This afternoon the news came through Anna Piaggi has passed at the age of 81. Apart from her contributions to magazine like Vogue, La Settimana Incom, Epoca, Linea Italiana, Annabella, Panorama, and L’Espresso we will mostly remember her for her eccentric fashion style.

Never a dull moment
We took her picture numerous times, on the streets of Milan and Paris and front row at all the big fashion shows. She stood out with her extraordinary clothing, her colored locks, red cheeks and funky hats. She was an icon to designers like Karl Lagerfeld and Manolo Blahnik, yet she inspired many others. Anna and Iris Apfel (two ladies with definite Advanced Style) even seemed to be the muses of upcoming season´s eccentric trend.

Let´s take a look at the style of this inspirational fashion writer. R.I.P. Anna Piaggi.

Quilted jackets, tweed suits, leather boots and jodhpurs; dressing like the English Elite was never this fashionable. Designers, from Burberry and Lacoste to Ralph Lauren and MaxMara all reinterpreted these country classics.

Done is earthy tones like army green, beige, camel and brown the traditionally tailored designs made up for some wearable looks topped off by tweed hats and knee high riding boots.

While more classic brand like Tommy Hilfiger, Lacoste and Ralph Lauren stayed on the save side; brands like Burberry and Chloé experimented with shapes and materials to create modern countryside looks that would work excellent in the city’s streets.

Trend Report Fall/Winter 2012/2013: Ginormous bags

Remember the tiny designer bags in which we could barely put a set of keys and a cell phone at the same time? Well they’ve gone for good (ehh..for a few seasons). This fall it’s all about the ginormous bags.

According to Alexander Wang, DKNY, Chloé, Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs having to fit all your items in one bag is no longer a concern. What you need to start worrying about is the risk of packing way too much. Because the big fall/winter bags seem large enough for an entire weekend break.

We couldn’t be more excited. Now we just need to learn how to pack efficiently and neat, so we’re not searching and grabbing for our keys for over half an our.

Trend Report Fall/Winter 2012/2013: Funky Sweaters

Forget those Nordic printed knitted sweaters we’ve seen the last couple of years; upcoming fall it’s all about the cool printed ones. And the crazier the print, the more popular the sweater, so it seems…

Balenciaga introduced multiple versions of a space printed jumper, while Humberto Leon and Carol Lim created a tiger printed sweater for Kenzo. We spotted horses at Altazurra and a spooky creature at Diesel. Jeremy Scott and Asish took it even further by showing knitted smileys and Bart Simpson tops. Add a few outstanding graphic prints from brands like Sportmax, Moschino and Stella McCartney and you’re sure there will never be a dull moment this fall… fashion wise, that is.

Trend Report Fall/Winter 2012/2013: Hourglass chic

As a result of last season’s peplum hype this fall it is all about the accentuated waistline again. At Etro and Dior we still spotted some gorgeous peplums, yet other brands (Oscar de la Renta, Salvatore Ferragamo, Prada, Rodarte) created the same hourglass effect by  belting tops, jackets and even big winter coats.

This brings the waistbelt back in the picture after a few years of absence. And guess what, it’s getting bigger again. Sonia Rykiel and Victoria Beckham may still have opted for smaller belts, yet as seen at Michael Kors, Yves Saint Laurent (Saint Laurent Paris), Acne and Fendi big belts are back. Wear yours in a shade matching your outfit and create that elegant super feminine figure.

This was Amsterdam Fashion Week, 17th edition

We think this edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week was a well-organized ad sizzling edition. With interesting designers, wonderful shows and a creative vibe. Almost 20.000 visitors came to the Westergasfabriek to meet and watch each other and see the shows of Bas Kosters, Lichting 2012, Tony Cohen and Sjaak Hullekes, a.o. Although you have to be there to experience the atmosphere, we’ve tried to capture it in images.

Elise Kim & Edwin Oudshoorn Amsterdam Catwalk Fashion Show SS2013

Elise Kim
During our preview interview Elise Kim already told us about all the hard work that had gone in here collection. Remember she said each one of her show dresses had taken up about 300 hours of work? Well all that hard work certainly paid of. It was a great show, perfect for the closing night of the Amsterdam Fashion Week.

Twenties inspired dresses made out of tons of the tiniest beads dazzled the audience as they danced to every movement the models made. Silhouettes were quite minimalistic and boxy, but it were all the extra’s that turned the designs into showstoppers. Like the beads, the (twenties) feathers and the gorgeous lace accents. The mix of all different materials (sheer, shiny, lace, leather) made the collection extra special.

When the black had turned into white, bright turquoise, green and white again it was time for a grande finale. Slick men dressed up in suits accompanied the twenties ladies on stage and created an glorious cinematic setting. Wow.

Edwin Oudshoorn
The Edwin Oudshoorn fashion show started with a little red haired girl appearing from a backdrop filled with bushes and flowers. Then came on the models dressed in richly styled embroidered ensembles walking to a slow song singing “Forget your troubles come on get happy”. Floor sweeping gowns were attached to nude shaded bodies with floral embroideries. Halfway the show the tempo of the music was turned up a bit and the show got a sudden circus vibe. Checks were introduced and models got colored hairlocks for a happier vibe. Then the music went slow again and long colored dresses added some extra drama to the show. Combined with the show’s backdrop the final dress, an hourglass shaped design, made up for a wonderful last fashion image. Amsterdam Fashion Week is finished. It’s a wrap everybody!

It was a smooth sailing operation backstage at Tony Cohen.

Frontrow at Tony Cohen AFW SS2013

That was maybe the fullest frontrow this fashionweek at Tony Cohens show this afternoon. Young teenagers, grand old ladies, singers and editors. They enjoyed a good show.

Backstage at Allan Vos & Nata Ryzh AFW SS2013

There is always a lot to see  backstage, hairdressers and their sprays and brushes, make-up artists with their lipstick and pencils. And the models, waiting patiently as always.
