Photographer Nick Helderman is new to the world of fashion. He knows his way quite well in the music-scene, but is still an outsider to the wonderful, glamorous, intoxicating, exaggerated world of fashion. Peter Stigter invited his talented colleague to experience the Amsterdam International Fashion Week and try to capture his vision in images. Today, part two.

Nick Helderman  lives in Amsterdam. He published in Het Parool, Glamcult and OOR. In 2010 he was nominated for the Popview/Lex van Rossen Award. You can look at his portfolio here.

Which crew are you? Jurlights at AIFW

There’s no show without lights. And the lights-production/design at the AIFW-shows is in the hands of Jurlights for a few seasons now. So all the beautiful lightsets at Hunkemoller, Jan Boelo, Lichting 2011 and more were designed and produced by this team.

The Jurlights-crew from left to right in the back: Jur, Eddy, Roos, Menno and Raymond. In the front: Frank and Lisette.

Jan Boelo Catwalk Fashion Show AIFWSS2012

Jan Boelo held his fashion show at 3.00 p.m., but unlike at other fashion shows this didn’t withhold the VIP guests to come to his show. And we got the feeling his star studded front row very much enjoyed his Rock ‘n Roll Balmain-inspired presentation.

It started with a short clip (see below), just to set the mood right.

Then Boelo’s angry models appeared sporting shiny tailored jackets, loose rock pants and glamrock shoes. They walked fierce and fast and sure worked Boelo’s seventies inspired creations (for men and women).

Leather pants and dresses with lots of chains and metal belts made the models look tough. Shiny denim shorts (with pockets sticking out from underneath) seemed perfect for a summer festival. And those well fitted Baroque and Roll jackets (with stressed shoulders) could just be very wearable (when styled in a more sober manner).

To the sounds of of Highway to Hell the show came to and end. Jan told us Ellen ten Damme is already fan of his label and we’re pretty sure more celebs are soon to follow.

The backstage-setting at Edith & Ella was as colorful as the show. Hair and beauty reminded us of the good old Brigitte Bardot-days, French, feminie and a bit naughty.

Impressions of AIFW SS2012 Day 4

This was Day 4 of Amsterdam International Fashion Week edition SS2012. Highlights of yesterday were the Frank-show which turned out to be a guerilla-action of Zeeman, the Quoc Thang show and the cheerful show of  the Danish label Edith & Ella. It was also the day that the Green Fashion Competition took off.

Again the rain kept people busy yesterday at the Amsterdam International Fashion Week. After such a beautiful friday, it was hard to believe we wouldn’t see the sun at all on saturday. But people still found ways to dress up for their visit to the fashionshows.

What better way to spend your Saturday night than to go and see a fashion show? The front row of Edith & Ella was full of fashion lovers and journalists who seemed to love the Scandinavian fashion designed by Line Markvardsen. Check out the people we spotted front row.

On Saturday eve Danish designer Line Markvardsen showed her new summer collection Epoque from her label Edith & Ella at the Amsterdam Fashion Week. A fun, sweet, trendy and wearable collection, which the audience really seemed to like.

The colors of the collection, inspired by the desert, changed from gold, beige and brown to pink, blue and red. Looks were pretty clean, like you’d expect from a Scandinavian designer. But there was still room left for fun details like large buttons, strings, polka dot prints, lines, cherry details and belts.

All models (with the best hairdo ever) looked comfortable in their loose fitting jumpsuits, chique blouses, sophisticated flared pants, playful shorts and cute little skirts. Themes ranged from seventies to seventies to sailor and everything in between.

Some of the items maybe felt a little too doll-ish, but there were many cute outfits Dutch women would love to wear.
