They’re a nightmare if you wear them while riding a bike, but other than that the maxi skirt is one of the greatest fashion pieces we’ve seen in years. It has been around for two or three seasons now and it seems like we still haven’t had enough of it. More and more colors and styles are popping up. So besides black we now have bold colors and prints too. And instead of sheer skirts girls are wearing denim and velour versions. We expect the maxi skirt to stay at least throughout this winter, ’cause it can easily be worn with thick tights to keep you warm.
Here you can find our top 5 of maxi skirts we photographed during fashion week.
If you’re still figuring out what kind maxi skirt would be nice, take a look at the gallery below.

For years they were assumed to be dull and old fashioned, but thanks to designers like Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney polka dots are top notch again. A year ago wearing a polka dot dress might have been a woman’s worst nightmare, now all girls want to get their hands on this fabulous print. Dresses, skirts, bags and even tights with polka dots on them have become the it-items of this fall/winter.
The good thing about it is: you will never have enough. Besides the blouse you’ll need a skirt, tights, scarf and even shoes with polka dots. Plus, after you’ve collected all the classic shades (blue, black, white, red) you can always start to collection the less obvious colors like neon, purple and orange.

To top it off more and more Dutch bloggers are going abroad to attend shows and to be captured by the growing number of streetstyle photogs.
We had a blast shooting all the ‘Dutchies’ in the streets of Milan, Paris and New York. Especially the bloggers were a joy to look at and immediately became the main target of the fashion paparazzi.
In the gallery below you can take a look at the trendy editors, bloggers and models from the Netherlands. You’ll spot our top models Saskia de Brauw and Daphne Groeneveld. You’ll see the editors from ELLE, Glamour, NRC and Het Parool. Plus, you can check the looks of bloggers Linda & Niels, Sabrina and Yara.
Musthaves Winter 2011/2012

There are a few things every woman should definitely have this winter. Some are more basic than others, but if you’re fashion girl these items are a necessity. They’re fashionable enough to be completely on trend. Yet there also simple enough to be able to mix & match them with items from your own wardrobe.
Our Winter Musthave list contains the following items:
A warm coat can become your best friend in winter. Make sure you buy one that keeps you warm, can last throughout the winter season and is stylish as well.
The minimalistic trend is still hot in fashion land. Make sure you get your hands on the simplest dress you can find and you’ll look effortlessly chic.
A great item to make a fashion statement and a great solution to a bad hair day too. Fedora of Floppy, choose your favorite!
Youthful & innocent; that’s the look you get when wearing a sixties dress. Opt for a version with checks and, if you dare, a Peter Pan collar.
You don’t have to be a bondage fan to pull of this look. Just opt for a cool black leather piece (jacket, dress) and style it in your own way.
(Fake) Fur is hot every winter, yet this time around it’s more colorful and playfull than ever before. If a coat’s too much, just opt for a vest or stola.
The jewel tones, introduced by Gucci, are the colors of this season. Emerald, Citrine, Amethyst or Ruby; pick your favorite!
As if they don’t have enough for their selves this winter the ladies are still borrowing from their men’s wardrobe. A cool masculine suit never goes too waste.
Stella and Marc nailed the polka dot trend with their f/w collections and now we all want to get our hands on this trend. You can see it on dresses, sweaters, skirts and even on tights. Sexy!
Wishlist
Don’t have enough curves of your own? Fake it with a round shaped dress or a jacket with puffy arms. Some shiny version might be your best option.
The forties are back, which means skirt lengths have dropped a few inches. This winter you wear your pencil skirt below the knee.
And while skirts are getting longer, necklaces are supposed to be short. The choker probably is your best option and the coolest way to wear it is over a blouse.
You eather love it or hat it, but busy prints are one of the big trends this winter. Wear multiple prints in one look if you’re a real daredevil.
Wintertrend: Foxy Furs

You either hate or love it, but the fur-trend is definitely back this season if we ask the great designers. Even the dullest outfits looked luxurious with a touch of warm hair (fake or real). There’s only one major difference compared to other years: this season it’s more about the details.
Fur has been seen on many catwalks like Gucci, Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors, Alexander McQueen and Donna Karan. But everyone is working this trend in a different way. A handful of designers went for the glamorous and sexy look, with front runner Gucci. Frida Giannini went for an over the top 70’s glamour look which made everyone greedy. Every outfit was topped off with furs in different colors, like turquoise, yellow ochre and emerald green. That same extravagant appearance was spotted at Jean Paul Gaultier, with luxurious looking furs on the coats trim and waist. There was even a model wearing a white fox over her shoulder, shocking! Funny detail, even the grandma trolleys were covered with fur.
Other designers went for a more subtle look, with fur only on the collar or sleeves, like Dries van Noten and Max Mara.

Wintertrend: Tasteful Texture

This winter it’s all about texture. Mohair, leather, linen, lace, lamé, bouclé, python, illusion, iridescent, wool, chiffon, fur, cotton.. you name it, we’ve seen it. All these different fabrics were mixed, twisted, twirled and patched together which resulted in very fierce en exciting looks.
And no, it doesn’t mean you immediately need to wear some striking pieces. Even a little texture detail can make an outfit pop out. Like we saw at the Céline show. The turtlenecks looked so simple and modern, but the leather strokes gave it just that little more élan. And there were more designers exploring this trend, like Jean Paul Gaultier with trenches in half leather, half wool scuba fabric. Or American Sweetheart Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton. He combined soft chiffon dresses with leather belts or shiny leather jackets with big furry sleeves. The public loved it.
There was one designer who took this trend through the roof: Balenciaga’s Nicolas Ghesquière. He showed us bomber jackets, gilets and scarves made from thick braided leather. It looked really heavy and strong. They were combined with soft, feminine and colorful painted skirts. But the contrast worked so well.
As you can see, with this trend you can take it as far as you like. Don’t be afraid to experiment a little!

Streetstyle Trend: Show some skin

Sexy and daring or subtle and sophisticated: transparent fabrics, we’ve seen them everywhere during the fashion weeks and now the fashion crowd is taking over. From see-through tops and blouses to chiffon dresses and long tulle skirts.
Transparent fabrics often have something delicate en soft, but the good thing is you can do everything with it to give it a whole different look, which results in many diverged and interesting looks on the street. For instance Olivia Palermo. She knows how to nail a trend and always does it in her own elegant, lady-like way. Like this black dress. The little print on the sleeves make her look like a sexy, almost Italian woman.
But transparent doesn’t always need to be very chic. You can also go for a more cool downtown look, like the neon colored dress. The black bra en skirt underneath give it an even more edgy and playful feel to it. Or go like Giovanna Battaglia for a sporty dress, like the one from Ohne Titel.
Off course there is only one person who rocks this trend on full force: Anna Dello Russo. As you can see she is wearing a beautiful Stella McCartney dress, which reveals almost half of her body. She’s definitely not afraid to show some skin.
