Just Cavalli Catwalk Fashion Show Milan Womenswear FW2013

Today’s Just Cavalli show was filled with the most beautiful ethnic prints. Inspired by Roberto and Eva Cavalli’s trip to Bhutan they covered plants and special buildings. They appeared on completely printed looks; blouses, pants, ultra short dresses and even evening gowns.
Now don’t think they forgot about the animal prints; there was still a large enough dose of tiger stripes, leopard spots and snake patterns. On the lining of a coat, pants, dresses and as a detail part of one of the lively prints.
Yet apart from all those prints and all that color the most interesting part about Just Cavalli today was that is was not just sexy. Yes there were some figure hugging dresses, but the thick sweaters (even with turtle neck and a high white collar), wide tees and structured coats felt the most surprising and refreshing. They still were very Cavalli, but the designers definitely took a risk here.
We encourage them to be risky more often, ‘cause we really liked what we saw today.

Alexa Chung was the muse for Anna Molinari’s Blugirl collection, the younger line of Blumarine. The British ‘It’ girl sees fashion in a cool and youthful way, and the first few schoolgirl looks made that point. Leopard-patterned furry coats added a rebel touch.

Roomy, bathrobelike toppers in thick fabrics were the key-items of Max Mara’s collection, along with loose pants that fell over brown-and-mustard sneakers. The Max Mara design team took a little inspiration from Bauhaus and stuck to a basic palette of camel, gray, black and dark blue, keeping the focus on shapes, and outerwear. Rounded shoulders were sometimes accentuated with leather patches.

Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s fall collection for No. 21 was inspired by Nineties grunge. The designer fused British influences with a dose of Italian glamor, making for a study in contrasts. There was also Dell’Acqua’s signature masculine-feminine aesthetic including rockabilly drainpipe pants — cropped to show off Michael Jackson-style crystal-studded socks — and cocoon coats.

For her fall 2013 collection Alberta Ferretti stayed close to her DNA, meaning: soft romance and femininity. Out came lovely clothes, subtle and sometimes playful with some impressive workmanship in re-embroidered lace and floral adornments. Two silhouettes dominated: straight to the floor and a shorter version. Colors varied from black and white, blue, purple, red and green. Especially her velvet dresses were pretty.

The Gucci-collection for fall 2013 is about smart, wearable, precisely cut style. Designer Frida Giannini went for structured, sculptural lines with pronounced shoulders, either rounded or slightly raised. There were roomy coats and jackets over slim skirts, suits and dresses with body-conscious allure often with V-necklines. This is a powerwoman, especially when she is wearing black (snake) leather. Colors were traditinal autumn-like: moss-green, maroon, russet.
Giorgio Armani Menswear Catwalk Fashion Show Milan FW2013
Every single one of the models’ hair was perfectly put in place, but apart from that Giorgio Armani’s models were less concerned about their looks. The f/w man is, according to Armani himself, “a more spirited and less decadent man, who is more involved in what happens around him”. A guy that combines pinstriped pants with an army green jacket if he feels like it. Who is men enough to wear ruby colored velvet and can pull off (too) short double breasted jackets. He can put on a houndstooth shirt with a quilted, checked jacket without looking like a clown. And when he goes out in his three piece suit women just throw themselves at his feet. He dresses sporty, trendy and functional; let’s schedule to meet this guy ‘cause he sure seems like a fine lad.
Dsquared Menswear Catwalk Fashion Show Milan FW2013
While most labels hire more and more asian models, Dean and Dan only sent all black models down their Milan runway. They wore casual ready to wear designs and were given a geek-y touch by high hats and nerdy glasses.
The show’s setting took us back to the twenties Jazz Age (there was even a small strip performance going on in the backdrop), but the clothes looked modern and youthful. Drop crotch Jeans with rolled up legs were matched with white shirts and styled off in many different ways. Combined with knitted sweaters, checked waistcoats, shiny tuxedo jackets and always finished with a bow tie or a tie in a fun color or print.
To make sure it all wouldn’t feel to gimmick-y the designers took (quite) a few steps back for the finale. Over thirty men dressed in neutral shaded underwear, a pretty sight to end this Milan Fashion Week with.
