Fall/Winter Catwalk Trend 2017/2018: Skirt + (oversized) Sweater

Nothing says cosy autumn outfit more than a good skirt paired with an oversized sweater. Just ask the creatives at Victoria Beckham, Balenciaga and Dior. A combination so effortless you’d wanna throw it on every single day. Paired with boots, trainers or even a pair of shiny loafers. Skirts can be pleated, layered or tulle as long as those XL woolen/cashmere sweaters are super chunky. Long sleeves, high (turtle) necks. Oh and primary colors seem to be a theme here. So will your look be bright and yellow (MSMG), midnight blue (Dior) or red on (a different) red (Victoria Beckham). Just keep it classy and extremely cosy!

We’ve written about tiny bags for season after season, but it’s time for a change. Bags are getting bigger… or even huge! Just look at the statement makers Michael Kors, Balenciaga, Jil Sander, Proenza Schouler and Acne sent out on their runways. Weekend bags to carry around on any given weekday. Not sure what you’d have to shoulder around all day, but just bring everything along. Your lunch box, your laptop, your make-up kit, naturally. And why not bring an extra pair of shoes and a complete outfit along? Your brand new puffer jacket might even fit in these gigantic arm candy pieces. Now try keep looking cool with all that heavy luggage.

When it comes to hats berets, flatcaps and shipperman’s caps are all the rage this season. Patent black or tweed checked, you can spot them all over town and all over your Instagram feed. A good hat takes your outfit from fine to fantastic (and it occasionally helps solve bad hair days). On the runway hats make up for statement making looks and jaw dropping moment. Especially next year, as FW2018 includes some maddd hats. Large feathers (Galliano, Gucci), patent leather (Dior, Marni), suede (Prada, Saint Laurent) or knitted (Anna Sui, Marc Jacobs). Made out of lace (Ann Demeulemeester), straw (Gucci) or a brown paper box (Moschino). No doubt you can make your hat game for fall/winter 2018 as original and as exotic as you please. But first, let’s rock this season’s headpieces till we grow tired of them!

This classic wardrobe staple truly deserves a spot in your fall/winter wardrobe. In fact, it should have never left your wardrobe in the first place. Thanks to the likes of Balenciaga, Dries van Noten, Valentino, The Row and Céline it has now become a trend piece for the current season. Wear it casually with a jeans and some sneakers or go glam and pair it up with your sequined evening dress. Pair it with your favorite hoodie, cinch the waist with a big belt, pull up the sleeves, hands in your pockets and you´re good to go. In the trenches!

Jef Montes Tormenta Paris Catwalkshow & Presentation

Collection Tormenta is Jef Montes’ first international presentation and Paris debut during the International Art Fair. The collection consists of thirty creations and a material installation. Collection Tormenta is inspired by the maritime industry. Tormenta means Storm in Spanish and the collection exploits Jef’s family heritage with their love for ships. He studied materials that are used in the process to build ships. Materials like nylon, brass, carbon and fibre-glass were used to create technical fabrics. Jef’s grandfather gabriel inspired him to create the dessins for Tormenta. When he was younger he worked on several ships in the south of Spain catching sharks. A few years ago he gave Jef a miniature ship that he handcrafted out of wood. Jef got inspired and that meant the beginning of Tormenta.
Like a ship caught in the storm, Jef designs materials that arise and develop like a storm around the body. Through technical fabrics that take on a new dimension, the essence of the collection is captured in the material installation. Sustainability plays an important role in the p[rocess of Jef’s projects. For Tormenta, several creations from previous projects are further developed and recreated.
Jef Montes is a Dutch designer, whose work balances between the borders of fashion and art.

Fall/Winter Catwalk Trend 2017/2018: Check Mate

If there’s one print to focus on this fall it’s checks. Preferably a subtle tweed version on pencil skirts, flared pants, cigarette pants, blazers, trench coats and woolen coats. Even tweed shoes, bags and berets have become true seasonal musthaves. Just go through your Instagram feed and you know what’s up. The biggest trendsetter in this British trend story would be Balenciaga (also the brand who instigated the current sock boot hype). Other players involved are Michael Kors, Stella McCartney and Calvin Klein, presenting their tweeds in black and white, 50 shades of gray or more of a brown palette. Whether it’s suits or skirts for you this season, checks please!
