Miu Miu Catwalk Fashion Show Paris ss2012

The Miu Miu show opened with a confusing series of clothes that reminded of schooluniforms, drabby colors, basis skirts and shirts. Was this the same Miucca Prada who’d sent out this strong, and happy collection two weeks ago in Milan? But it was part of the show, which build the collection slowly, piece by piece, fabric by fabric, color by color.
The schooluniform was the basis (A-line silhouette, simple shirts), color, lace, frivolous accessories added along the way more festivity to the clothes. Like Cinderella getting ready for the ball.
Louis Vuitton Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2012

A carousel with 48 horses filled the Louis Vuitton stage on the last day of Paris fashion week. On each horse was a model, including miss Kate Moss, who apparently asked Marc Jacobs if she could be part of the show herself.
All girls were dressed in super sweet pastel colored looks with lace details. They looked girly and ladylike at the same time, combining cute white colors with parts of sheerness.
Skirts were right at knee-length, (crocodile leather) jackets and (fully buttoned) blouses all had 7/8 sleeves. Every lace flower, appliquéd rosette, button and zipper was perfection. Silver colored shoes, tiara’s and lace umbrella’s seemed like the perfect touch to Jacobs’ sun kissed looks.
The rumor on Jacobs leaving Vuitton for was Dior not be discussed and the show didn’t indicate anything in any direction either. So rumors can continue on, it just would be a damn shame if we would have to miss out on these kind of fairytale-like shows.

Alexander McQueen Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2012

Although Sarah Burton wanted to celebrate femininity and womanhood with her collection for Alexander McQueen it also brought a strong fetishistic vibe to life. That was because of the strong curbes and (beautifully made) masks. It was pretty and sometimes romanticwith hint of lingerie. There was just one silhouette: a small bodice, tiny waist, tight skirt flounced or godeted at the hem for flirtatious walking.
Valentino Catwalk Fashion Show Paris ss2012

It was their best Valentino collection so far. Piccioli and Chiuri keep on getting better at their job. For spring/summer they came up with the most beautiful collection of lace, embroidered, floral printed dresses.
They presented a perfect picture; romantic, sophisticated, fairy tale like. With looks most women dream of. “Fashion is a dream, and in this moment we need dreams,” were Piccioli’s words before the show.
Dresses were the perfect mix of short & cute and floor sweeping & romantic. The models waists were highlighted by thin belts, which together with the accentuated shoulders created the perfect silhouette. Flat sandals and loose French braids completed the fantasy look.
Perhaps the dresses were all a little too perfect for our everyday lives. But if we don’t buy them, there sure will be more than enough A-lister (like front rower Jessica Biel) to strut around in them at some fancy premiere party.
Chanel Catwalk Fashion Show Paris ss2012

It was a poetic Chanel-show. Especially after the dark, gloomy autumn show half a year ago. Is Karl Lagerfeld looking at the bright side of life again? His imaginary underwater world surely made the audience forget there is a serious financial crisis going on in the real world.
Lagerfeld changed the typical commercial and somewhat safe Chanel-look into a sporty one, with silver shoes, conch-shaped heels, a stripped Chanel-suit where the chains were replaced by pearls and he introduced modern fabrics, like the transparent plastic jacket over a swimsuit. For evening there we light lacy and mesh dresses. It was amazing what he did with his element of inspiration, the pearl – one of the Chanel-icons. Not only the colors, also the way fabrics looked, the accessories, the make up.
Florence Welch was the guest-performer, hidden in a gigantic shell where she sang her siren-song. Mysterious and magical.

Yves Saint Laurent Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2012

Hats off for Stefano Pilati, who managed to send out a full summer collection under the circumstances (the rumors about him being replaced by Raf Simons, that is).
And it didn’t even disappoint. Luxurious materials were used for clothes with couture-like volumes. The designs were distinctive, sophisticated and detailed, but never had too much going on.
Above the knee skirts and silk tops were decorated by large ruffles. Gorgeous halter necklines (on tops and dresses) popped up throughout the whole show. A simple idea, worked out perfectly.
Some beautiful busy prints were presented in between the color palette of aqua, blue, teal, white , black and purple. Looks were styled off with hip belts, golden hair accessories and show stopping shoes, which the audience just could not stop talking about.
So is Pilati really leaving YSL? It would be a loss to the brand, today’s show (which he nailed) sure proved that.
