Lacoste Catwalk Fashion Show New York Womenswear FW2014

A visit to a golf course built in the late Twenties in France’s Basque region by René Lacoste’s father-in-law, was the starting point for Felipe Oliveira Baptista’s collection for Lacoste. He handled the golfing theme with restraint.

The sporty looks were relaxed, polished and wearable, but could have used a little zest. The women’s portion had its moments of girlish charm,  lik the cool, oversize white sweater with an abstract motif over a skirt. For men, Baptista worked in a mostly tonal palette with ensembles in burgundy, blue and beige, including a double-breasted hooded jacket with pants cut close to the body.

Dennis Diem Fashion Week Amsterdam FW2014

Not only do those towering high fashion shoes make a more dramatic catwalk image, they can be painful and dangerous too. Tonight Dennis Diem showed just how dangerous they can be as he sent out his models on sky-high black shoes. After a few tumbling and stumbling models one of the girls really fell flat on her face. It gave everyone in the audience a heart attack, yet turned out to be an act (what a relief!). It drew our attention away from the clothes for a brief moment, but luckily Dennis’ creations, inspired by opium and the movement of smoke, were just so gorgeous we couldn’t keep our eyes off of them. From a wall of smoke models appeared in a selection of (mostly) monochrome dresses with a slight rebellious touch. Sexy corsets (Diem’s signature) were attached to pencil skirts and floor sweeping dresses with lots of tulle to create that extra romantic vibe. Cashmere capes added some extra drama and shiny sequins gave the looks a dreamy touch. With a focus on shoulders and hips the designs were even more powerful. The fairytale was complete once Dennis received his applause while walking the catwalk accompanied by two of his princesses dressed in impressive off white dream gowns.

Esther Dorhout Mees showed her seventh collection at Fashion Week Amsterdam. The collection ‘Passage’ consists of powerful designer pieces with organic forms in contrast with sharply hard contours. The underlying inspiration is the parallel with our human life. Mees merges apparent contradictions in a perfect symbiosis. Smooth and shiny fabrics are gracefully combined with rough textures. Even cracks in trees are reflected in the pattern pieces. The clean, straight lines of pants and tops contrast with voluminous folds and flowing dresses. In the knitwear we see this vulnerability and strength woven into each piece.

FashionWeek Amsterdam FW2014, this was Day 3

The third day of Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam was a day full of surprises and different shows, from te madness of MaryMe JimmyPaul tot the slick menswear of Jonathan Christopher Homme. After an interesting show full of futuristic shoes the Clarks Shoe design Award 2014 went to Janine van den Bosch. Two more day to go!

SuperTrash Catwalk Fashion Show FW2014

Saturday night MaryMe JimmyPaul was the closing show of the official MBFWA schedule, but the party wasn’t over yet.. Powerwoman Olcay Gulsen and her SuperTrash team invited us (the press), the retailers and a bunch of celebs to Sugar City, an old factory just outside Amsterdam, which was turned into the SuperTrash galaxy for one night. Here Olcay presented her fall/winter collection ‘Big Bang!’ With a focus on ‘The Rise of Women’.

It took over an hour to get most people seated in the Sugar City and there weren’t even enough seats for the enormous crowd. A large white ball hanging from the ceiling and a big white runway created not only that galaxy setting, but gave the show some international appeal too. It almost felt like a small Chanel show with it’s large props.

Supermodel Bregje Heinen brought even more of that international feeling to the evening as she opened the show in a winter white look. The white, cream, silver and shiny looks that followed all had a clear futuristic touch to them, matching the show’s theme. Helmets and other types of crazy head gear (with Micky Mouse ears, antlers and horns) added to that feeling, as did enormous pieces of metallic jewelry.

Like always at SuperTrash the show was divided into different themes. After the light and the white, came a black section, followed by deep blue and brown. An impressive collection with a little bit of everything for everyone, which just looked right on the runway and will look just as good once those SuperTrash fans get their hands on it.

Never mind Olcay almost stumbling at the end..for the rest of the night (and with free drinks for all guests that night lasted quite a while) there was only one word on everyone’s lips.. SuperTrash which closed the evening with a bang!

MaryMe JimmyPaul Fashion Week Amsterdam FW2014

As fog appeared from the sides of the runway and plastic bags whirled all over it the first MaryMe Jimmy Paul a white and gold winter princess (Valentijn de Hingh) made her way onto it. She wore a structured, quilted golden dress, a white furry coat and sneakers. In each of her hands she carried a plastic bag filled with what looked like boiling nitrogen. The idea behind the smoke everywhere? E-cigarette brand Jiksu was the sponsor of the whole event. They made it possible for MaryMe Jimmy Paul to introduce their sporty, stiff sweaters and bring on their fluffy, fur skirts. Their colorful hooded coats, their full on printed and very colorful ensembles, their ripped leather pants and their short haired motor jackets. Not to mention the leather gloves, the black wigs and the sheer backpacks that completed the party. Who the two geniuses behind this all are, we will never really know. Like at their previous fashion show the label’s founders decided not to make an appearance or take a simple bow at the end of the show. Instead their PR ladies walked the runway and gladly took the big applause on their behalf.
