Non by Kim Catwalk Fashion Show SS10
Inventorum Natura is the title of NON by Kim’s spring summer collection 2010. The third collection of Kim Bakker takes us to the realm of flesh eating plants. Brrr. She got inspired by the tantalizing tragedy of the victim that – once caught in the sweet sticky body – is destined to be digested. The collection reflects parts of this world, the agthered constructions and wired seams give the garments an organic and clean cut feel. A balance is created between smooth lightweight and textured materials which give the fluid layered silhouettes a feeling of motion.

You know, the seasonal event on the eve of Amsterdam Fashion Week, where young Dutch fashion talents show their newest collections. The young designers at Prelude brought a unanimous message. Long-lasting designs, with a focus on shape and excelling with simplicity, showed a new generation of designers that prefers high quality to short-term fashions
In the courtyard of hotel The Grand, Mattijs van Bergen was first to show his collection for spring/summer 2010. The designer, who is well-known for his elegant plissé dresses, chose to focus on shape. There were dresses like oversized shirts, outfits with big shoulders and couture-like jackets. Pleated elements were subtly converted in necklaces, blouses and lapels and more striking in beautiful pink, red and purple evening dresses. Outstanding pieces looked like waterfalls because of the draped fabrics. The collection felt relaxed and more wearable without lacking the elegant style in which Mattijs excels.

You know, the seasonal event on the eve of Amsterdam Fashion Week, where young Dutch fashion talents show their newest collections. The young designers at Prelude brought a unanimous message. In the hotel lobby of The Grand Catta Donkersloot presented her collection, which was inspired by poppy flowers and summer birds. The feeling of a warm and romantic summer resulted in graceful ribbon-covered dresses, some decorated with bird prints. The models were draped at the lobby furniture, looking like taken away by a sunny day dream.
Inside one of the hotel’s most impressive rooms, the fashion show by Sjaak Hullekes took place. The collection covered preppy outfits with Riviera-like pieces: shorts, chinos, blazers and polo shirts. Accessories and other small details were both surprising and delicate. Small leather belts covered shirts, very short shorts had fringes at the legs and male models wore bow ballerinas. ‘I want to create a new androgyny in fashion,’ explained Hullekes after the presentation. ‘With small I want to give a new impulse to classic men’s fashion.’ The items and colour palet – bright pink, beige and brown – had a vintage look. ‘My menswear has a vintage edge, but when you come closer you’ll see the renewing materials and high quality’, Hullekes concludes.

In the wedding chamber we experienced the presentation of Conny Groenewegen’s spring collection. It was a true experience, instead of models ballet dancers showed some disproportional outfits in old blue and green. They looked like wide pyjamas and oversized shirts people wear at home. The dancer’s moves showed how clothes can be comfortable and graceful at the same time.
On the catwalk in the courtyard the show continued. There were more asymmetrical pieces, made of ingeniously woven, knitted and perforated materials. Conny too puts focus on shape and volume. Draped satins held together by buttons, ribbons or zippers looked both happy and elegant. A closer look to the used materials, shows the outstanding craftsmanship of this promising designer.

Antoine Peters Catwalk Fashion Show SS2010
With his collection ‘Turn your frown upside down’ Antoine Peters made a serious effort to make the fashion audience smile. And he succeeded, not only because the models looked funny with their clown-noses but also because of the collection full of smileys in graphics, fabrics, details and construction. The bright colors made us happy too. Beside the fun-theme, the collection looked rather grown up with T-shaped dresses and tunics. Special of the season is a shawl produced in collaboration with Moooi, the accessory will be available only next month in the Moooi Gallery in Amsterdam. Recently Antoine Peters was in the picture because of the costumes he designed for the latest edition of Arnhem Mode Biennale and his appearance in the book ‘100 new Fashion Designers’. Now, that makes us smile too.
Neil Barrett Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010
Neil Barrett named his collection ‘Artisan Bonding’. Hmm. It didn’t ring a bell immediately, but it probably referred to the leathers and jersey knits which were bonded together to create seamless pieces. The collection itself echoed the Indian military with elongated jackets and ‘Bombay-pants, Barretts love of formal men’s dressing gave it a more elegant touch and this avoided a more gimmicky look.
CP Company catwalk Fashion Show ss2010
It was the first collection for CP of ex-Galliano menswear designer Wallace Faulds, so expectations were high. Spandau Ballet was on the soundtrack and the place was packed, but in the end the collection was plain and straightforward. Basically it was all about a white tee and indigo jeans, full tops over tapered pants with rolled cuffs. The simplicity and uniformity felt modern, but we missed that extra spark.
Giorgio Armani Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010
Giorgio Armani is at his best when times are rough. He just does where he’s good at: making good suits with that typical Armani twist. Graphic patterns in black and white, a relaxed mix of formal and informal, neutral colors, twotone shoes and snakeskin sneakers. When the company is going bankrupt, at least you can leave in style.
