NŌN by KIM SS2015 Amsterdam Fashion Week

With the presentation of ‘Panta Rhei’ (everything flows) designer Kim Bakker made her comeback to the Amsterdam Fashion Week’s official schedule. Inspired by Greek and Indian myths and the thought that the world is created out of an egg she showed a perfectly balanced selection of menswear looks. While a rising sun and waves filled up the show’s backdrop Kim’s models appeared wearing casual items influenced by the Ottoman Empire, that never dissapointed. Sweaters, pants, a parka and bomber jackets in a soft mix of colors with a shiny, metallic kind of touch were the true showstoppers. Shorts, cardigans and rolled up trousers made up for good looking attires. And to make her designs stand out even more Kim used UV reactive prints, which created beautiful colors when taken outside. NŌN by KIM, a joy to watch and a seemingly relaxed and comfy addition to any modern man’s wardrobe. Welcome back Kim!

Fernanda Fernandes and Joelle & Bregje SS2015 Amsterdam Fashion Week

Brazilian born Fernanda Fernandes (Isn’t that a perfect stage name?) showed her work for the very first time during her Amsterdam Fashion Week LAB show today. A show which kicked off surprisingly, by the sound of whispers and people walking on a completely dark runway holding candles in their hands. A church bell sound followed by loud monkey noise and then the models appeared. They were covered in a mix of patent leather, lame, fur, feathers and sheer materials. Corsets, capes, a Jezus inspired crown, laced up boots, masks, chokers and wide coats stressed the religious part of the collection. While several monkey printed items added a touch of humor. Fernandes closed with a large red cape embellished with gold and an ivory look with angel wings. Sensuality and edginess combined in her ‘Quinto Simia’ collection (translated Fith Monkey). We’re curious to see what’s next.

Textile designer Joelle & fashion designer Bregje experienced their fashion week debut today by showing their IINUA collection. A selection of perfectly tailored looks, which weren’t entirely new to us. During FashionClash Joelle Boers already showed some of it. Graphic prints connected the dots in their sporty chic collection, which included both cute dresses and sportive parkas. Hoodies and pointy shoulders played a big part, while towering high shoes designed by Chris van den Elzen and some arty facial decoration completed the contrasting yet harmonious looks. As Joelle and Bregje took their bow at the end we could see that contradiction in their looks as well. A contrast which seemed to work pretty awesome united in IINUA.

Iris van Herpen x Zero Performance SS2015 Amsterdam Fashion Week

Assuming we were attending a regular fashion show, we entered the Gashouder on Thursday night to see Iris van Herpen. But there was nothing regular about this show, we were in for a treat! Instead of the average collection presentation Iris van Herpen teamed up with dance organization Zero (ZERO by Nanine Linning) and surprised us with a modern dance performance. A group of dancers dressed in Iris van Herpen’s black creations from her couture collection of 2012 moved around the catwalk in their very own particular way. Their performance had a sense of modernity, it felt futuristic, yet at the same time it seemed very creature-like and close to nature, mostly because of the costumes. Fashion wise the story didn’t evolve through the act, but a true spectacle it was!

Olaf Hussein SS2015 Amsterdam Fashion Week

For the very first time designer Olaf Hussein (Hussein Yussuf) presented his namesake denim label during the opening night of Amsterdam Fashion Week. He showed a strong, consistent selection of twelve tough menswear looks inspired by de Mod period, end fifties. Sweaters, shirts, coats and – naturally – a bunch of denim formed the base of his sharp cut line. All produced with a modern eye for detail, which came through in drawstring stitches and seams sealing, but also in the lining of T-shirts and the collars of the shirts. Nothing too extraordinary at first sight, but the more impressive once you took a closer look. Classic with a modern touch. A modern touch that was technologically translated via show partner Vodafone too, since all clothes could be bought online immediately after the fashion show. We can only cheer for Olaf’s straightforward strategy, cause once we see something we like, we need it in our wardrobes a.s.a.p.!

Claes Iversen SS2015 Amsterdam Fashion Week

Designer Claes Iversen had the honour of opening this edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week (AFW). Or should we say the AFW had the honour? On Thursday night he presented his SS2015 collection; selection of his couture creations combined with designs from his brand new (more affordable) prêt-à-portercollection ‘II by Claes Iversen’. Clothes that still carried his signature; his love for couture and craftsmanship plus a lot of eye for detail. Yet clothes that brought a totally different vibe with them. Practical pieces that were more about wearability and fitting in with the rest of a woman’s wardrobe, other than being complete head turners on their own. Claes introduced sweat shirts (who would have thought?) decorated by crystals and shorts, shirt dresses and trench coats, pleated pants and suit jackets. Basically a complete wardrobe with a strong focus on tailoring, to take you from a casual shopping spree to a fancy dinner. Overall the clothes were clean, almost minimalistic. Yet it wouldn’t have been a true Claes show without the embroidered flowers, the rich fabrics and the ultra elegant silhouettes. Not to forget his signature pleating, draping and folding. Claes’ seahorse print, some of his airy knits and his color palette of nudes, sands and whites alternated by touches of green and yellow definitely screamed summer. A chic summer we can’t wait for to happen. Two by Claes Iversen, we’ll take one of each piece please!

Round up Paris Menswear Trends SS2015

As Milan’s menswear trends evolved in Paris we got a fresh fashion dose in the French capital. Apart from women accompanying the male models (Miucci Prada set the trend alright) lots of new stories were told. Some more surprising than others, we must admit. Sportswear and primary colors being the more obvious trends, while harnesses and some impressive beauty looks came as more of a shocker. Here our five trends that caught our eyes.

From weird looking hairdos to strong eyebrows and full body paint; crazy beauty at Rick Owens, Comme des Garcons, Raf Simons and Junya Watanabe.

Orang-y red, blue and yellow; primary colors set the summer trend at the likes of Carven, Dior, Dries van Noten and Louis Vuitton.

The sleeveless jacket made his appearance in leather, denim and cotton, mostly worn on top of T-shirts and shirts at Lanvin, Ann DeMeulemeester and Raf Simons.

Boxing pants, leather motor suits and sporty stripes represented the sporty vibe for summer 2015 at Givenchy, Kenzo, Margiela and Moncler.

Not necessarily a trend for average Joe, but Dries van Noten, Rick Owens and Vivienne Westwood sure spiced things up with their bondage inspired leather harnesses.

Trend Report SS2014: Graphic Content

Some seventies, a few fantasy worlds and quite a bunch of technologically produced graphic prints hit the streets the previous editions of fashion week. The print variations seemed endless, the color mostly used blue and shades or purple. Now this trend doesn’t really seem to be for the subtle style lovers; fully dressed in busy prints is the way to go according to our streetstyle heroes. Ralph Lauren, DvF, Edun, BcBg Azria and Zimmerman already showed you how it’s done on the runway. Now you need to go and try this trend for yourself. Go graphic!

The menswear shows of Milan Fashion Week have come to and end. So while the fashion crowd moves on to Pareee we’re taking a quick look at some of the Milan menswear trends. Which – apart from the regular slim suit, the stripes and the checks – was about sensuality (so many torsos at sight at Armani Dsquared, Fendi and Versace) and things less sexy (Teva slippers combined with suits, as seen at Fendi, Prada and Armani). In between: some great denim variations (paint splashed, with leather details, destroyed, bleached), nude and sand colored looks (Calvin Klein, Jil Sander) and a wide selection of new & improved sweatshirts at Bottega, Calvin Klein and Antonio Marras (we just can’t seem to get enough).
