Olaf Hussein SS2015 Amsterdam Fashion Week

For the very first time designer Olaf Hussein (Hussein Yussuf) presented his namesake denim label during the opening night of Amsterdam Fashion Week. He showed a strong, consistent selection of twelve tough menswear looks inspired by de Mod period, end fifties. Sweaters, shirts, coats and – naturally – a bunch of denim formed the base of his sharp cut line. All produced with a modern eye for detail, which came through in drawstring stitches and seams sealing, but also in the lining of T-shirts and the collars of the shirts. Nothing too extraordinary at first sight, but the more impressive once you took a closer look. Classic with a modern touch. A modern touch that was technologically translated via show partner Vodafone too, since all clothes could be bought online immediately after the fashion show. We can only cheer for Olaf’s straightforward strategy, cause once we see something we like, we need it in our wardrobes a.s.a.p.!

Claes Iversen SS2015 Amsterdam Fashion Week

Designer Claes Iversen had the honour of opening this edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week (AFW). Or should we say the AFW had the honour? On Thursday night he presented his SS2015 collection; selection of his couture creations combined with designs from his brand new (more affordable) prêt-à-portercollection ‘II by Claes Iversen’. Clothes that still carried his signature; his love for couture and craftsmanship plus a lot of eye for detail. Yet clothes that brought a totally different vibe with them. Practical pieces that were more about wearability and fitting in with the rest of a woman’s wardrobe, other than being complete head turners on their own. Claes introduced sweat shirts (who would have thought?) decorated by crystals and shorts, shirt dresses and trench coats, pleated pants and suit jackets. Basically a complete wardrobe with a strong focus on tailoring, to take you from a casual shopping spree to a fancy dinner. Overall the clothes were clean, almost minimalistic. Yet it wouldn’t have been a true Claes show without the embroidered flowers, the rich fabrics and the ultra elegant silhouettes. Not to forget his signature pleating, draping and folding. Claes’ seahorse print, some of his airy knits and his color palette of nudes, sands and whites alternated by touches of green and yellow definitely screamed summer. A chic summer we can’t wait for to happen. Two by Claes Iversen, we’ll take one of each piece please!

Some seventies, a few fantasy worlds and quite a bunch of technologically produced graphic prints hit the streets the previous editions of fashion week. The print variations seemed endless, the color mostly used blue and shades or purple. Now this trend doesn’t really seem to be for the subtle style lovers; fully dressed in busy prints is the way to go according to our streetstyle heroes. Ralph Lauren, DvF, Edun, BcBg Azria and Zimmerman already showed you how it’s done on the runway. Now you need to go and try this trend for yourself. Go graphic!

Maison Martin Margiela, Gianvitto Rossi, Fendi, Sophia Webster, Rag & Bone, Pierre Hardy and Jimmy Choo have some strong ones in their collections. Now you might be thinking.. What can we say, a good hat not only makes a perfect outfit, but also a beautiful picture. No wonder so many mad hatters visit fashion week every season. From felt to straw, square shaped, flappy or asymmetrical, from sober to brightly colored; a light weight hat is your go to accessory this summer. Great for that mysterious look, nice little extra SPF and completely on trend. Right Marni, Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, DKNY, Acne Studios and Olympia Le-Tan? Our best bet: the white Panama. Hats off for this stylish S/S trend!

Oh animal print, we just can’t get enough of you. We might have said everything there is to say. The past few decades we have adored you more than you know of. We’ve ditched you and fallen back in love with you for so many times. And still it’s not yet over. This summer too we’re preparing to rock you like no other trend. We’ll bring the slightly updated version of you back into our closets. Sure leopard, our love, you’re our favorite this time around too. Yet we’re using you as a subtle little extra. On a pair of shoes, a shoulder bag, a silly hat. New variations come in crazy animal prints taking pretty literal. Like on that red baboon dress we shot, or the cock printed coat Mira rocks in one of our pictures. The print possibilities are endless, you’re such a wild thing!

Trend Report SS2014: All Exposed

Baring the midriff; it might seem kinda scary at first, but once you hop on this bandwagon, it’s such fun! Supermodels have been widely embracing this trend for seasons now and slowly but surely the rest of us are following. Just an inch of bare skin is enough to join in on the fun. But if you dare, go and bare it all. Show off those abs, expose! Not too body confident? Work the safer version of this trend; pairing a high waisted skirt with a crop top, that perfectly overlay each other or work with some sheerness for that extra chic effect. Jeans and crop tops make the ultimate nineties attire, while a pencil skirt and matching crop make up for some flawless eveningwear. Just look at how Christine Centenera, Mira Duma and Carine Roitfeld are sporting this trend, that just doesn’t seems to fade.

FASHIONCLASH Festival 2014, this was day 1

There are those fashion lovers that stick to black their entire life. And there are fully white attire fanatics around just as well. But for everyone else the good old black & white is the safest go to color combination. No they might not even be called colors, but the styling options they provide are never ending nonetheless. Just take a look at our streetstyle gallery and tell us there’s not a look you’d love to wear yourself. Well? Isn’t the black and white trend a all time favorite that is just for everyone. You might not like prints, you could be totally against wearing dresses, perhaps high heels are you’re worst enemy, but the monochrome look you can’t resist. Work it with a little sixties vibe this season and look at fashion luminaries Alexander Wang, Victoria Beckham, Rodarte and Celine for inspiration.
