Rochas formed a parade of elegant, airy and ultra feminine designs. For his second seasaon at the label Alessandro Dell’Acqua basically just showed a mix of midi skirts, maxi skirts and dresses; not a pair of trousers at sight. Still there was enough variation thanks to the detailed design extra’s. Like colored floral printed embroideries and hummingbird shaped appliques. Like posh collars and a big R stichted onto the chest. Like mesh parts and belts that closed over breasts and waists. All looks were so highly decorated a clean white coat worn over a black skirt (with clutch and sunglasses) almost felt out of place. While last season was all about heavy and rich fabrics, this time transparency and sheerness played the biggest part. But even though there was a lot at display Dell’Acqua kept things modest. Ankle socks in green and gold feathered shoes added to that effect. This is what delicacy looks like.
Dries van Noten Catwalk Fashion Show Paris Womenswear SS2015

On a catwalk full of green moss the Dries van Noten fairytale happened in front of our eyes. There were over 50 looks, but as far as we’re concerned the show could have gone on forever. Inspired by a midsummer night’s dream Van Noten introduced his kimonos, tunics, bandeaus tops, long shorts, dresses and bomber jacket. Fascinated by the moon and the sun colors like gold, pink, blue and purple varied from rich to dusty, creating a gorgeous and unique palette all together. And the models maybe looked like plain Janes (simple hair no make-up) their outfits took them to another level. Their delicateness was in everything.. their prints, their embroideries, their cut, their fit. And the best part of it all… clothes women can easily work into their own wardrobes. Giving it an exotic, boho chic twist for summer.
Marni Catwalk Fashion Show Milan Womenswear SS2015

On Sunday Marni was one of the final Italian brands to show their s/s collection in Milan. And well, the brand, which is turning 20 this year, made sure Milan Fashion Week went out with a bang. Besides the show Marni set up a large flower market at one of Milans famous 18th century building where the show was held. Not only the prettiest of flowers were represented here. Marni had covered just about any type of gardening essential, decoratively exposed in cheerful (and of course) branded bags.
It was a subtle nod to the collection, which involved some mind blowing (made abstract and magnified) floral prints of it’s own. The show started off very serene and calm though, with white, sandy and grey structured, asymmetrical outfits, looking sportive and modern at the same time. Kimono like sleeves and judo inspired tied belts gave the collection a subtle oriental touch. As did the graphic floral prints in green, yellow and red with summer season written all over them.
Of course it wouldn’t be a Marni show if accessories didn’t play their part. Multiple chunky necklaces worn at the same time, eye-catching earrings, statement bags and some impressive sportive platform sandals made it into a solid summer collection. No pulling from the archives, no looking back, no “best of”or “greatest hits”, but a collection perfectly worthy of concluding 20 Marni years.

The words chic, romantic and delicate might not usually be the best words to describe a signature Roberto Cavalli creation. Yet on Saturday the designer did present us with such a collection. A collection with a type of resort feeling, “the vacation life” as Cavalli’s team stated backstage. With modest, kaleidoscopic, tribal kind of floor length dresses, sliced up and pleated. With dreamy cotton lace decorated by elegant bows. And with destroyed, ultra light, vintage looking denim (the labels’original trademark) numbers. Still, who thought this would only be a dreamy, loungy holiday selection of clothing, might be disappointed. Of course Cavalli couldn’t resist to throw in a series of club worthy outfits. Like croc leather skirts and motor jackets. Like plunging, glittery leopard dresses. Like sheerness, fringes, sequins, leather and animal prints all in one party look. Now that’s the Cavalli we know! Although we don’t mind his little resort half of the collection, at all.

Luxurious, sophisticated, elegant; words coming to mind while watching Bottega Veneta’s fifties style collection. Undone ballerina buns, multicolored brogues and the label’s famous leather bags were the extra’s to Tomas Maier’s feminine summer creations. In a palette of faded pastels, denim blue and black he sent out his flattering city chic designs. Silky tops with tied belts, a floor sweeping trench, high waisted shorts and a cropped top, belted gingham dresses and long cardigans. Dark denim almost came in disguise, used on a number of dresses, a suit and a very masculine pair of jeans. Dark denim that turned into black for evening with floral appliqués to add some extra glamour. With a summer wardrobe like this, BV’s woman will never be underdressed.

On a mirrored runway Donatella Versace presented her collection for next summer. And a mirrored (dance) floor probably is the best spot to work her latest range of disco appropriate dresses. Sexy silhouettes, bold colors, shiny, glittery straps, shoes ands bags to match the outfits and the company’s logo all over it. No evening gowns here, just a raunchy range of sheer, mesh and cut-out party creations. The fashion feeling of the Italian label was in the large stitching, the geometric prints and cutouts (of the Versace logo and some rings) the wet hair look and the minimal use of make-up. Now let’s dance!

While Max Mara was nice, but not necessarily mind blowing, it’s little sister Sportmax was impressive with a collection full of XL check prints and culottes. The designs felt young as crop tops, hands in the pockets, hair pulled back and bare faces made it look modern. Models sported strapless dresses, belted kimono tops, checked pencil skirts with matching jackets and furry/fringed sweaters. All in a sophisticated color palette of blacks and whites, olive green and a bright touch of orange. Work attires, relax outfits and quite a few party numbers; for upcoming summer Sportmax is bound to appeal to a wide range of female customers.
Prada Catwalk Fashion Show Milan Womenswear SS2015

When it comes to show backdrops it’s hard to top Chanel and it’s enormous decors. Still, Prada has been creating some impressive ones for it’s shows over the past few year. This week lilac coloured sand-dunes formed the backdrop of Prada’s summer collection. Although summer was not the first word coming to mind when looking at the passing creations. Due the moody vibe of the show, the choice of heavy and rich fabrics (the knitwear, the fur, the leather, the brocades) and the first half of the collection containing mostly dark coats autumn might be more of a seasonal match. Nevertheless designs were impressive in the way only Miuccia Prada can impress. Coats, a lot of them, had obvious topstitching and most clothes with undone frayed ends had a patchwork design to them. With 30 different types of brocades worked into the collection, creating modern pieces of reproduced antique textiles. Something old turned into something new; luxurious yet undone. Elegant earrings, knee socks and oddly shaped blog boots put the Prada S/S2015 look together. A look returning models (after quite a period of absence) Gemma Ward (opening) and Lara Stone (closing) were able to pull off fabulously.
