D&G Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2011

The D&G invite appeared to be a big hint on the theme for the actual fashion show. It had a colorful floral print and a little envelope with actual (floral) seeds in it. So when we arrived at D&G the whole show area was filled with the most beautiful flowers. It was as if we had ended up in a fairytale, but in fact it was D&G’s spectacular Garden Party.
Hurts’ Wonderful life came out of the speakers as the models came on to the runway. The fact that they wore floral prints too came as no surprise, in fact the floral prints were the main aspect of the collection.
There were floral prints in every variation you could think of. They came by on tops, floor-sweeping dresses, jumpsuits, overalls and shorts, alternated by red and white picnic cloth checks and some images of Disney’s Snow White.
Several lace outfits popped up too, as well as some patent red leather. Shoes with flowers around the ankles and headscarves, gardening gloves and tools completed the fresh-looking summer collection.
And just when we though it was over Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce sent all their models out on the runway wearing ultra-feminine, long, airy, floral printed, seventies dresses, each with a different print and color. A perfect bohemian-chic ending of a great garden party full of romantic, yet playful designs.
Fendi Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2011

Last season was all about the fifties and sixties and their feminine Mad Men-inspired looks. Now, just one season later, Fashion Week is all about the seventies. It started last week in New York with Marc Jacobs and Anna Sui and this week the seventies were all over the place at Gucci and Fendi.
The two Italian fashion houses not only promoted the style from the same period, they also showed their designs in the same color palette, existing of turquoise, orange, purple and blue.
Harem pants and tops with puffy sleeves were combined with bright waist belts. When Karl Lagerfeld added 3-tone belts, shoes and bags the color blocking theme was complete.
Still there were some graphic prints too and some of the first outfits were white dresses with a remarkable burning passion cut flame print. Just like we saw at Alberta Ferretti the Fendi show had asymmetrical dresses (with just one sleeve) in it as well. We didn’t necessarily love them immediately, yet by the time it’s summer again we certainly will.
Overall the collection looked glamorous and, apart from the high heels, very wearable. We got a feeling fashion is going to be so relaxed next year.

Dutch model Daphne Groeneveld is one of the New Faces of this season. The 16-year old girl with the pouting lips is now popping up everywhere. On the first day of Milan Fashion Week she walked in the Gucci show. Right after she walked out of that show all cameras were pointed at her as you can see in the short clip below. We’re for sure we’re going to hear a lot more from this pretty girl.
Sportmax Catwalk Fashion Show Milan 2011

The Sportmax fashion show on the second day of Milan Fashion Week had something in it for every woman. The many outfits represented looks that were chic, sharp and sexy. Or like the show notes said ‘A new elegance inspired by the petite parisienne of ‘Les demoiselles de Rochefort’.
The bright colors and playful dresses from that specific sixties movie were indeed visible throughout the whole collection. Lemon yellow, red, magenta and white being the main shades, alternated by several denim looks.
There was a lot of variation in fabric and shape. Patent leather coats and blouse collars were mixed with romantic lace-like fabrics, organza and crepe de chine. The dresses were A-line shaped as well as body-tight (with cutouts) and always ended above the knee.
On several transparent dresses and tops small butterflies were attached. They looked graceful and perfect for summer, yet also reminded us of the Claes Iversen collection we saw three weeks ago in Holland. The Dutch designer had butterflies all over his dresses as well. So that might just be the next big fashion trend…
The show ended with some sequined looks and a few designs with colorful graphic prints. It was not the most cohesive Sportmax collection we’ve seen, but there’s no doubt the modern woman won’t find anything she likes for upcoming summer.
Tess: grocery shopping
Lisa and I just went to the small Supermarket around the corner to get some groceries. Just some healthy snacks like tomatoes, apples, bananas and lots of water to make it through the day.
Alberta Ferretti Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2011

Just like a lot of the collections we saw the last two weeks Alberta Ferretti today showed very relaxed and comfortable designs in her show. Her long dresses were loose-fitting and airy so the models moved very gracefully in them. The Italian designer herself told the press she was reinventing femininity and feminine is one thing the designs definitely were.
The floor-sweeping lace and chiffon gowns felt a little bohemian/hippie chic. Especially with the long, messy hair of the models, some of the straw hats and the sandals that were shown. Besides, nature-inspired prints of plants and birds added to the free spirited feeling of the whole collection.
Apart from the (several asymmetric) dresses Alberta also introduced a few knitted sweaters, pleated miniskirts, coats and braided belts. In light pastel shades it all fit very well together and made up for a wonderful, feminine spring collection.
