Louis Vuitton Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2011

For Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs presented a collection with a disco-chic vibe. Like in his Marc Jacobs show we saw lots of vibrant colors with a lot of extra’s added to the mix. There were fringes, glitters, animal and floral prints.

He gave the collection a bit of an oriental feeling by adding shiny Eastern-inspired designs. Besides animal prints he also had images of panda’s and giraffes on the clothes. Plus two large tiger were placed on stage.

It was quite a change compared to the neat and sober fifties-inspired looks from last season, but it was again something new. And we’re quite sure some new trends will be picked up from this collection and become a major hit next summer.

Elie Saab Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2011

It was back to the seventies at Elie Saab, like we’ve seen on so many other runways this season. The designer tried to catch the  the wild nights of Studio 54 with a lineup that was long on jersey, chiffon, sequins and platform sandals. Michel Gaubert’s soundtrack of Rolling Stones, Blondie, and Diana Ross tunes worked hard to add some sizzle to the show. ,

Alexander McQueen Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2011

It was the first McQueen collection former assistant Sarah Burton had made on her own and she did a great job.

She presented a collection inspired by Mother Earth that was slightly lighter than we are used to from McQueen himself. Burton showed baroque-details, golden embroideries, high collars and pointy shoulders

Colorful prints in orange and ochre were combined with black and white. There were lots of sheer designs and many creations had nature influences, like leafs, feathers, peacock feathers and wheat.

The hair of the models was done in a special way; it was braided like a woven basket and looked stunning.

After the show everyone was enthusiastic, even the photographers thought it was a perfect McQueen show. So, job wel done Burton, McQueen would be proud.

40 Years of Kenzo Catwalk Fashion Show Paris

On Tuesday night Antonio Marras not only presented a new summer collection for Kenzo, but also celebrated the brand’s 40th anniversary. Though he’s only been designer at Kenzo for six years he had the honor to design a special collection of pieces from the label’s archive.

The pieces had influences from Japan (Kenzo’s origins) as well as Sardinia (Marras’ origins) in them, which combined surprisingly well. There were kimono’s and floor sweeping dresses, floral prints and sequins

While the spring/summer collection had mostly light colors and pastels in it, the finale was super bright. Kenzo stretched out the models’ figures by putting them on high shoes and giving hem all sorts of head pieces. The outfits were a combination of layers of Kenzo’s signature color prints.

While the circular stage at Cirque d’Hiver turned around everyone in the audience could get a good look at the forty models. It created the most beautiful image. On to the next forty years!

Valentino Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2011

The Valentino collection Pier Paolo Picciolo and Maria Grazia Chiuri presented for next summer was cohesive, elegant and very Valentino.

All the Valentino aspects were there. The ruffles, the sheerness, the sexy dresses and the red. Though this time it was not the signature Valentino red we saw; it looked slightly more pink.

It was a very luxurious collection, with delicate clothes meant to be worn at fancy cocktail parties or chic gala events. There was not a pair of pants in sight. But the typical Valentino girl won’t even need one of those.

Valentino himself seemed to like it. He was one of the few people giving a standing ovation during the finale. Let’s hope he’s proud.

Chanel Catwalk Fashion Show Paris SS2011

All of Karl’s muses were at the show in the Grand Palais on Tuesday. Claudia Schiffer, Lilly Allen, Vanessa Paradis and Alexa Chung. Besides one of Karl’s former male muses, Brad Koening walked in the show with his little son, both in matching Chanel outfits. Also, there were three generations of models walking the show. Karl: ‘Inez is model of the 80s, Stella is the model of the 90s , Freja is the model of today’.

The décor of the show, inspired by the movie Last Year at Marienbad, was once again breath-taking. After the iceberg of last season, this time there was a fountain surrounded by a monochrome garden and an orchestra of 80 musicians.

For his clothes Karl said he’d used all kinds of new materials and new techniques. Those gave his designs a modern twist. ‘If you would have made the same dresses in classic materials they would have looked old’, he said.

Still almost every outfit looked unfinished. The cropped jackets, narrow skirts and sheer dresses had ragged edges and perforations. Karl changed the fake fur of last season into feathers and lace. He also showed some tweed patchwork.

The color palette had pastels in it, but also a lot of black mixed with bright colors. ‘We didn’t do colorblocking, cause we’ve now seen that quite a few times’, Karl said. Still he managed to present a great collection with a young and modern twist.
