Trend Report SS2011: in his shirt

Wearing a men’s shirt can be even sexier than wearing the perfect LBD. So, when designers like Dries van Noten, Stella McCartney and Paul Smith worked the men’s shirt into their summer collections they made a smart move.

A men’s shirt doesn’t need any extra’s; it speaks for itself. Combined with a pair of pleated trousers or some cool jeans the shirt looks effortless chic. Take the ones we saw at Michael Kors, Margiela and Lacoste; could a woman look any more elegant in such basic pieces?

So leave your tailored, ruffled, printed blouses at home girls. The men’s shirt is all the rage these days….

Trend Report SS2011: the new denim

Wearing denim to a cocktail event might have been a no go for years, now you can look as chic in your jeans as you will in your LBD. ‘Cause the new denim is more sophisticated and classy then ever. Derek Lam, Stella McCartney and Dries van Noten showed some perfect examples of that. No skinny jeans there, but long, wide legged pants (and denim jackets, skirts, dresses and pants too!) So whatever event your attending; in this new denim you’ll look fabulous 7 days a week.

Apart from the ‘chic denim’ at Balmain we saw some rough looking examples for the punk/rock ‘n roll ladies as well. Yet we suppose wearing it classic like McCartney is the way to go.

Trend Report SS2011: Rock & Punk

Either you love it or you hate, but the punk look sure is a trend this summer. Think: short cut hair, lots of black, strong shoulders and metallic accents. Balenciaga, Balmain and Burberry all worked the Rock ‘n Roll/Punk trend on their catwalks. Their models looking fierce and a little boy-ish at times.

At Jean Paul Gaultier the models wore enormous pieces of metallic jewelry, at Burberry and Balmain spikes gave the looks some extra edge. Riccardo Tisci mixed Gothic and punk by presenting sheer black designs with lots op zippers.

If you’re the girly type of woman you might wanna pass on this trend. Yet for the ones who like it rough there’s plenty of rock ‘n roll fashion to choose from.

Here are some examples:

Trend Report SS2011: minimal effort, major success

This season too, you can look terrific without looking like you’ve spend hours in front of the mirror. Yes, we’re talking about the minimalistic look which is still a big trend in fashion. This season besides Chloe, Celine and Calvin Klein other brands have joined in on the fun as well. Derek Lam, Isabel Marant and Jil Sander all opted for the less is more look in their spring/summer collections.

And the great twist of this season is color. So after the minimalistic white, nude and black, there’s the minimal red, yellow, pink and even turquoise. The rest of the minimalistic rules remain the same though; clean cuts, no prints, straight lines and no extra fuzz (cutouts, frills, ruffles, bows etc).

Looking chic was never this easy…

Trend Report SS2011: It’s a jungle out here!

If you wanna buy fashion pieces that never go out of style you should – besides the LBD and the trenchcoat – invest in some animal prints. Season after season they’re a big trend on the runway, as well as on the streets.

In case you’re getting with the good old leopard print, there are plenty more animal-inspired prints on the market. Perhaps a Zebra dress (as seen at Louis Vuitton) or a snake skin jacket (like we saw at Burberry)?

And if the natural colors of all those animal prints are not daring enough for you, opt for some color. Burberry, Louis Vuitton and Blumarine all showed that. And though we’ve never seen a blue zebra, we still think it’s kinda cool.

It’s also nice to know animal prints can be mixed and worn together this season. So wear your favorite zebra skirt with your snake skin jacket and your full on trend!

Here are some pictures. Get inspired!

Pauline Krikke, major of Arnhem, had the honor to open the first shop of Dutch designer Sjaak Hullekes. Besides his menswear-collection, Hullekes is the first shop in the Netherlands to sell the wonderful French scented candles of LaDuree. And, soon he will present a small collection of womenswear.
The day of the opening, Hullekes had an interview in de Spits and he told the newspaper he wanted to have a store so he can see how people react to his collections and he can get to know his clients better. “And with a shop you can present the identity of a label better”, he said. Besides the store Hullekes also started a webstore, especially for international sales in the US and Japan.

And the latest news is that Sjaak is collaborating with shoe-designer Fred de la Bretonniere, he will be responsible for a new womenswear-collection!

Trend Report SS2011: Bikini Proof

Ok, maybe you’re still working on your perfect bikini body. But hey, that doesn’t mean you cannot take a look at the new swimwear trends. Besides having the perfect bikini/swimsuit in mind, might be an extra motivation to reach your summer proof body.

And when it comes to this year’s swimwear there’s more than enough to choose from. A new trend seems to be the blending of day wear and swimwear. Cause some swimsuits (like the woolen ones at Michael Kors) look more like tops and bikini’s are becoming part of an outfit.

At Blugirl, Barbara Bui, Tommy Hilfiger, Iceberg and Marc Jacobs swimsuits and bikini’s were mixed and matched with daywear pieces. (So it’s actually cool if your blouse reveals just a small part of your bikini top.)

Luxurious bathing suits are still hot too. Especially the ones with the sexy cutouts. Whether they’re meant to stroll around or actually hit the water is not sure, but you’ll definitely look damn sexy!

Trend Report SS2011: Ballerina Chic

The movie Black Swan was a major succes. Not only in the cinemas, but on the catwalk too. All of a sudden the ballerina look was everywhere. At Chanel sheer skirts (just over the knee) were paired with tight bodies in shades of black and light pink. At Celine we saw nude-colored, ultra thin, pleated skirts and tops. Zac Posen combined lace and feathers in a ballerina kind of way. Erdem was all about the ballet shoes and Jason Wu and Oscar de la Renta showed us some big (feather) skirts.

All looks in which you could hit a ballet class in style, yet also outfits to be worn on a night out. Just practice some more on your body movements and… en pointe!
