Jonathan Christopher Homme made his debut yesterday at Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam, and so did Dutch stand-up comedian Jandino Asporaat. Since Jonathan Christopher made his wedding-suit he is fan of this label. It’s fresh, sexy and tough said Asporaat. And so was the collection Jonathan Christopher Homme presented yesterday, a mix of tough streetwear and sportswear and slick menswear classics.
Ready to Fish Fashion Week Amsterdam FW2014
After having presented her work on all kinds of impressive locations (like Het Rijksmuseum, her own store at the Prinsengracht) Ilja Visser returned to the Amsterdam Fashion Week today. She kicked off the evening schedule with her Ready to Fish by Ilja show. For fall Ilja served us a great variety of casual wear with just the right amount of edge. Well known model Yfke Sturm opened the show in an all black casual meets business attire, her hair combed backwards, hands in her pockets. She set the mood for what was about to follow. Ultra comfortable, loose fitting pieces that can take you from the office to a late dinner within seconds. Transparent looks (like a raincoat) and details stood out, as well as a few bright green pieces and several graphic printed details. Skirts were long, tops were loose. A chic, completely camel colored look certainly made some jaws drop in the audience, as did a structured, all grey piece that formed the ultimate mix of both a dress and a coat. Finished at the office? And done with dinner? You can even hit a party in these looks. As a matter of fact, the brand is organizing an impressive afterparty tonight. Are you ready to par..err ..fish?

David Laport made his debut at the catwalk of FashionWeek Nederland with a strong, beautiful and fragile collection based on the different sides of flowers – from full bloom to withered. Colors were bright and sunny, with lots of white, organge and yellow. His signature pleats adding a young elegance and contemporary character to the clothes.
Kathryn Milan Fashion Week Amsterdam FW2014
After Francisco van Benthum we jumped into our Mercedes and drove up to the city center of Amsterdam. There fashion label Kathryn Milan, a newcomer on the official schedule, presented it’s f/w collection. Since it was a client show instead of a press show the vibe was totally different from that at the Gashouder (the official show venue). Dapper gents and well dressed, prosperous ladies attended the collection presentation. They adoringly glazed at the label’s silk and satin creations (blouses, dresses and even a jumpsuit), coats with leather details (on the collars and the cuffs), tweed skirt suits and all kinds of glittery embroideries. Models got an elegant, wealthy allure through their perfect updos and chic jewelry. The closing black evening gown with an outstanding beaded collar truly was a show piece on the womenswear side, as a double breasted, woolen trenchcoat was a definite showstopper on the label’s menswear department. Designer David L. Turner gracefully walked his catwalk during the finale of the show, receiving a big applause from his attending loyal clientele.
Jef Montes Fashion Week Amsterdam FW2014
A burning, spinning communion candle as a backdrop; Artez graduate Jef Montes again (like with his 2012 graduation collection) seemed inspired by religion. He immediately caught everyone’s attention as he kicked off his show with a model pouring two ‘candles’ of indigo paint over her white dress. What followed was a mix of blue and white wet-looking creations with matching head pieces. Impressive were the shiny designs, created out of satin duchesse and hand painted fibre glass. And even though the fit of the designs (robes) was loose and structured beautiful, colorful, cross-shaped embroideries added a touch of refinement to the Illuminosa collection. The first official fashion week collection for Jef and most certainly not the last one.
Jan Boelo Fashion Week Amsterdam FW2014
You don’t have to undress to be sexy was Jan Boelos message tonight. And indeed, he didn’t show a lot of skin. There was no need to. His male and female models rocked his autumn designs nonetheless. Walking the show on flat boots, fully dressed; how surprisingly comfortable! Long knitted skirts with loose cardigans and leather lace up gloves for the girls. Tailored jackets, leather pants and dito gloves for the lads. A series of strong metallic pieces, heavy leather, some linnen even as well as a bit of black sheerness. No full volume rock music this time; a live band beautifully performed two songs on stage. The models walked much slower (than we’re used to at Boelo) too, but there was just as much energy in the show area (those front row celeb guests might have something to do with that too). A big applause at the end for the Groningen-based designer who is doing so well. This, more commercial collection, will sure score too once it hits the stores (including Boelos new selling point Azurro in Amsterdam) in half a year.
Francisco van Benthum FashionWeek Amsterdam FW2014
Francisco van Benthum formed a perfect start of our Friday evening. He presented us with a strong, cohesive, masculine collection (titled CON-STRUCT), which had a little something for every men with a desire to look fashion minded yet not too trendy. Socker scarves and socks worn with slippers; Francisco’s models might have been dressed up as fashion hooligans, they looked stylish nevertheless. In a color palette of red, white, black and grey all fall/winter musthaves made their appearance. Sportive and tough bomber jackets, trenchcoats, pleated pants, leather sweaters, crispy white shirts and structured sweaters paired with super small ties, black suits, double breasted coats; they were all there with a special focus on outerwear. All perfectly tailored, color coordinated and styled. As the collection build up, the music got stronger too. Graffiti prints popped up on several items. ‘Stop the repression choose freedom’ was Francisco’s message, but even without his call for freedom his clothes had more than enough to say. The story of well dressed men ready to hit the office, a family get together, a fancy party or just the streets of any global city.
Atelier MariaLux FashionWeek Amsterdam FW2014

Atelier MariaLux is the name of the label of designer Lilian Driessen. Her Fall/Winter 2014 collection was inspired by Coco Chanel and her opinion regarding feelings and dressing according to that. The most aspiring quote in the press-release was: “You only live but once so you might as well be amusing”.
The collection had a slightly vintage feeling with classics like the deux pieces, smoking-costumes and unstructured dresses. The vibe was casual, luxurious and elegant with a bohemien touch.
A live-band with different singers and musicians played a new version of Cry me a River, an evergreen. To seal a good memory of the show Lilian Driessen gave all guests a sample of her perfume. She surely succeeded!
