Esther Dorhout Mees showed her seventh collection at Fashion Week Amsterdam. The collection ‘Passage’ consists of powerful designer pieces with organic forms in contrast with sharply hard contours. The underlying inspiration is the parallel with our human life. Mees merges apparent contradictions in a perfect symbiosis. Smooth and shiny fabrics are gracefully combined with rough textures. Even cracks in trees are reflected in the pattern pieces. The clean, straight lines of pants and tops contrast with voluminous folds and flowing dresses. In the knitwear we see this vulnerability and strength woven into each piece.

Ratna Ho Catwalk Fashion Show FW14

The all women band Krach playing in the right corner of the Transformatorhuis set the mood for the show. Then diverse models – some a little older than others, others a little more voluptuous – showed Ratna Ho’s f/w collection. A mix of straight silhouettes with ruffled, curly accents, sheer fabrics with thick, structured linings and robe detailing. Sheer black dresses were given a tropical colorful touch by those details. Dresses that would have looked common otherwise, yet now appeared luxurious and original, exclusive yet wearable and, not to mention, a little sexy. The transparent bags had the same detailing as the dresses and the surprising mix of straight and curly was even translated into the models’ hairdos. Ratna’s humor was definitely visible in the collection, but that doesn’t mean those clothes aren’t suitable for doing some serious business…

Tony Cohen Fashion Week Amsterdam FW2014

If there’s one designer that knows how to deliver consistently it’s Tony Cohen. Tonight he presented his fall/winter collection that lived up to our expectations and managed to be surprising as well. Overall the silhouette was long, lean and asymmetric and the color palette dark; Cohen’s signature. Looks were created out of the perfect mix of textures… lots of leather, pieces of knitwear, some airy accents and silver details. A full on green ensemble looked impressive and some of the floor sweeping numbers definitely made an impact too. Pleated pants and oversized, structured blouses and long skirts with high slits looked cool and chic at the same time. Black leather gloves and filt hats added to the coolness of the looks. (filt) Hats off for Tony, for coming up with another strong and steady collection.

SuperTrash Catwalk Fashion Show FW2014

Saturday night MaryMe JimmyPaul was the closing show of the official MBFWA schedule, but the party wasn’t over yet.. Powerwoman Olcay Gulsen and her SuperTrash team invited us (the press), the retailers and a bunch of celebs to Sugar City, an old factory just outside Amsterdam, which was turned into the SuperTrash galaxy for one night. Here Olcay presented her fall/winter collection ‘Big Bang!’ With a focus on ‘The Rise of Women’.

It took over an hour to get most people seated in the Sugar City and there weren’t even enough seats for the enormous crowd. A large white ball hanging from the ceiling and a big white runway created not only that galaxy setting, but gave the show some international appeal too. It almost felt like a small Chanel show with it’s large props.

Supermodel Bregje Heinen brought even more of that international feeling to the evening as she opened the show in a winter white look. The white, cream, silver and shiny looks that followed all had a clear futuristic touch to them, matching the show’s theme. Helmets and other types of crazy head gear (with Micky Mouse ears, antlers and horns) added to that feeling, as did enormous pieces of metallic jewelry.

Like always at SuperTrash the show was divided into different themes. After the light and the white, came a black section, followed by deep blue and brown. An impressive collection with a little bit of everything for everyone, which just looked right on the runway and will look just as good once those SuperTrash fans get their hands on it.

Never mind Olcay almost stumbling at the end..for the rest of the night (and with free drinks for all guests that night lasted quite a while) there was only one word on everyone’s lips.. SuperTrash which closed the evening with a bang!
