If you’re a fan of animal prints, this is your time to shine. Full on, head to toe animal prints fit the current fashion trend. From Balenciaga en Dolce to Beckham and Max Mara. Forget the sand colored classic trenchcoat. Why not opt for something a little wilder?! Make your autumn outfit a roaring one covered in tiger, leopard or zebra prints. You might even match your gloves, tights, hat and bag game (as seen at Dolce & Gabbana). Oh and a pair of animalistic pumps of course, to take that walk on the wild side.

Trend Report: Animal Inspired Shoes

Animal prints have been very popular in fashion for ages now. For this winter there were less animal prints on the clothes, yet looking at the shoes, it was one big designer jungle.

Blumarine opted for zebra prints, Blugirl for leopard and snake prints. Also Emporio Armani, Rochas and Etro gave their shoes a leopard look. Vivienne Westwood did so too, yet showed her leopard print in red.

Dries van Noten presented some croco leather and at Dsquared designers Dean and Dan used pieces of skeletons as heels for their shoes.

Of course Roberto Cavalli, king of the animal prints, exceeded everyone by using leopard, giraffe snake and tiger prints for his heels and boots.

Which print are you gonna be strutting the streets in?

Catwalktrend FW2010: Graphic Prints

Digital graphic prints, Peter Pilotto made them into it’s signature technique and has a lot of success with it. Even Michelle Obama wore several pieces of the brand. It’s digital prints are always very vivid and colorful and are inspired by nature’s element like water or the sun. For fall the designers drew their inspiration from seventies interiors.

Often though, graphic prints aren’t based on anything. Their just beautiful figure- and color combinations printed on a certain fashion item.

Apart from Peter Pilotto, Matthew Williamson creates gorgeous prints as well. The short, printed cocktail dresses and long evening gowns he designs, always are true show stoppers.

Unlike floral prints and animal prints, graphic prints often look very modern. They can even look kinda spacey when printed on a black background. The most beautiful examples are printed on satin or sheer fabric. It makes the clothes look expensive and the women look elegant.

We think all women wanting to look modern and hip should have at least one graphic printed cocktail dress of her own.

It has been a trend for over years now but the leopard print still isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. For fall/winter 2020 there’s still a big focus on animal prints, both for the ladies and the lads. Just check out J.W. Anderson’s socks, the coats at Céline, Raf Simons and Versace. Not to mention the cosy sweaters at Dior and Sullivan. It’s still a jungle out there. And by now you really should have all the confidence in the world to take a walk on the wild side.

Roberto Cavalli Catwalk Fashion Show Milan FW2019

They were meant to resemble animal prints, yet the show’s opening look (and many more to come) looked more like a kaleidoscopic pattern. Paul Surridge alternated those printed looks with bold colored pieces like a structured yellow dress, a turquoise colored suit (menswear) and a deep pink pleated skirt. Pants were high waisted, skirts and dresses had a midi length. And the prints slowly turned from bright colored and kaleidoscopic to earthy toned and sequined. As far as the menswear part of the collection was concerned things were smooth and perfectly tailored. On the womenswear part the collection lacked a bit of Cavalli’s seductive signature. The looks didn’t necessarily breath the Cavalli sex appeal (although Bella looked stunning in a body tight all black look, yet his could have been a look from any given designer). Surridge has been with the label for almost two years now, yet we’re not sure what direction he’s going with Cavalli just yet.

Recap New York Fashion Week FW2019

New York Fashion Week might have scaled down a bit, we’re as inspired as ever for what’s to come. To give you a short summery of the #nyfw highlights and to inform you on what styles you might be wearing six months from now we’ve selected the biggest trends for the new season.

So far it seems the aw2019 season is going to be a colorful one, purple being the main color of choice (Michael Kors, Sies Marjan, Anna Sui). The dress up game is either classic and super feminine  – think: Victorian collars (Marc Jacobs, Zimmerman), cinched waists (Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler) and glamorous feather skirts – or androgynous and sharp – & crispy white – (Prabal Gurung, Ralph Lauren, Proenza Schouler).

Interesting were the quilted evening gowns Oscar de la Renta sent out, amazing how the label turned such heavy fabrics into elegant dresses. Talking heavy fabrics, the patchwork trend made it’s way onto the runway too (Prabal Gurung, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta).

And good news for anyone who isn’t planning on giving up his/her collection of leopard printed fashion pieces: the trend is here to stay (Marc Jacobs, Coach, Anna Sui).

Below our galleries of all the above trends, a first sneak peek for the upcoming season, FW2019.

Catwalk Trend Spring/Summer 2019: It’s a zoo out there

We’ve just come to the conclusion that half of our wardrobe is filled with leopard printed items ever since that trend completely took over. We might have added a touch of tiger and even a Dalmatian printed piece along the way, but there’s no denying the love for leopard. It has become our new neutral so to say. And thus, we’re moving further in the world of prints, looking for the next big thing. As it turns out that trend isn’t even that different from the animal print trend. In fact, it’s an animal print too. A different one though; these prints don’t feature the animal’s print, but the complete animal as a print. Just look at the farm animal at Dolce & Gabbana, the birds at Fendi, the butterflies at Mary Katrantzou, the fish at Michael Kors and the peacocks at Valentino. All very colorful, vivid and exotic. Animal prints revisited.

Prada Catwalk Fashion Show Womenswear SS2018 Milan

Animal prints, studs, pins and manga illustrations (by contemporary as well as 30’s and 60’s artists) found each other on Miuccia Prada’s latest designs. The ultimate mash-up of all things fun and rebellious. The girls wearing them appeared tough and empowered. “I am suggesting militant women in a very practical way”, Prada stated backstage. Dressed in pencil skirts, sleeveless shirts, shorts and trench coats, shirt dresses (worn over pants), knee socks, (perfectly tailored) woolen coats (yep, for summer) and corset-y tops complete with pointy collars, multiple belts and studded sandals her models spoke of girl power and feminism. A clear message that speaks louder than any (perhaps disappointing) Prada sales report.

ARTITUDE Catwalk Fashion Show Amsterdam Fashion Week

A year ago Marissa Moll decided to start customizing leather fashion pieces. Today she presented her collection at fashion week and asked celebrity friends Fred van Leer, Holly Brood and Everon Jackson Hooi (among others) to walk in her show. They sported tough looking, street inspired looks featuring prints and paint of Batman, Mickey Mouse, did we spot a crying Kim Kardashian on the back of a jacket?, camouflage prints, dollar signs, words (“fake bitch”), stars and patches. Divided into four different categories (Galaxy, Jungle Fever, Mixed Prints and Rebellion Slogans) faux fur coats, leather jackets, jeans and sneakers in the mix with neon colors and animal prints followed up on each other. Items Marissa Moll is planning on selling in her own brand store she hopes to open in the near future. And that store might just open sooner than later, since those Artiitude jackets are selling up a storm.

Fashion might have made a big turn from normcore to maximalism over the last few seasons, the Roberto Cavalli woman has stayed true to her sexy seventies style all along. For spring/summer too she’s going to dress like a free spirited vixen, be it with a little more accessory and detailing.
Not only will she be wearing colored velvet flared pants. They’re going to be embroidered from top to bottom too. Patchwork (a mix of floral and animal prints as seen on pants, tops and dresses) is going to be a big theme in her warderobe ass well. Airy maxi dresses and studded leather jackets fit in perfectly as extra fringes, lace up details, studs and ruffles will add to the seventies swing. Beaded jewelry, bee-like glasses, cowboy belts and skinny scarves in the mix. The Cavalli girl has always loved to live life to the max, she’s just turning things up a notch for next summer.
