Versace Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2011

It was clear Donatella Versace wasn’t into the seventies theme for her spring collection. Unlike at other big shows this week, at Versace there was not an airy, long, loose dress in sight. In stead Donatella opted for body-tight designs and stayed very true to the key aspects of the Versace brand.

The models looked fierce in their tight-fitting pencil skirts and dresses which stood out because of their multiple cutouts in so many places. Shades of blue, red, white and black were used for the looks and were even combined in several graphic prints.

Big pockets and large buttons were placed on a few skirts and jackets. They didn’t look very flattering. Yet towards the end the designs became more gracefull as goddess gowns with tight bodies and loose fringes at the bottom concluded the show.

Etro Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2011

At Etro champagne, brownies, and colorful pillows on our seats set the right mood for the show. Yet the clothes itself already told a great story.

That story started with a high waisted pair of floral trousers and a black & white zig zag printed top. Then Etro’s famous paisley print came by on a t-shirt dress, followed by airy top with open shoulders.

There were asymmetrical halter dresses, slim tunics, silk pants, color blocking shorts and printed pant suits. Some tops and dresses had the shape of handkerchief and seemed to be made out of just one square piece of beautiful printed fabric.

Several outfits were a combination of two prints, yet created the illusion of one piece. Their earthy tones and popping brights (flag green, turquoise, coral) shades matched perfectly. They added to the whole seventies vibe of the show.

Apart from the prints much attention was paid to decorating the looks as well. We loved the jackets embroidered with tribal patterns, the tunic dresses with black and white beading, the bags with scarf pattern, the wood platform sandals and the jewellery.

The models looked comfortable and chic. And since the seventies are officially one of the biggest trends for next spring, we’ve got a feeling this Etro collection will become a big hit.

Moschino Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2011

At Moschino every look that came down the runway was screaming for attention. Hats, turban scarves, golden jewellery, large sunglasses, bows worn with blouses, belts, shoes tied around the ankles and big bracelets. Not to mention the clothes itself, with their had eye-catching prints and golden embellishments. All items got Rosella Jardini’s full attention.

The show started off in the same style as last year. Models wore hats combined with scarves and white blouses with black bows. Yet soon the new prints came on; big red & white stripes, black & white Vichy checks, flowers and loads of large polka dots.

Some looks felt a bit navy-inspired, due to their colors and prints. A few double breasted jackets and nautical rings were in that style as well.

As in last collection their was a lot of gold. It was used to decorate some of the skirts and jackets and the jewellery (necklaces with tassel tips, chain belts, Lily of Florence earrings and big bracelets) was made from it. Yet the golden rings we saw on some jackets last season had made way for pearls this time. Big faux pearls, that is.

You can imagine it was hard for us to focus on this over the top collection. There were definitely some great elements, yet it was all a little too much.

So, if you’re planning on wearing some of the looks, try to keep it simple. Wearing one or two eye-catching items is just fine.

Prada Catwalk Fashion Show Milan SS2011

After seasons full of nudes and black & white all designers are opting for vivid, strong colors now. Miuccia Prada too joint the big color-blocking trend. She chose bright orange, green and blue as the main shades of her surprising show.

Their was no sign left of her popular feminine Mad Men clothes, Miuccia Prada went in, yet again, a whole new direction.

The first few models she sent out on the runway wore plain dresses in just one color. They carried bags and pieces of bright colored fur stoles in their hands and wore the craziest goggle-like glasses. The ones without glasses had silver-colored eyeshadow on and all of them had this thirties-inspired waved hairstyle (only this time with two buns at the back).

The models’ shoes (brogues and wedges in three different colored layers) were as eye-catching as the glasses and sure were the hype of the evening.

But there was much more… Big bold stripes appeared after several looks. They were there on the clothes, bags and fur stoles. Later they were even combined with other prints, like a banana-print, which in fact looked Ba-na-nas too. Also Dutch model Daphne Groeneveld appeared on the runway in a dress with the print of an African woman with a pineapple on her head. And to continue the South America spirit Mexican hats were introduced.

Miuccia said she wanted to do something between minimal and Baroque, something fun, bold and brave. She herself called it exaggerated simplicity, but we would rather just call it exaggerated. Yet no matter how over the top it all might have looked, there will definitely be some trends in this collection, which are going to be picked up all over the world. That’s just how it works with Prada.
