same tomorrow!

Catwalk Fashion Show SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers SS2012

Tonight the Amsterdam Fashion Week kicked off with the SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers (their second line) fashion show. A great start of a week full of fashion!

Designers Truus and Riet Spijkers presented a fun, sunny collection which turned a big smile on our faces. They were inspired by the twenties and Olympic swimmer Zus Braun in particular. The swim details were visible through fun play/bathing suits and old skool bathing caps.

SIS was divided in day wear and evening wear and overall felt very playful and optimistic. Shades of rose, red, pistachio, amber and nautical blue were used in combination with white and black. The models looked feminine in jumpsuits, shorts, jeans skirts (with large pockets) and casual suit jackets.

Stripes were used in every possible way, a zig zag print came by and a ‘vintage’ fashion illustration formed the print on some of the SIS-tops. Multi-colored belts, sunny shades and cane hats added just the right feeling to some of the looks. Overall it was just a very joyful and wearable collection, exactly what a second line should be.
