Trend Report: Angelic Appearence

Instead of all the black, navy and gray, why not wear something lighter this Christmas? Choose a dress in soft colors like beige. sand, gold, ivory and white and you’ll definitely make an Angelic appearance. It makes your look fresh and feminine.

Look for design with extra elegant detail like lace or ruffles (as seen at Valentino, Marc Jacobs, Alberta Ferretti and Diane von Furstenberg). Combine your dress, skirt or suit with light accessories and soft-colored shoes.

And if your bringing your man to the Christmas dinner, buy him a light suit as well. You’ll make a better match and will both look cool & trendy.

Wanna go for a safer option? We already selected the best Little Black Party Dresses.

Posthumous British Fashion Award for Alexander McQueen

On Tuesday evening 7 December the British Fashion Awards will be presented in London. Today one of the winning designers was already announced. Alexander McQueen will receive a posthumous award (The Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design prize) for his contribution to fashion. During the evening this will be celebrated by a film, directed by Nick Knight, featuring McQueen’s most iconic pieces.

‘This film is my way of speaking about a very unique and important person who changed my life. My desire was to speak in some way about the dark and the light contained within Lee, and within us all,’ Nick Knight told Vogue.

‘The Outstanding Achievement Award celebrates the exceptional talent of an individual who has contributed to the British fashion industry, both internationally and here in the UK, throughout their career. There was only one person we felt we could recognize with this award this year – Lee McQueen’, Harold Tillman, Chairman of the British Fashion Council, explained to Vogue.

During his career Alexander McQueen was awarded the Designer of the Year prize at the British Fashion Awards four times. In the past years The Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design award was already won by fashion heroes like Stephen Jones, John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood.

Trend Report: Stunning Socks

There are some great open shoes for sale this winter, yet with just a pair of thin tights you won’t make it through the day. Luckily for you we found the answer to cold feet. Just put on a thick pair of (colorful) socks and you’re not only staying warm but you look very trendy as well.

On the runway socks were presented in every possible color and print. Oscar de la Renta, Anna Sui and Vivienne Westwood opted for crazy prints while G-Star and Givenchy chose brights colors. And for a true Socks Spectacle just take a look at the photos of the Jean Paul Gaultier show…. Wow!

This winter you can wear your peep-toe shoes and stay warm at the same time.

Only Haider Acker-wo-mann

Haider Ackermann successfully launched his menswear line last season, but has already decided to quit it. For now there will be no more men’s clothing from the Belgium label.

A spokesperson from BVBA 32, the company that operates and produces Haider Ackermann’s collections said: ‘The decision to present a one-season collection was a creative decision. Haider wanted to underline the image he made for his women’s line with the man at her side. The men’s collection will be added again at the time Haider wants to and it will not be linked to a season. Creativity cannot be forced into a time frame. It is the emotion of the moment being translated to a collection, which is presented and sold to retailers who believe in creativity as such.’

Could it be that Haider Ackermann needs his time to prepare for his new job at Chanel? Last week in Numero magazine Karl Lagerfeld named Ackermann as his potential successor at Chanel. Yet we doubt Karl is leaving Chanel any time soon.

Trend Report: Animal Inspired Shoes

Animal prints have been very popular in fashion for ages now. For this winter there were less animal prints on the clothes, yet looking at the shoes, it was one big designer jungle.

Blumarine opted for zebra prints, Blugirl for leopard and snake prints. Also Emporio Armani, Rochas and Etro gave their shoes a leopard look. Vivienne Westwood did so too, yet showed her leopard print in red.

Dries van Noten presented some croco leather and at Dsquared designers Dean and Dan used pieces of skeletons as heels for their shoes.

Of course Roberto Cavalli, king of the animal prints, exceeded everyone by using leopard, giraffe snake and tiger prints for his heels and boots.

Which print are you gonna be strutting the streets in?

Trend Report – Warm Winter Accessories

Unfortunately a warm camel coat is not enough to keep you warm this winter. You’re gonna need some winter proof accessories to go with that too. We selected the best warm winter accessories straight from the catwalk:

  • A knitted scarf, the thickest one you can get.
  • A pair of long leather gloves.  According to Gstar, Carolina Herrera and Moschino the best ones are blue this season, but you can choose any color you like. Just take a colorful risk and try to have fun with it.
  • A nice fur detail, perhaps on your collar, bag or shoes.
  • A hat, cap, turban (very trendy) or headband, anything that keeps your head warm and prevents your ears from freezing off.
  • A pair of hairy snow boots (you don’t wanna ruin your suede heels).

The rule for wearing these accessories seems to be: the bigger the better. Especially Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier and Galliano went over the top with their enormous hats and overload of fur.

After Lanvin for H&M, Valentino for Gap and Lagerfeld for Macy’s, we’ve just heard about a new designer collaboration. British designer Jonathan Saunders will come up with a capsule collection for Escada Sport. This will be part of the brand’s Resort 2012 collection.

Saunders has been designing under his own name for five years now and has done so quite successfully. His colorful creations with unusual prints have been sold worldwide at locations such as Bergdorf Goodman, Harrods, Selfridges, Lane Crawford and net-a-porter.com.

His capsule collection for Escada Sport will focus on the ‘buy now, wear now’-principle, so the items are meant to be worn on the season’s top occassions. There will be twenty pieces from different product groups, including leather accessories.

Unfortunately we still have to wait a whole year; the collection will not be launched until November 2011.

Whether you’re having a Christmas brunch with your family or dining with your boyfriend’s parents, you can never go wrong with black. For the upcoming holidays we think the LBD is a perfect option if you wanna go Christmas chic. The LBD is elegant, classy and never goes out of style.

Opt for a version with playful details like ruffles, feathers, lace or floral details. And don’t forget to have fun with the jewelry. Eye-catching accessories are a must for the holidays. A large ring, golden bracelets or a chunky necklace? You can never be overdressed with Christmas or New Year’s Eve.

Ps. Wear your towering high heels during Christmas dinner. You’re gonna be sitting at the table for a couple of hours, so your feet won’t hurt.
