Trend Report SS2011: in his shirt

Wearing a men’s shirt can be even sexier than wearing the perfect LBD. So, when designers like Dries van Noten, Stella McCartney and Paul Smith worked the men’s shirt into their summer collections they made a smart move.

A men’s shirt doesn’t need any extra’s; it speaks for itself. Combined with a pair of pleated trousers or some cool jeans the shirt looks effortless chic. Take the ones we saw at Michael Kors, Margiela and Lacoste; could a woman look any more elegant in such basic pieces?

So leave your tailored, ruffled, printed blouses at home girls. The men’s shirt is all the rage these days….

Trend Report SS2011: the new denim

Wearing denim to a cocktail event might have been a no go for years, now you can look as chic in your jeans as you will in your LBD. ‘Cause the new denim is more sophisticated and classy then ever. Derek Lam, Stella McCartney and Dries van Noten showed some perfect examples of that. No skinny jeans there, but long, wide legged pants (and denim jackets, skirts, dresses and pants too!) So whatever event your attending; in this new denim you’ll look fabulous 7 days a week.

Apart from the ‘chic denim’ at Balmain we saw some rough looking examples for the punk/rock ‘n roll ladies as well. Yet we suppose wearing it classic like McCartney is the way to go.

Trend Report SS2011: Rock & Punk

Either you love it or you hate, but the punk look sure is a trend this summer. Think: short cut hair, lots of black, strong shoulders and metallic accents. Balenciaga, Balmain and Burberry all worked the Rock ‘n Roll/Punk trend on their catwalks. Their models looking fierce and a little boy-ish at times.

At Jean Paul Gaultier the models wore enormous pieces of metallic jewelry, at Burberry and Balmain spikes gave the looks some extra edge. Riccardo Tisci mixed Gothic and punk by presenting sheer black designs with lots op zippers.

If you’re the girly type of woman you might wanna pass on this trend. Yet for the ones who like it rough there’s plenty of rock ‘n roll fashion to choose from.

Here are some examples:

Trend Report SS2011: Bikini Proof

Ok, maybe you’re still working on your perfect bikini body. But hey, that doesn’t mean you cannot take a look at the new swimwear trends. Besides having the perfect bikini/swimsuit in mind, might be an extra motivation to reach your summer proof body.

And when it comes to this year’s swimwear there’s more than enough to choose from. A new trend seems to be the blending of day wear and swimwear. Cause some swimsuits (like the woolen ones at Michael Kors) look more like tops and bikini’s are becoming part of an outfit.

At Blugirl, Barbara Bui, Tommy Hilfiger, Iceberg and Marc Jacobs swimsuits and bikini’s were mixed and matched with daywear pieces. (So it’s actually cool if your blouse reveals just a small part of your bikini top.)

Luxurious bathing suits are still hot too. Especially the ones with the sexy cutouts. Whether they’re meant to stroll around or actually hit the water is not sure, but you’ll definitely look damn sexy!

Trend Report SS2011: Ballerina Chic

The movie Black Swan was a major succes. Not only in the cinemas, but on the catwalk too. All of a sudden the ballerina look was everywhere. At Chanel sheer skirts (just over the knee) were paired with tight bodies in shades of black and light pink. At Celine we saw nude-colored, ultra thin, pleated skirts and tops. Zac Posen combined lace and feathers in a ballerina kind of way. Erdem was all about the ballet shoes and Jason Wu and Oscar de la Renta showed us some big (feather) skirts.

All looks in which you could hit a ballet class in style, yet also outfits to be worn on a night out. Just practice some more on your body movements and… en pointe!

Beauty Trends FW2010: Au naturel

We’ve seen the dark eyes, the red lips, the colorful & the extreme make-up. Yet another big trend that is quite the opposite of that all is the natural look.

At Jil Sander, CNC, Vanessa Bruno, Byblos and Diesel the au naturel look was spotted. Light pink lips, no blush, no mascara, nothing to distract you from the beautiful clothes that came down the runway. The models all worked their most natural look, with a little help from the make-up artists of course.

2010 has almost come to and end. But we won’t celebrate the new year until we’ve looked back on a fantastic year of fashion. We’ve collected the news on the most memorable collaborations, upcoming models and other fashion facts you must not forget.

We made a top of 40 items. Earlier we presented news facts 1 to 25 and here are facts 26 to 30:

26. Double Denim

It was a fashion no-go for years, but in 2010 double denim all of a sudden was cool again. Chloe, D&G and Ralph Lauren set the trend and we hit the stores to buy ourselves a denim shirt to go with our favorite jeans.

27. Christopher Kane’s menswear

At the end of this year Christopher Kane launched his first menswear line. He came up with tees, suit jackets, leather shorts, knitted sweaters and cardigans, sold at Dover Street Market, London.

28. The Year of Phoebe Philo (head designer at Céline)

Since Phoebe Philo became the head designer at Céline, two years ago, she managed to turn the French ready to wear brand into one of the world’s most sought-after luxury labels. She has become one of the most influential movers and shakers in modern ready to wear and her approach to design has already had a huge impact on the way women dress. Celebs like Katie Holmes, Victoria Beckham and Leighton Meester are a big fan of her work. And it came as no surprise Phoebe (a.k.a. the Queen of the New Minimalism) won the title Designer of the Year 2010 at the British Fashion Awards in London.

29. Alberta Ferretti & Emma Watson

The Italian designer and the British actress (who cut her hair very short this year) teamed up to design an organic clothing line.

30. Olsen Twins expand The Row

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are one of the rare examples of celebrities turned succesful designers. Their clothing lines The Row, Elizabeth and James and Olsenboye are doing pretty well and therefore the sisters are expanding. Next fall the brand will have shoes and bags too.

2010 has almost come to and end. But we won’t celebrate the new year until we’ve looked back on a fantastic year of fashion. We’ve collected news on the most memorable collaborations, trends, upcoming models and other fashion facts you must not forget.

We made a top of 40 items. Earlier we presented news facts 1 to 10 and here are the next five highlights:

11. Miranda Kerr preggers

Many Victoria’s Secret angels were having babies this year. One of them is Miranda Kerr who got married to Orlando Bloom only a month after their engagement. She also posed pregnant & naked for W magazine.

12. Karl Lagerfeld as busy as ever

In September Karl Lagerfeld canceled his Karl Lagerfeld fashion show during the Paris Fashion Week stating he didn’t want to do catwalk collections for the brand anymore. Soon after that he announced his new collaboration with Macy’s. And in the meantime he shot the Pirelli calender for 2011, showing his favorite models as Greek goddesses. Never a dull moment with Karl Lagerfeld.

13. Roberto Cavalli & Kenzo: 40 years

Both Roberto Cavalli (29-09) and Kenzo (05-10) both celebrated their forty years in the fashion industry. Antonio Marras held a great tribute show in Paris in which the best of forty years of Kenzo was brought together. Tommy Hilfiger celebrated 25 years of the all American brand and Marc Jacobs’ brand turned 10. Hurray!

14. Tom Ford is back

This year Tom Ford made his long awaited comeback. And he did so in a very smart way. He hired Beyonce and Julianne Moore (among others) as models, presented his collection for a small audience and allowed nobody but Terry Richardson to take pictures. It made up for a great buzz on the collection, the models and the guests. Tom Ford also guest edited French Vogue (he put Dutch model Daphne Groeneveld on the cover) and (after A Single Man) has plans for a second movie.

15. Trend: leather for summer

Wearing leather was a big trend during the summer of 2010. With Chloe’s and Celine’s collections as inspiration leather shorts, skirts en tees were mixed and matched into our wardrobes. All of a sudden it became clear leather is no longer only reserved for winter.

Trend Report: Cold Feet

December 10, 2010 by

As strange as it sounds, many designer (Christopher Kane, Marni, Versace) presented shoes with holes in their winter collection. We saw high heels with cutouts, boots with peep-toes or open heels and shoes with multiple holes in them.

They might look sexy, they’re not very practical when it’s freezing outside. And we don’t wanna get cold feet. Luckily for us the designers presented a solution for that too. Wear your open shoes with socks and tights. They’ll keep you warm and look trendy as well.

Need advice on what socks to wear?

There are some great open shoes for sale this winter, yet with just a pair of thin tights you won’t make it through the day. Luckily for you we found the answer to cold feet. Just put on a thick pair of (colorful) socks and you’re not only staying warm but you look very trendy as well.

On the runway socks were presented in every possible color and print. Oscar de la Renta, Anna Sui and Vivienne Westwood opted for crazy prints while G-Star and Givenchy chose brights colors. And for a true Socks Spectacle just take a look at the photos of the Jean Paul Gaultier show…. Wow!

This winter you can wear your peep-toe shoes and stay warm at the same time.
