The DKNY-collection was all the way about a New York vibe. From a rolled-down jumpsuit tied around the waist with a silk button-up to a coated-cotton blazer paired with distressed denim Bermuda shorts. Other items made an impact, too. Leather-trim circle skirts cut from spongy coated mesh, oversize color-blocked car coats, and neoprene-jersey racer back gowns balanced femininity with urban athleticism.
Meanwhile, accessories including baseball caps, leather knapsacks, fanny packs, and wedge sneakers played a key role in putting the NY-vibe back.

Diane von Furstenberg presented a strong collection full of pretty colors, bold prints and a hefty dose of embellishment.
Von Furstenberg, working with creative director Yvan Mispelaere, layered several dresses over pants, including a draped one-shoulder version with trousers in the same colorful print, and a linear navy halter dress over fluid orange pants. Adornment abounded: She decked out a suit and a top in little metal spheres, which she also piled onto her statement-making heels. Draped blouses with billowing sleeves and palazzo pants added to the collection’s glamour.

It seems Victoria Beckham has decided she wanted to to advance her collection. She accomplished this smartly for spring, most notably by adding chic, tailored separates. From a minimalist baseline, she worked interesting details into coats and jackets, slim pants and crisp shirts, the perfect ease of their combinations showing the hand of Beckham’s new stylist, Joe McKenna.
Yet Beckham still loves a great dress. She also incorporated feminine touches via lingerie details — bra tops and straps peeking out from under dresses — and various types of lace.
Alexander Wang Catwalk Fashion Show New York SS2013

The glow in the dark-effect on the ivory clothes of Alexander Wang was a cool ending to his ss2013 presentation. The impression left after a very fast show was one of sharp, minimalist sport. There were boxy “hockey jerseys” worn over tailored shorts — skinny and Bermuda styles — and some of the models wore lacquered porcelain helmets. Wang rarely strayed from black and white, and when he did, it was a few notes of beige leather and gray. The silhouette was spare and crisp, in stark cotton and exotics, such as snakeskin.
Trend Report Fall/Winter 2012/2013: East meets West

With markets in the East still growing many designers wisely looked to the far East for inspiration. Once more they were inspired by the oriental prints, the hand techniques and the lively colors. And we couldn’t blame them! The far east has so much to offer it’s like a never ending source of inspiration.
Silky fabrics done in shades of black, red and gold (Temperley London, Dries van Noten, Peter Pilotto) created the ultimate Eastern feeling. As kimono sleeves (Zac Posen) and asymmetrical cross over tops (Proenza Schouler), obi belts and small platform shoes stressed to the oriental style.
Some designers went all the way and even adjusted their models’ hair and make up to the Eastern style. But it’s when you mix it with Western urban influences that the East really can make a statement.
Tony Cohen Amsterdam Catwalk Fashion Show SS2013
Tony Cohen’s show was a 24/7 adventure. As the sun came up his first model came up wearing an orange shaded ensemble, including a pleated cotton maxi skirt and a leather biker jacket. After a few more looks in earthy tones, the color palette changed into nude, grey and later on black and white. Then Tony introduced a series of the brightest neon dresses, which gracefully moved at the pace of the models’ walk. After a short pause it was time for the evening wear to shine. As a full moon shined on the runway models appeared sporting glittery, asymmetrical pieces for a night out in style. Flared pants were combined with 70’s wedge shoes. Duo colored draped dresses, like we saw last season at Tony Cohen, made the models look elegant and party proof. Long evening dresses were vamped up by airy trains following the models in the air, throughout the night.

Allan Vos
Sexy, muscled men with smoky eyes walked today’s Allan Vos LAB show. Designs were tough and feminine at the same time. The show started with a tight fitting blue suit with black details and tiny yellow beads. He carried a matching handbag with a big A on it, like there were many more in the collection. What followed were extremely wide and extremely tight pants. The wide ones were pleated and seen from certain angles looked like skirts. The leggings were worn with boxers over it, highlighting the models crotch area. Leather jackets gave the collection a tough touch, while fur coats and tight tank tops (again with the letter A on it) had the opposite effect. Several variations of the white shirt (including one at floor length) looked interesting and a well tailored black jacket with red lining could just become the best sold item of the show.
Nata Ryzh
With her Amsterdam fashion week debut (Lola’s dream) today Natallya Ryzhykava’s showed graceful, elegant and colorful dresses. She presented a selection of beautiful designs done in the most gorgeous summer shades (turquoise, lavender, light yellow and salmon pink) made out of delicate silks. Girls looked flirty and fun in knee length draped dresses and matching clutches decorated with orchid and iris prints which gave the collection a ’70 touch. One of our favorite collections this week!
Gestuz Amsterdam Catwalk Fashion Show SS2013

When thinking of summer, most people think of light, airy fabrics and a soft or cheerful color palette. But not Arina Woron, designer of Danish label Gestuz. Her perfect summerlook is feminine and romantic but with a rock ‘n roll twist. “The collection is about a beautiful rose garden on a hot summer day, very romantic. Yet we always keep the toughness in every collection.”
And it showed. The Gestuz woman dresses sexy but in a edgy way. We saw some black, asymmetrical dresses with a slit or open back paired with rough combat boots. As well as nude body hugging dresses, soft knitted jumpers, shorts and skirts with zippers in the front. The rock ‘n roll was more visible in the use of black, denim revised with studs and of course lots of leather, which seems a key ingredient in every collection. The roses were reflected in the different shades of red and pink used in several graphic prints.
Do we want to be this Gestuz women? Well, we love the burgundy red and leather details. And a bit of rock ‘n roll in the summer is maybe not such a bad idea at all.

Winde Rienstra
Standing here for the fourth time, Winde Rienstra is not a new face anymore at Amsterdam fashion week. She’s slowly putting herself out there as one of the new great talents showing here. And so far, she’s doing a good job.
Rienstra’s work is known for the handcraft, strong details, graphic shapes and the fact that she’s not afraid to experiment with several and sometimes complicated materials. And that’s what she showed us again today. The show started with a video portraying the different materials she worked with for this collection in a kaleidoscopic way. We saw sequins, silk, wool, and even pieces of Lego. Materials with totally different characters, but Rienstra knows how to make them work together and how they can intensify each other. Soft and hard reunites effortlessly.
We saw some long, silk dresses in soft colors like white, pale blue and salmon combined with wooden keen-edged constructions and revised with embroidered details. A faux fur skirt had knitted flowers on both sides. And the shoes, made of Lego that made the models cradle sometimes, screamed structure.
Although her designs may not always be easy or comfortable to wear, it was a nice collection. Rienstra knows what she’s best in, but is not afraid to renew herself. And that’s what we like about her.

Marije de Haan
Uncommon runway models walked in this afternoon’s Marije de Haan fashion show. Bearded, tattooed, stout, short and old guys played the part of Marije de Haan’s sailor men. They sported sailor underwear, carried bottles of beer in leather sleeves in their hands and did in fact appear slightly drunk.
Marije created striped ‘underwear’ shorts, checked buttoned tops and what appeared to be two combinations between a cape and a blouse. Dutch flag details were visible on a leather-ish/fringed, three colored jacket, a knitted scarf and a top with a flag attached to it. One of the guys even wore a line of dirty, striped and checked red – white – blue flags around his neck.
Two tough bearded guys were dressed in the most adorable designs; one nude colored lace ensemble and a heart printed pair of pj’s. We can already picture them strolling around in the harbor on their Palladium boots on a Sunday morning.
“That can half up the sails that can swallow the moon. And he drinks, and he drinks, and he drinks once again.”
Jan Boelo Amsterdam Catwalk Fashion Show SS2013

Once again Jan Boelo’s show was fully booked tonight. Several Dutch celebs came to support the 24-year old designer, who gave his first evening show. The Boelo spectacle started with a backdrop video in which transsexual model Valentijn de Hingh vandalized a car, which lit on fire a few minutes later. The fire remained a backdrop during the rest of the show in which Jan Boelo’s military team returned home after battle.
His female models wore sexy shiny dresses, T-shirts with shoulder pads, tight statement jackets and figure accentuating pencil skirts. The guys sported sleeveless leather jackets, fully buttoned blouses, shiny shorts and hand knitted sweaters.
To make the dark, leather looks even heavier Jan added his signature chains, personalized Jan Boelo medals, eye-catching guys’ earrings, military caps and a heavy metal soundtrack that almost blew up the AFW-speakers. Valentijn Hingh closed the show and after all models appeared on stage Jan Boelo went out with a bang.
