Trend Report SS2011: Walk The Line

Next to the blue and white navy-like stripes there is another world of stripes we just need to discuss. Those stripes are bold, wide and come in many different shades.

Prada’s stripes definitely are the most recognizable ones (also since they’re copied all over the world by high street fashion houses). Blue, pink, green, orange; the brighter, the better.

Karl Lagerfeld chose diagonal stripes for fendi and at Jil Sander they were extremely wide and vertical. Watanabe’s models looked like they’d just escaped from prison and Marc Jacobs gave his striped dresses a vintage feeling due to his choice of color.

We saw so many stripes on the runway, it seems there’s no way you can do without them this summer. And our advice, if you go for some stripes is: don’t hold back! Let them stand out & just have fun with it.

Trend Report SS2011: Be a sport!

The world of sports again was a big inspiration for many summer collections. Sporty fabrics (nettings & neopreen), sporty details (lots of zippers and layers pockets or buttons) and sports-influenced accessories (caps, glasses and bags) popped up in many runway shows.

At Marni it was the mix of colors and materials that made the Marni girls look sportive. At Balenciaga the shape and materials gave the inspiration away. For Lacoste classic shades like white, black and red added a sporty touch to the collection and at Celine the fit of the clothes seemed perfect for the sporty types.

So weather you’re sticking with the classic sportswear or opting for some brand new more modern sporty style; you can never go wrong this season. So be a sport and try this new trend on for size!

Valentino Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2011

The new Valentino is not red anymore, but a variation on nudes and blushes, a fitted dress with flared skirt and long sleeves, sometimes short, sometimes longer.
The fall-collection looked pretty and ladylike, wearable, cleaner and also sportier. There was a Sixties cut in the dresses,  jackets and swingy skirts but more casual. Designers Chiuri and Piccioli introduced also deeper colors, like navy and oxblood on fur coats and leather trench-coats. The sheer silk tops,  pleated skirts and long, slim evening-gowns were done in lighter colors and fabrics.

Yves St. Laurent Catwalk Fashion Show Paris FW2011

That was a clear collection Stefano Pilati presented for Yves St. Laurent. He opened with Prince of Wales-checks neatly tailored into coats, capes and suits. Jackets were mixed with pleated miniskirts and drop-waist dresses. One was done in patent leather with a cocoon back and a checked skirt with a blue hem. This collection didn’t refer to Mod or schoolgirls as we’ve seen in other collections. This was for grown up women. Accessories added the right touch: chain chokers and suede laced up boots.

The checks came back in the whole collection, sometimes blown up and even with degradé-effect on fur.  The second part of the show was about texture: dots punched out of patent leather tunics with different densities of tweed mixed in. It all culminated in a run of white silk crepe evening wear: fluid jumpsuits with halter necks and trompe l’oeil bustiers, ruffle collared backless dresses belted in more gold and one huge white marabou jacket to match.
