Rochas’ fall collection is Marco Zanini’s definition of chic. He reconnected with his Swedish roots with charming results. The outcome became a refresher course on fashion classics. There were the boxy kick-pleat skirts and Shetland wool sweaters, oversized coats in felted wool and swingy jackets, paired with leggings or capri pants. Elements of tailoring were sprinkled throughout, including some blazers with hefty shoulder pads. For night, Zanini took a turn showing black brocade cocktail dresses with exposed zippers.

Dries van Noten presented a beautiful, restraint collection, mainly in black, white and camel with flashes of color and exciting prints. He got inspired by David Bowie and the Ballets Russes and translated that into a romantic collage of print, color and textures. And it was ultrachic. Lond coats over pants, golden skirts with black sweaters and dresses cut with intense yet visually discreet asymmetry.

Again Dutch designer Jospehus Thimister tried to make a comeback, after the presentation of his haute couture-collection a year ago. Hopefully he will last longer now. Thimister started his show with total black and total white outfits – suits, dresses, jumpsuits – loose, draped, for men and women. The most interesting part though was the second half of the show, where Thimister used his obsession for fabrics to present rough, tough knits and garments made of hairy felt and skin in white and grey tones.

Iris van Herpen Haute Couture show Paris SS2011
This week Iris van Herpen once again amazed the international fashion crowd with another great collection. She presented her new series of twelve outfits, for the first time during the Paris Haute Couture Week.
Iris van Herpen was inspired by the increasing digitalization of the world around us. She used the sculptures of American artist Kris Kuksi as an important inspiration and used a very special printing technique for her dresses. The designs were fully printed in 3D, not a single stitch was needed. Iris developed that technique together with architect Daniel Widrig, she used this technique in her previous collections too.
The white, black, grey and beige creations were made out of unconventional material like a mix of metal and silk, burned woven metal and shiny hair threads.
And there were more collaborations… For the shoes of the show Iris worked with Rem. D Koolhaas of United Nude again and she was honored to have British hat designer Stephen Jones working on her hats. They were made out of technological bits and pieces. Remnants of computers and speakers were turned into modern hat pieces….Wow!

Yves St. Laurent Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2011
For the YSL:-menswearcollection Stefano Pilati found inspiration at Savile Row and the Mod style so unmistakenly linked to Sixties London and still there. Choosing this theme the designer left the wider pants behind (a fit other fashionbrands are showing this season) and made cigarette-pipe trousers and big shoes the foundation for innovative jackets. Some got a velvet trim, breast pockets, compact lapels and clustered buttons which added a youthful character to the new tailoring.
Turtlenecks or band-collared shirts added color. In a season with a lot of outerwear the coats Pilati showed were rather refreshing because of the trapeze-silhouette and use of fabric.
