Tess van Zalinge Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week

Oversized suits meet lingerie; Friday night Tess van Zalinge treated us to her collection filled with Dutch history. Tess collaborated with Royal Delft, which lead to Delfts Blauw and The girl with the pearl earring influences being visible throughout the collection. A collection which formed a certain clash between what is functional and what is sensual. And so we saw the tightest body suits and sheer white tops come down the runway as well as a floor sweeping coat and structured jackets. Knitting, folding, weaving and laser cutting were some of the techniques used for this collection. Beautiful were the origami style peplums, especially a royal blue one paired with some wide legged pants looked strong and contemporary. Designs were covered in some exclusive Delfts Blauw prints and a faded marble print. Prints that formed the base of the collection’s color palette of blues and whites. From simple tops and blouses to skirts, dressed up pants, body suits and dream dresses; this collection had all the right ingredients. Items the audience is able to already buy, since Tess van Zalinge is – in line with the see now buy now trend – already selling her collection at X-Bank in Amsterdam. Go get it while it’s hot!

TRINHBECX Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week

Colorful, original, young and above all wearable would be the four words to describe the collection TRINHBECX presented us with. Sheer suits, oversized shirts with xl cuffs, trumpet pants and skirts, boxy tops, flared pants and sixties style zipper skirts were just some of the ingredients of this modern looking collection. The designers love for raw materials and their passion for craftsmanship especially shone through in some of the leather items (the skirts, the belts and the bags). And even though we could taste Tung Trinh and Tim Becx are relatively new to the game of designing professionally (they both just graduated in 2015) they’re certainly off to a great start.

ALEXANDRAFRIDA Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week

Inspired by the thousand and one night stories Alexandra Frida presented her fall/winter collection for 2017 this Friday night. It was Scheherazade, a mysterious, Persian queen who told her husband a story with an open ending every single night, Alexandra had in mind when designing. This lead to lots of layering and a focus on the colors black, gold and pink. Airy, lightweight fabrics such as silk and lace represented the queen’s sensual side, while leather harnesses and details such a knitted ruffles, embroideries and beads stood for Scheherazade’s power. Alexandra also brought back her iconic feather print, symbolizing wings that give women the strength and faith to chase their dreams. A collaboration with Eye Wish Opticiens lead to all models sporting a pair of glasses. Glasses given a fun fashion twist with some of Alexandra Frida’s impressive 3D printed glasses accessories. And as the sounds of Arabian wedding singing / screaming continued Scheherazade’s women strutted along. No finale of evening gowns and wedding dresses, but a catwalk show with and open end.

Saskia ter Welle Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week Debute

The toughest pilot girls walked the Saskia ter Welle ruway this afternoon. Perhaps not quite the image we had in mind when we were heading to a show evolved around embroideries. But this surprise was for the better. Saskia, who previously worked with Dutch designers like Jan Taminiau, Ilja Visser and Monique Collignon and who experienced her fashion week debut, managed to keep things interesting with her story about understated glamour in a modern day fairy tale. With designs that formed a contrast between the raw and roughness of natural materials and the glamour that comes with beads, sequins and Swarovski crystals. Modern Japanese pattern techniques combined with richly decorated haute couture embroideries. A contrast that led to exciting combinations in this collection about wearable luxury. A collection built from craftsmanship as not only the embroideries but the clothing too hade been created by hand by Saskia and her team at their workspace in Doesburg. Most members of that team and countless of Saskia’s relatives seemed to be at the show today as some fanatic cheering and a round of applause awaited the designer after the finale.

Future Generation presents The Painting Amsterdam Fashion Week

White on white on white.. The dresscode for the second show of the opening night was white. Not for the audience though, for the models. With the idea that everyday is a fresh start nine young designers (Ailene van Elmpt, Johannes Offerhaus, Liesbeth Sterkenburg, Marlou Breuls, Merel van Glabbeek, Sunanda Koning, TRINHBECX, Yoko Maja and Zyanya Keizer) presented their work. A clean slate, a fresh start in which we can write out our dreams, color with hope and shape with belief. Apart from their color palette, which was obviously limited, curator Peter Leferink gave them ‘carte blanche’. This led to very personal stories told by the nine talents brought together by hope, faith and love. Menswear looks covered in text, pleated and lace up womenswear designs, delicate and dreamy designs with beaded/sequins detailing, impressive knitwear pieces (even for little girls), kinky patent leather looks, arty head to toe creations and a couple of twin fashion ensembles. A diversified show concluded by a colorfully dressed choir singing John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ to a peace sign backdrop. And everything just fell into place.

Martan Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week Debute

Thursday night, 7 o ‘clock and a Gashouder filled with a fashion minded crowd awaited the start of a brand new Amsterdam Fashion Week. Fashion label Martan had the honour to present it’s debut collection during this opening night. A strong diversified and colourful collection of mens and womenswear looks inspired by religions and spirituality. Oversized pants, deconstructed tops as well as suits, asymmetric dresses and sweaters in which a spiral shape seemed a recurring theme. Worn in a modern, urban way, styled off with some strong heavy soled footwear and outstanding accessoires (big belts decorated with small key chains). Fluid and at times voluminous looks that portrayed a strong style message, but also spoke of freedom of spirituality. As a wide range of materials kept things interesting, the color palette of yellow, pastel pink, licht blue and camel brought extra positivity. A joyful collection and a debut that perfectly suited this opening night. A splendid start of this fashion filled week.
