The exhibition is also part of Fashionclash 2012. Some designers put their showpieces there after the show, others only present their design here. Interesting was the installation of Sara Vrugt, a large embroidered tapestry she made, but also the drawings & designs of Elvira ‘t Hart, the textile-design of  Ingrid van der Zalm  and the wooden structured dress of Keta Gutmane.

Fashionclash 2012: First Impression

Fashionclash 2012 just kicked of. This afternoon designers added the last finishing touch to their designs, model tried to relax a little and hair and make-up teams worked in overdrive.

Here’s our first impression.

NO SHOW: A SHORT FILM BY ARTEZ FASHION MASTERS AND TEAM PETER STIGTER

For the new crop of fashion and shoe designers graduating from the Fashion Masters of ArtEZ Institute of the Arts, Team Peter Stigter developed the film NO SHOW. This short film presents the fashion show which displays the students’ graduation projects in a sparkling setting of both backstage and onstage visuals. Better than a live fashion show, NO SHOW is thus the perfect springboard for an international fashion career.

NO SHOW is on view during the exhibition Basic Instincts, Dutch fashion in context by Premsela, The Netherlands Institute for Design and Fashion and Museum for Modern Art Arnhem (MMKA). Exhibition: Saturday 2 June through Sunday 29 July 2012, Eusebiuskerk, Kerkplein 1, Arnhem.

This was Amsterdam Fashion Week FW2012

Fashion is vaporized. All cameras are packed. Make up dissolved. The stage disappeared. This 16th edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week attracted almost 20.000 people. Visitors enjoyed the vibe and nice shows, to name some highlights: the openingnight with Bas Kosters and Sjaak Hullekes, the Lab-shows, Sage & Ivy-show, SIS by Spijkers & Spijkers, Jan Boelo and the Cast Iron-show. A special thanks to the organization of Amsterdam Fashionweek who made it all work out smoothly.

We’re on our way already to the next fashionweeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris.

So we’ll meet again.

Impressions of Amsterdam Fashion Week FW2012 Day 3

It was a big day at the Amsterdam Fashion Week yesterday. Although she was supposed to arrive late in the afternoon, everybody was obsessed with princess Máxima’s visit at The Green Fashion Competition. They almost forgot there was much more to see. We saw interesting shows of Jacob Kok and Marloes Blaas, and Alexia van Engelen choose a wonderful, atmospheric venue to present her Sage & Ivy-collection.

The Cast-Iron-show was a spectacle that closed the third day of Amsterdam Fashion Week.

Take a look backstage at the show of Hyun Yeu’s collection Ado Les Scents, which was inspired by the book ‘1984’ of Aldous Huxley.

Impressions of AFW FW2012 Day 1

The first day of Amsterdam Fashion Week is a fact. Highlights of yesterday were the opening party, the Sjaak Hullekes-show and the Bas Kosters-show, with the launch of his magazine Extra Kak and a performance of the designer himself.

Jan Taminiau Catwalk Fashion Couture Show ss2012

Dutch designer Jan Taminiau showed his Tarnished Beauty collection during the first day of Paris Haute Couture. According to the press release  the collection was designed to elevate women. For this purpose Jan Taminiau deployed an army of beauty. The collection is feminine, colorful and extravagant with fragile forms, tarnished delicate fabrics underneath and in contrast with this glittering armor.

Tarnished Beauty
In the world of Jan Taminiau  beauty is more than a twinkling armor that protects us from reality. It is a hedonistic refuge that keeps the world outside. Real beauty comes alive when people open themselves to each other. Ultimately, the army descends and the masks go off.
