It was the second time Futura presented their collection at Amsterdam Fashionweek. The designers sticked to their signature: workwear with a minimal look and slightly futuristic edge. This time in bold red, beige, black and white and large graphics. Overalls, jackets, shirts and pants were kept simple and straight, the details were drawing attention. Like color-blocking, sleeves in a different fabric, a pattern of small holes, big applications.

INKNI + Kaho To Amsterdam Fashion Week fall/winter 2016

INKNI presented a classy collection menswear with a modern edge. Prints did the job and added a playful touch to the minimal style and classic garments. Besides black & white and grey, the colors varied from skintone to yellow and blue.

Kaho To’s collection Transdimensional was inspired by the movie ‘Under the Skin’, where aliens take over the human body. That theme gave the collection had a slightly dark undertone with prints of melting fluids, applications and morphing plastic. The use of orange, white and blue balanced the dark out as did the minimal design.

SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers Amsterdam Fashion Week fall/winter 2016

Leave it up to Truus and Riet Spijkers to take care of our Saturday night entertainment. Once again they delighted us with yet another on point SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers collection. Discover Moon Tan, inspired by the moon and a trip to Shanghai the Arnhem based designers made earlier this year. Their muse: Ching Shih, a pirate and a princess of the Chinese Sea in the 18th century. Think: lots of color, graphic cuts and theme-inspired prints like an ikat pattern designed around Chinese landscapes and cube-like panters. Suits in large woolen tartan prints and lurex jacquards were followed by dresses made of extra soft crêpe de Chine, wool and satin. Even jeans and sweatshirts made their appearance. Finished off with XL mirror earrings, pendants, brooches, reflecting the catalk lights like the full moon. Creating ensembles both elegant and comfortable, suitable for both office and happy hours.

Mick Keus Amsterdam Fashion Week fall/winter 2016

Mick Keus made his way onto the fashion week programme this season. The fashion artist usually works on re-appropriating vintage Levi’s 501 for today. Tonight he got a chance to show of his hard customising work during his own show. And since there’s no better way of showing Mick’s jeans than showing them on the people who wear them (daily, weekly, monthly) Mick’s models were a diverse bunch of people. The people who let the jeans revive in today’s world with the perfect custom fit. Jeans that become one with their new owner for a new life in Levi’s.

Sisters of the Castle Amsterdam Fashion Week fall/winter 2016

A show, unlike any other we have ever witnessed, that was Sistaaz of the Castle by photographer Jan Hoek & fashion designer Duran Lantink. Their project is based around the colorful looks of transgender sex workers on the streets of Capetown. Today a collection based on those fashionable types and their ability to make the most outspoken looks out of anything and everything they can find was presented. A photo exhibition with this very same theme can be visited at the Foam photography in Amsterdam, including portraits of six girls Coco (25), Cleopatra (23), Sulaiga (30), Gabby (29), Flavinia (33) and Joan Collins (57). Pictures that eventually formed the lookbook images for Duran Lantink’s collection and were projected onto today’s backdrop. During the show the audience got to know a little bit more about their lives, their dreams and the way they hope to be perceived by others. Six models were put up on a driving backdrop, each portraying one of the six transgender sex workers. They were fully dressep up and had gotten completely into character. In between different models showed Duran’s latest wearable designs as an explosive finally followed. A spectacle almost impossible to describe in words. Oh well, just check out the images and see it for yourself.

Happy Andrada + Esther Haamke Amsterdam Fashion Week fall/winter 2016

Happy Andrada
Happy Andrada already won us over with the models impressive warrior hairdos. Yet the clothes didn’t fail to impress either. Embroidered leggings, asymmetric dresses and superhero cape-inspired collars made Andrada’s girls look even more fierce. The mix of grey, silver and purple shaded looks felt urban and party proof at the same time. No everyday looks, but stage inspired special. Happy Saturday.

Esther Haamke
Before Esther Haamke’s show we all received a small lottery ticket to see if we got lucky and won a prize. As it turned out, luck, fortune if you will, was the bigger theme of the collection. As the show notes read “Fortune can only be multiplied when it is shared with others.” Fortune in love, games, life… the collection formed a humorous take on the materialistic society. Casino signs, lucky charms, ‘loser’ and ‘winner’ texts and lucky cat prints represented that. As lots of coloured metallics, sequins, bright prints and large make-up glitters completed the party. Number 179 in the audience won and received a goodiebag at the end of the show, but having seen this spectacle we all got lucky tonight.

Texts like ‘Slow Fashion’ and ‘From trash to treasure’ (once again seventy percent of the collection was produced by Waste2Wear®, fabrics made out of recycled plastic bottles) as well as giant images of the designer herself were pictured at Monique Collignon’s backdrop today. A nice message to spread during this fashion filled week while delivering yet another solid, feminine collection. To the tunes of ‘Show me love’, ‘I am every woman’ and ‘R.E.S.P.E.C.T.’ Monique Collignon sent out luxurious looking elegant ensembles. In a winter proof palette of purple, green, brown and navy her fierce models looked classy and fierce. A purple number with a green coat tossed around the models shoulders looked extremely desirable. As well as a beige and blue look topped off with a filt hat. From basic outfits to party looks extravaganza Monique Collignon will hook you up with the best slow fashion creations next winter.
