Fall Winter Trend 2016 / 2017: Hoodie hype

It adds a certain coolness and a touch of sport. The hoodie is the ultimate item to give your outfit some extra street cred. And this season you can simply wear in underneath your chicest camel coat, your dressed up black blazer or your army colored patent parka. When Vetements hoodies with a over 500 euro price tag on them are selling like hotcakes, you know something’s up. The hoodie turned chic. And we couldn’t be more happy with a fashion trend in which mom jeans, oversized hoodies and teddy overcoats suddenly fit the dressed up fashion code. Whether cropped or worn as a dress, snuggle up in your favorite hoodie and bear the winter cold while looking cool as ice.

Fall Winter Trend 2016 / 2017: Puffer Gone Posh

Yes, it took us quite a while to adjust to this one too. And boy did we take our time. Ever since the release of Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’ in the summer of 2015 the puffer coat has wandered around in our subconscious. We may have had red puffer dreams, but never ended up actually buying and wearing one ourselves. The puffer coat did come across as a man repelling kind of fashion trend. It wouldn’t do anyone any good to their figure. But slightly careless hanging on one of Rihanna, Gigi or Kim K’s shoulders we (and more importantly the cool streetstyle kids) could suddenly see this item becoming a big trend. Tommy Hilfiger, Balenciaga (they even already introduced a body warmer for SS2017), ACNE Studios, DKNY and Stella McCartney all sent out their versions. And this winter, we’re finally prepared to work it. Matched with the tightest of pants they don’t look so bad after all. Plus, you’ll be able to bear the coldest of temperatures. Now, the high street shops have all introduced their own puffer version, in navy, black or army printed, but if you’re gonna do it, opt for that red hot version. The puffer was never this posh. Get it while it’s hot.

WOMENSWEAR TREND FW2016: Tartan

The Tartan hype instigated by Saint Laurent 3 years ago had not left the fashion field just yet or we’re experiencing a new wave of tartan checks. So in case you’re bored with those flannels but are looking for a way to work some of the Scottish print into your wardrobe, some of the biggest brands are setting the new style example. More than anything else a tartan coat seems to be the key item, just look at Balenciaga, Burberry, Chanel and Etro. Not your thing? That blue shaded Calvin Klein skirt suits might be the most elegant tartan printed piece out there. But of course you can always try a head to toe checked Todds look with off white loafers and a fur collar. Which ever style you’re going for, just ignore that over the top Frankenstein shirt Vetements sent out. It’s a definite case of don’t try this at home, but let it be your ultimate tartan inspiration leading you to a better fit. And if the kilt is going to be your best buy, make sure to wear some undies with it.

MENSWEAR TREND ss2016: Camouflage Cool

Standing out while blending in; it might sound like an impossible mission. Yet after you’ve clicked your way through our image gallery you’ll know just what we’re talking about. Dior Homme, Saint Laurent, Vivienne Westwood and even Valentino sent out camouflage printed looks for this season. Mostly parka’s guys can rock at summer festivals to come (army inspired, festival proof). Yet the camouflage print also appeared on shirts and backpacks. And as you can see it’s the coolest thing, combined with leopard prints and checks (Saint Laurent). Camo cool it is!

MENSWEAR TREND ss2016: Yay to grey

Experts say brown is going to have a moment in 2017. Yet before we go into that we explore the current color trend which focuses on grey. For SS2016 the biggest fashion labels sent out endless variations to suits and casual wear. Lots of checked grey suits and grey jerseys, but you can basically dress in grey everyday. Just take a look at how Bottega Veneta, Thom Brown, Burberry and Diesel worked grey into their summer collections. Thom Brown presented a full range of the most extravagantly printed grey suits. Even colorful Kenzo turned to the sober hue and of course Armani’s collection wouldn’t be complete without his greige. Whether formal or easy going, a Diesel hoodie or a Burberry scarf, concrete shaded or silverish; have it your way in grey.

WOMENSWEAR SS2016: Bailamos!

The ruffled off shoulder top is without a doubt the fashion piece most worn by fashion professionals. Just have a glance at your Instagram and you know what’s up. A top that perfectly fits in with the bigger latina style trend of this summer. Ruffles and volants all over. In the mix with sexy legs, cropped tops and long lengths. The colors of choice? Shades of red, pink and orange; colors that communicate passion. ‘Cause that’s what a Latina is all about. She speaks from the heart when she dresses up in that red skirt en white Tee (Blugirl). When she rocks that bright orange bodycon dress (Balmain) it’s pure passion. Latina bonita. A sexy open heel, flower in the hair and she’s out for night. Duele El Corazon by Enrique on repeat, bailamos!

MENSWEAR TREND ss2016: Just Drop It

When it comes to hemlines in the womenswear department they seem to change a bit every year; rising and dropping in line with the latest trends. This year menswear shorts are doing the same thing. Hemlines are dropping and long shorts seem to dominate the SS2016 menswear image. Balmain, Armani and Dsquared are just a few of the brands covering the longer short for summer. Yet the fact that they’re all at knee length might be just about the one thing those shorts have in common. Animal printed (Coach), bright pink (Dsquared), double layered (Balmain), baby blue and 7/8 (Emporio Armani); more is a bore doesn’t apply here. They came in heavy; leather look (and some palmtrees) at Dsquared and suede at Fendi, silky: at Philip Lim and Dolce & Gabbana, sophisticated; Gucci and Jil Sander and ultra casual; Long and Kenzo. Proof that you can go either way with this year’s summer short. Whether office ready or beach bound; any man should be able to smoothly work the short into this season’s wardrobe. And most importantly: have a little fun while he’s at it. Donatella Versace is showing just how that is done, sending out her male models in head to toe lilac looks, shorts worn over trousers. Out of the box, indeed!

P.S. For those who will never give into the man wearing shorts-trend: just drop it. Hermes, Neil Barett, Walter van Beirendock, Haider Ackermann, Valentino, Thom Browne and Saint Laurent skipped shorts all along this season.

P.S.2 For those guys who prefer showing a little more leg we’ve got a trend report on extra short shorts (by the likes of Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Prada) coming up in two weeks.

STREETSTYLE TREND SS2016: IN DA HOOD(IE)

They’ve never really been gone, but on a fashion level hoodies are making a huuuge comeback. Transforming from the ultimate sportswear item (or the best Netflix & chill sweater, if you will) to the chicest outerwear piece of the season. The fact that hoodies are all the rage this season might have something to do with Vetements’ popularity and their focus on this strong streetwear piece. Yet there’s no need to pay over 500 euros to look as cool as Rihanna and Kanye did in their Vetements hoodies. Even one of those oversized, worn out hoodies you still have in your closet might do the trick. Or think about old school sportswear hoodies by Champion, Fila or Adidas. You can even pick one by your favorite artist/band. It’s the attitude that matters most, you know! Besides that a stiff hood and extra long slevees help create the right vibe. Hide yourself a little, act like your camera shy. It’s even okay to put it over your head. It’s what the cool kids are doing. The hoodie combines very well with jackets, trenches and coats. And just like that a grey melange hoodie paired with a woollen camel coat can be the chicest thing. Looking savvy was never this comfy. Question is: are you in da mood?

Trend Report FW2016: not just a skirt

December 22, 2015 by

You can wear a skirt. Ór you can wear a Skirt. According to that last part, it’s best to watch the trick at fashion masterminds like Lanvin, Rodarte, Fendi, Prabal Gurung and Acne Studios. All that counts for this winter is complex shapes, perfect silhouettes, asymmetrical lines and multilayering (even better: 3D-layering). Mixing different textures and fabrics; (metallic)leather, feathers or suede. Even skirt over pants is making its comeback in the fashion arena (the ‘skant’- how 90’s!), as seen at big boys such as Dries van Noten and Givenchy. Skirts ain’t the holy property for the good girls in school any more. Nor the bad girls exploring the night life. We can all play this game, even at the office or when attending Christmas dinner at the in-laws (perhaps not the mini-skirt though). Choose your style and it’s gonna be a hell of a lot of fun this season.
