Mugler Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2011
On Wednesday night we witnessed the rebirth of fashion label Thierry Mugler. Not only because the new creative director Nicole Formichetti debuted his first collection for the label. But also cause as of today the label is called just ‘Mugler’ (incl. a brand new logo).
Many came to witness Nicola Formichetti’s debut collection for Mugler, while Formichetti has been responsible for many of Lady Gaga’s looks (he was her stylist). Of course everyone was hoping the diva would turn up herself, but she was nowhere to be found. We did hear her brand new song playing during the fashion show, though. Gaga was even mentioned as the ‘musical director of this menswear project’ in Mugler’s show notes.
On his debut collection Formichetti worked together with Romain Kremer (who already worked for the brand before) and together they did one hell of a job. The show was full of daring menswear, like extremely wide and padded trousers, long (sometimes belted) jackets and tops revealing the mens’ bellies. Not to mention all the latex and the extreme tattoos, masks and make-up the models had on; very scary!
Shades of blue, black and olive green passed by as well as a bright orange color. Towards the end of the show the models wore some kind of transparent veils over their heads. It looked scary and crazy, but at least they had fun with it.
Now let’s hope Formichetti will be as successful at Mugler as he was with Gaga and the label is back in business!
Emmanuelle Alt new editor in chief French Vogue
Emmanuelle Alt will be the brand new editor in chief of French Vogue. She will replace Carine Roitfeld, who in December announced she was planning on leaving the magazine.
On 1 February Alt will start with her new function and in the April edition of Vogue Paris she will officially be introduced to all Vogue Paris-readers.
‘It is a great honor for me, and also a great pleasure, to arrive at the head of Vogue Paris which I know so well. By working with such a talented team, I am confident of developing the incredible potential of the magazine’, Alt said at the press conference held on Friday 7 January.
Hermès Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2011

It was the last collection Jean Paul Gaultier designed for Hermès and it was a good one. The show started by horses galloping through the show area bringing up Hermes’ heritage.
Again lots of (broad brimmed) hats and lots of leather. Yet this time in a softer color palette of camel, sand, beige and cognac, which immediately turned the masculine suits in more feminine clothing.
The pants were loose and long, the jackets had accentuated shoulders. Pieces of leather tied around the waist resembled corsets, but still looked tough.
Every look was timeless and perfectly lived up to the house’s name.

Louis Vuitton Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2011

For Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs presented a collection with a disco-chic vibe. Like in his Marc Jacobs show we saw lots of vibrant colors with a lot of extra’s added to the mix. There were fringes, glitters, animal and floral prints.
He gave the collection a bit of an oriental feeling by adding shiny Eastern-inspired designs. Besides animal prints he also had images of panda’s and giraffes on the clothes. Plus two large tiger were placed on stage.
It was quite a change compared to the neat and sober fifties-inspired looks from last season, but it was again something new. And we’re quite sure some new trends will be picked up from this collection and become a major hit next summer.
Elie Saab Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2011
It was back to the seventies at Elie Saab, like we’ve seen on so many other runways this season. The designer tried to catch the the wild nights of Studio 54 with a lineup that was long on jersey, chiffon, sequins and platform sandals. Michel Gaubert’s soundtrack of Rolling Stones, Blondie, and Diana Ross tunes worked hard to add some sizzle to the show. ,
40 Years of Kenzo Catwalk Fashion Show Paris

On Tuesday night Antonio Marras not only presented a new summer collection for Kenzo, but also celebrated the brand’s 40th anniversary. Though he’s only been designer at Kenzo for six years he had the honor to design a special collection of pieces from the label’s archive.
The pieces had influences from Japan (Kenzo’s origins) as well as Sardinia (Marras’ origins) in them, which combined surprisingly well. There were kimono’s and floor sweeping dresses, floral prints and sequins
While the spring/summer collection had mostly light colors and pastels in it, the finale was super bright. Kenzo stretched out the models’ figures by putting them on high shoes and giving hem all sorts of head pieces. The outfits were a combination of layers of Kenzo’s signature color prints.
While the circular stage at Cirque d’Hiver turned around everyone in the audience could get a good look at the forty models. It created the most beautiful image. On to the next forty years!

Valentino Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2011

The Valentino collection Pier Paolo Picciolo and Maria Grazia Chiuri presented for next summer was cohesive, elegant and very Valentino.
All the Valentino aspects were there. The ruffles, the sheerness, the sexy dresses and the red. Though this time it was not the signature Valentino red we saw; it looked slightly more pink.
It was a very luxurious collection, with delicate clothes meant to be worn at fancy cocktail parties or chic gala events. There was not a pair of pants in sight. But the typical Valentino girl won’t even need one of those.
Valentino himself seemed to like it. He was one of the few people giving a standing ovation during the finale. Let’s hope he’s proud.
