Marloes Blaas Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam FW2011

Marloes Blaas showed at the Zuiveringshal today, a bigger show area, so a great step for her. The collection called ‘a woman’s merit’ was inspired by the forties and had lots of world war references in it.

The show started with heavy materials like old army tents, leather and chunky knits (capes and pants). Yet there were some airy, feminine items too, like blouses and jumpsuits. Marloes used old maps from the world war too and in that way recycled her materials like people did in the forties.

Check our show preview for more background information on the show of Marloes Blaas.

SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam FW2011

We saw some Fast Ladies on the runway at SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers. Wearing loose-fitting overalls (with lammy collars), knitted dresses, leather jackets and loose pants the girls rocked the show, inspired by the first women in race sport and aviation.

Truus and Riet Spijkers always felt that women should feel free and live up to their dreams, so they chose Amelia Earhart (the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean) as the muse of this new collection.

The silhouettes were very tailored, yet everything looked very comfortable and elegant. The shades of black, true blue, dreamblue, grey blue, ochre, ecru and light taupe worked together beautifully. The brand new ‘cloud print’ the sisters designed in red and blue felt like a modern camouflage print and looked fresh.

Congrats on your second SIS collection Spijkertjes!

The Green Fashion Competition Fashion Show Amsterdam

Today Elsien Gringhuis won the first price (25.000 euro) during the Green Fashion Competition on behalf of the Dutch ministry. The second price (15.000 euro) went to OAT.

Eight finalists competed against each other in the finale of the Green Fashion Competition. They had to come up with a good business plan that was also eco-friendly.

Elsien won the first price, because as a young designer she managed to create a signature style in a very short period of time. She was also honored because she combines futuristic design with respect for the environment.

OAT, who sent half naked models down the runway, wearing nothing more than a pair of knickers, is known for it’s clean shoe designs made out of sustainable materials. The sneakers  of this brand do not only look good but are beneficial to the environment as well.

Congrats to you both!!

Roparosa & Bravoure Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam FW2011

January 27, 2011 by

The second day of the Amsterdam Fashion Week started with two small shows. One by Roparosa and the other by Bravoure

Roparosa showed a collection in which all design lines emanated from the middle of the models’ bodies. Therefore they all had the feeling of a radiating star contained within the garments. It felt very sporty chic as form fitted items were combined with graphic lines and loose cuts made of comfortable materials. We saw loose fitting designs in shades like black, deep red, blue and nude. Nicely done and very wearable!

After Roparosa young fashion label Bravoure took over the runway with their Tribal chich collection. Models with feather head pieces appeared on a catwalk full of smoke. Designers Patricia Hofstede and Kim Jansen created black designs with lots of draping, pleats and colorful beads. The creations had wide sleeves and fringes too. Art deco meets Hiawatha?
