Move over avocado, it’s time for the papaya to shine and take over as it-veggie! That is, if you leave it up to Fabienne Chapot and her design team. For SS2018 they decided it was all about papaya’s. An exotic story starting as soon as the guests received their papaya-themed invite. On Wednesday night the story unfolded at a show venue completely turned into a sixties style garden party. An entrance covered in papaya print and rainbow colored stairs sure got everyone in the mood for some cocktails, watermelon and jelly pudding. And as all guests took their seats a little later it really actually felt as if we were witnessing a Beverly Hills hotel scene from 1957 and we could almost feel the Hollywood heat (so those papaya printed fans on our seats came in handy).

Fashion wise the collection was everything you’d want a summer collection to be. Colorful, effortless and super feminine. Loose blouses, maxi dresses, wide pants and cropped jackets in the mix. Soft and silk fabrics were embroidered with papaya shaped beads, palm leaves, citrus shapes, lobsters and exotic flowers. Signature items which were even featured on the matching jacquard loafers. Silhouettes were flowy and sexy yet sophisticated, a uncovered shoulder here, a bare back there. Colorful high heels, statement bags (in the shape of tropical fish or shelves), bold sunnies and crazy hairdos topped it all off.

And as we headed back home we thought about that SS2018 Fabienne Chapot girl that got in her car, headed West and gazed outside. It might have been rainy in Amsterdam, but we imagined ourselves out on the warm open road at sundown, driving 60 miles per hour with all four windows down, feeling the wind in our hair and the Hollywood heat on our skin.

We’ve taken the Thalys back home again. Paris Fashion Week is a wrap. And what a week it was. A week filled with headlines and highlights. Ranging from genderbleding updates and power couple front row attendees (Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade) to the release of Drake’s new song ‘Signs’ during the Louis Vuitton Show. And from Dutch male model Sven de Vries making a name for himself (having walked 94 shows this season) to the absence of Givenchy and Saint Laurent. But of course we’re most concerned with the new collections and certain trends we can already look forward to for next year. From stacked up shoes and XL belts to eighties vibes, logomania and more. Let’s take a look at those, while we recap Paris Fashion Week Menswear SS2018.

Milan Fashion Week Menswear SS2018 – RECAP

It´s business as usual in Milan as the fashion train has moved on to Paris for the SS2018 menswear collections. But fashion professionals might have headed to the city of light, there´s still lots of Milan menswear to discuss. So let´s recap on one of the hottest fashion weeks we´ve experienced in a while.

Quite a few trends occurred in Milano. From unusual models to technology (Prada spoke of Virtual Reality while Armani introduced it’s brand new touchscreen smart watch) and from nineties influences to crazy head pieces and boiler suits, here are our Milan Fashion Week highlights.

1. Anyone can be a model
Garderners, convicts, musicians and social influencers were walking the runway in Milan. Canadian pop star (and millennial) Shawn Mendes closed the Emporio Armani show. Former prison inmate Jeremy Meeks walked the runway for Philipp Plein. A landscape gardener from Bulwell, Kai Taylor, took his chances as a Versace model. And of course Dolce & Gabbana formed an army of social influencers (including Raury who protested on the D&G runway).

2. Logomania
Big logo’s and brand names are still a thing and go hand in hand with the nineties revival trend (another gift that keeps on giving). And of course Dsquared, Dolce & Gabbana, Philipp Plein and Versace are the brands most likely to keep that logo look alive. And why shouldn’t they. The simplest branded T-shirts (like that sold-out-everywhere Gucci tee before and the VLTN T-shirt at Valentino now) are making those brands lotsss of money.

3. Boiler suits
Boiler suits, jumpsuits or just matching pants and shirts (that appear to be overalls) are about to become every guy’s go to look for upcoming summer. Workwear inspired, but not entirely suitable for the office.

4. Go shorty
Time to show off some leg boys. Short shorts are the new trend. Luckily for those in doubt there are still tons of shorts-options out there. Diesel paired it’s shorts with leggings, Marni offered a patchwork short, Dsquared suggested some leather boots underneath and at Emporio Armani the shorts were double layered. Long story short: there’s something out there for every man.

Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, Fendi and Emporio Armani

5. Hats off
Head pieces came through in all shapes and sizes. So what will it be? A velvet cap (Versace) a Dsquared beanie, Emporio Armani’s leather straps or the only hat fit for a social king, a Dolce & Gabbana crown? Pieces to make or break your summer 2018 outfit. Or at least drive your Instagram account into a frenzy.
