Streetstyle Trend: Rise of the Oversize

Designers weren´t exactly thrifty with their fabrics this season. Huge, oversize pieces were presented onto the runway and made their way into the streets. Loose sweaters, coats and pants were all true streetstyle hits.
Now don´t think the ladies sporting this trend were size XXL themselves. No, the tiniest frames were hidden from under those creations. Skinny legs popped up from under those big coats and waists were accentuated in the wide legged pants.
Looking larger than life was never this cool. Plus, you´re chances of getting noticed in the streets are.. tripled!

Forget those New York Yankees ones; the most popular caps of this season were made by top designers. Kenzo not only scored a bit hit with it’s tiger jumpers; their caps brought in a big bulk of cash as well. But during fashion week you couldn’t go wrong with one of these Chanel and Burberry caps either. Want to start easy on this sportive trend? Pick a simple black leather one that matches well with just about any look. Perfect for covering up your bad hair day and perhaps even hide that short night of sleep. Add a pair of slick sunnies and you’ll look as streetwise as they get.

We spotted models, bloggers, editors, photographers and designers in the color that seems to look good on everyone and anyone. One day without shaving is not enough to join the latest streetstyle trend. You have to grow a beard…for weeks! Forget those perfect and all too clean babyfaces; without a beard you´re only half a man (just kiddin´)! Take some inspiration from these streetstyle wonders who, whether slouchy or slick, sported their heavy beards with an outfit to match. Let´s just hope your boss will approve…

Streetstyle Icon: Caroline Issa

A few years ago nobody really knew who she was, except for the fact that this modest woman always looked stunning. Nowadays, Caroline Issa, publisher and fashion director at Tank magazine and Becauselondon, is everywhere. You spot her a thousand times on many blogs and websites, fashion lovers adore her style and all the designers want her front row. In a short amount of time this British lady (but her mother is half Chinese, her father half Lebanese- half Iranian) developed herself as a true streetstyle favorite, just like she is to us. Come to think that Caroline once studied entrepreneurship and strategy, far far away from anything fashion.

So what about her style? She’s no Anna Dello Russo or Lady Gaga. Caroline’s style is way more sophisticated and humble, but still always strong and elegant. She easily manages it to look feminine and sexy without overdressing and she perfectly knows how to translate trends into her own style. She often pairs here outfits with some edgy shades and her famous red lips.  But what she does share with the first named ladies is that she can wear anything, and without losing her own characteristic style. Just take a look…

Christine Centenera, editor for Harper’s Bazaar Australia, always looks unique and flawless and therefore is one of our favorite streetstyle it-girls. She looks classy, but makes sure she adds a nice surprising touch to her looks. She has a cute face and still has some kind of rawness about her. She plays with volume, color and wears the greatest show stopping coats. This lady knows how to unify elegance and edge. No wonder the fashion paparazzi love her so much!

Christine likes anything with a stud on it, is crazy for metal details and claims she can not walk in flat shoes. She loves brands like Therese Rawsthorne and Pierry Hardy, yet you might just as easy spot her in a cool creation of an upcoming Australian designer. ’cause besides writing for Harper’s Bazaar this 30 year old streetstyle sensation also advices young upcoming designers (she even consulted Kanye West for his first collection) and wears their designs on a regular basis.

She is a former model, but Julia Sarr Jamois is best known for her personal style. As a fashion editor at Wonderland magazine she visits the international fashion weeks and is the prime target for streetstyle photogs.

Julia mixes remarkable, colorful fashion pieces with funky sunglasses. Combined with her original hairstyle she often creates an outstanding, almost cartoonesk appearance for herself. Julia sets trends, dares to experiment and always stays true to her own quirky style.

No wonder this half Senegalese half French beauty was named one of the 100 most stylish people by US Vogue and is a true hit on many streetstyle blogs like Jak & Jil, Style.com, The Sartorialist and, from now on, Tean Peter Stigter too!

Streetstyle Trend Report 2011: Stunning Studs

If you ask us, studs and leather are the best combination of things since macaroni and cheese. And we’re not the only ones. Leather and studs have been a big hit for decennia. You can spot them anywhere in the streets. It doesn’t even have to be fashion week.

Yet if you wanna see some true treasure examples you’ll have to go to Milan, London, Paris and New York. During the latest fashion season we’ve seen the tough trend popping up everywhere. We saw some cool examples on shoes, bags and leather jackets worn by women as well as men.

Anna dello Russo wore her studded leather Versace for H&M dress as one of the first in the world. And since that collection has just been launched, we expect the trend only to get bigger.

In bloggerland there’s even a serious trend of Do It Yourself studded fashion items. So next season we’re sure going to be seeing many more studded styles on the streets.
