From bright pink and fluffy to sophisticated suede; it’s cape o’clock! Layer it up like some of our streetstyle heroes or show some leg like Anna dello Russo and Hailey Baldwin. And it’s not just London that’s cape town this winter. This fall/winter item looks equally chic on a Parisienne. Just pick a cape to match your cool. Pink grisley, navajo or little red riding hood? A cosy capelet goes a long way.

It definitely is a fashion piece for style daredevils. We didn’t name it cape fearless for no reason! Yet if a guy knows how to wear this latest fashion trend well, he’ll immediately jump to the top of this year’s best dressed list. It’s rather difficult, we have to admit. There’s a fine line between looking like a magician or a fashion forward trend setter. Just take some inspiration from Dolce & Gabbana, Dior, Roberto Cavalli and Calvin Klein and see if you’re up for it.

Catwalktrend FW2010: Cape it!

For fall a cape is the ultimate fashion accessory. No, we’re not talking ‘bout the super heroes capes, we’re talking trendy capes in all kinds of styles.

Originating from medieval times the cape is the perfect fashion item to keep you warm and classy at the same time. On the runway any imaginable kind of cape was presented.

Fur (Celine, Chanel, Dsquared, Etro), woollen (Kenzo, Yves Saint Laurent, Antonio Marras, Missoni), water-resistant (Issey Miyake), silk (Yves Saint Laurent) and camel-colored (Carolina Herrera, Alexander Wang).

Even a lot of the coats resembled capes. They were worn, hanging over the model’s shoulders and some of them looked exactly like capes, yet had small arm wholes at the bottom.

The cape is regularly discussed as a substitute for the trench coat. And we actually think it’s the perfect alternative. By wearing a cape you are partly covered, so you can still show off the outfit you’re wearing underneath it. It’s great for wearing to a special party and you can even face the rain in it.

Streetwear trend: casual cape

We didn’t really see this one coming. Yet all of a sudden they were everywhere: capes. This most striking outerwear fashion piece is back in style.

And we’re not just talking about any cape. No it’s a particular cape that’s the new hit of the season. It has a natural color like beige or light brown and more than often it has a small darkbrown edge as a finishing detail.

On the streets of Milan and Paris we spotted many of those fashionable capes. They were worn with leggings or trousers, never with a skirt or a dress.

Between the fashionista’s who wore them, were Anna dello Russo and our own fashion blogger Tess.

What do you think of this fashionable trend? Is it here to stay?
Or should capes just be worn by superheroes?
