Trends ss2010: Eyecatching sportswear

Next spring will be great fun for the sporty types. A number of brands introduced some remarkable sportswear. Eyecatching were the pieces Asish showed during London Fashion Week. Most of the sportswear he came up with was sequined from the bottom to the top. What a great way to distract your opponents at the footballfield! The sequins formed the image of a football and that of Mona Lisa. The Nike slogan ‘Just do it’ also appeared  in sequins. At the fashion show for Hermès the runway was changed into a tenniscourt. The models wore classic sportswear in blue or red with white lines. Those lines seemed to be the new element in sportswear since Marc Jacobs, Bottega Veneta and Lacoste used them too. Alexander Wang showed some great (‘timeless’, as he calls it himself) sportswear. His grey sweater with brown suede shoulders looked refreshing. Most designers completed their looks with a sporty headband or a cap. Playing sports was never this much fun! (Tess van Daelen)

Due to the beautiful after summer-weather in Milan (and maybe the financial crisis) a lot of people choose the bike as their favorite tool to move from one fashionshow to the other. Dressed from head to toe in designerwear, with high heels, a short dress – there are no limits.

It’s Christopher Kane’s new task to bring life back into Versus, the second line of the Versace-house which was hot in the nineties. The models were being placed on plinths to display the 25 wool, lace, and laser-cut neoprene dresses Kane has designed for his debut.  Donatella Versace herself was walking around looking over the group of black, mushroom, and sizzling red dresses. One dress was detailed with slashes held together with pink, red, and green aluminum safety pins—a reinvention of the dress that made  Elizabeth Hurley famous in 1994.

Moschino Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010

Rosella Jardini opened her SS2010 show for Moschino with a short version of a Chanel-looking suit. This outfit was combined with black tights, golden shoes and earrings. The look was completed with a scarf on top of the model’s head, some bangles and a bag, all in the shape of a heart. With this first look the fashion was set for a diverse and mixed collection. There were puffy dresses and skirts with prints of hearts, flowers and cherries. A jacket was made of golden chains, held together by a black leather body. One model showed a black dress on which the lines of a surreal coat were stitched in white. There were some playful coats with bows and layering. The models wore gold accessories like belts decorated with tassels or necklaces with deep red cherries. To the end the clothes became even more mixed when prints were combined in several patchwork looks. Mix ‘n Match at Moshino… (Tess van Daelen)

Proenza Schouler Catwalk Fashion Show SS10

They  wanted something young and fresh, so the guys from Proenza Schouler looked to surfing and skating, the things they grew up on. They took the notion of track jackets wrapped around waists and built those elements right into tank dresses and shirtdresses, and they teamed a pair of color-blocked track pants with a great tailored jacket for a sporty-chic effect. It’s the sort of nonchalant look a lot of designers are looking for,  and these guys nailed it perfectly.  For evening, the silhouette was short, short, short. A few of the cocktail numbers featured the bra-cup bodies the duo has made their signature, mixed with tiers of micro ruffles. Other dresses floated away from the body.  The models wore wedge-heel woven sandals as colorful as the clothes.
