During the Arnhem Mode Biënnale Dutch Design is well represented. You can, for instance, take a look at some of the designs Klavers van Engelen and Iris van Herpen made.

A design made by Iris van Herpen is placed within the exposition as a fountain. The design (A/W 2011) already told a great story on water and now this story is visualized even better.

Klavers van Engelen showed their airy designs, brought to live by small windmills, making the dresses dance with the wind. Their question: “Wanna Dance Amber?”

While snake prints are very popular at the moment Mada van Gaans wisely continued using snakes as an inspiration for her show. After the Mythical Cobra show she presented last summer, her collection was now based on the Serpent Goddess.

The collection included some snake prints and lots of black designs. Yet we also saw some candy-colored pink passing by. Nice, remarkable and feminine shapes could be seen through a few puffy sleeves and some wide harem pants.

A few looks were enriched with accessories. We saw some great-looking hair decoration with beads in the shape of a heart, fur bags and shoes, which were way too high. Almost every model had difficulty walking in those shoes. Which resulted in none of the models walking very well.

Nevertheless Mada van Gaans showed a chic and sophisticated collection.
‘Bravo’, as one of the people from the audience shouted when Mada appeared.

Linda Valkeman Amsterdam Fashion Week fw2010

The winter collection of Linda Valkeman had some handmade materials mixed with futuristic shapes. We saw patchwork clothes with frayed ends and large visible seams. The models walked the runway in a slow pace wearing clog-like shoes. Linda Valkeman used diverse colors like faded blue and green.

Linda Valkeman (25) is a graduate of School of Arts in Utrecht and followed the master-program at the Fashion Institute Arnhem. At her website she tells more about herself in a short, telegram-like way. She is a night-reveller, a huge fan of Maison Margiela, born blond, lives in structured chaos, is inventive, fashionated by timelessness and searching for a clash. And she likes  vintage, the 20-ties, new york, simplicity and deadlines. Well, enough things a good designer needs to get somewhere.
