Time to put on something white, a shirt, skirt or dress. Add some color with a yellow cardigan or purple tie-dyed scarf – like the collection of Bottega Veneta. And keep it simple and clean.

Streetfashion: in the army

Army-green is one of the hottest colors in fashion right now. Not only this spring, but also next autumn. The color itself has been used in militaries since at least World War two, but every now and then it pops up in high fashion. Of course it never really disappeared from the streets, it only got a lot more fashion character  because of Junya Watanabe, Balmain and Burberry. In the streets of Milan and Paris we spotted many parka’s, jackets, combatpants and big coats.

Catwalktrends SS2010: sexy sandals

We know women look their best wearing high heels. But a girl needs to be able to wear some comfortable shoes from time to time as well. Especially in the summer when she just likes to chill and hang out on the beach. For those easy breezy days the sandal is the perfect footwear. Sandals are comfortable, your feet are able to breath in them and they are still sexy.

On the runway sandals were worn too. It must have been a relief for the models who mostly have to walk in towering high shoes like the crazy Versace, McQueen and Galliano shoes from this season.

Armani, Chloe, Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui and Karl Lagerfeld all used sandals in their shows. They formed a big contrast with the high heels, not only because of their height but also because of their looks. The sandals were flat, plain and didn’t have any color in them (we only saw them in black and brown). Armani fortunately did add a flower to his sandals, Anna Sui decorated hers as well and at Valentino a bow was put at the back of the sandals.

When comparing sandals and high heels, we must admit sandals look a lot less fun. Yet for a day off they’re a great alternative.

Catwalktrends SS2010: mini summer dresses

For summer many fashion designers made their clothes more loose-fitting than before. Also, the skirts and dresses were less short than we saw last year.

But ain’t no summer without the mini-dress, so almost every collection had at least one bright-colored mini dress in it.

The mini-dresses represented the perfect summer feeling. They were often strapless (Moschino, D&G, Gianfranco Ferre, Karl Lagerfeld) and had lots of pleats at the bottom (McQueen, Valentino, Ungaro, Dior).

Not all of us ladies will be able to work one of those revealing dresses. But if you have flawless legs for days you really should pull of this summer look. These mini-dresses are perfect for a day off or a night at the club. You’ll feel like summer as soon as you put one on. And, of course, many men will be thankful for you doing that.

Streetfashion: harempants

It looks like the days of the legging are (almost) over. Harempants are taking their place. It’s not everybody’s favorite, but depending on your figure it can be a nice summer-item. Mixed with a short jacket and high heels it can be casual and dressed at the same time. We spotted some earlybirds during the fashionweeks in Paris and Milan.

Armani Privé Haute Couture Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010

It was obvious that Giorgio Armani’s haute couturecollection was all about the moon. It was in the colors – from midnight blue to moon-white – in the buttons and closures, in the rounded silhouette, in the curvy cutting and in the embroideries made to look like craters of the moon. For evening there were sparkling silver beading at dresses, pale metallic pinks and greens and many shiny sequins.

Surely there are some designs we will see again during the Oscar Awards. Especially the long, figure-narrowing dresses in black with white or cream.

Christian Dior Haute Couture Catwalk Fashion Show ss2010

Elegant amazones walked the small runway at the first floor of the Christian Dior store in Paris. Kylie Minogue was sitting front row, as was Dita von Teese and Tavi, the 13 year old fashionblogger from Chicago.

John Galliano took a picture of couturier Charles James as his inspiration for the ss2010 haute couture-collection. And it was a sensory overload as usual. This time Galliano’s researchtrip went to the Metropolitan Museum where the gowns of Charles James caught his eye. There he saw a  picture of the designer – who influenced Monsieur Dior to come up with the New Look – with an image of women riding sidesaddle in the backround. The result is a collection full of riding skirts with nip-waisted jackets, frothy cocktail dresses and satin ballgowns. Colors went from black, white an red to purple, orange, green and pastelshades.

The refined elegance, the strong women and the longer skirts and accent at the waist will influence a whole new silhouette for the coming seasons.
