Trend Report SS2011: Walk The Line

Next to the blue and white navy-like stripes there is another world of stripes we just need to discuss. Those stripes are bold, wide and come in many different shades.

Prada’s stripes definitely are the most recognizable ones (also since they’re copied all over the world by high street fashion houses). Blue, pink, green, orange; the brighter, the better.

Karl Lagerfeld chose diagonal stripes for fendi and at Jil Sander they were extremely wide and vertical. Watanabe’s models looked like they’d just escaped from prison and Marc Jacobs gave his striped dresses a vintage feeling due to his choice of color.

We saw so many stripes on the runway, it seems there’s no way you can do without them this summer. And our advice, if you go for some stripes is: don’t hold back! Let them stand out & just have fun with it.

Trend Report SS2011: Be a sport!

The world of sports again was a big inspiration for many summer collections. Sporty fabrics (nettings & neopreen), sporty details (lots of zippers and layers pockets or buttons) and sports-influenced accessories (caps, glasses and bags) popped up in many runway shows.

At Marni it was the mix of colors and materials that made the Marni girls look sportive. At Balenciaga the shape and materials gave the inspiration away. For Lacoste classic shades like white, black and red added a sporty touch to the collection and at Celine the fit of the clothes seemed perfect for the sporty types.

So weather you’re sticking with the classic sportswear or opting for some brand new more modern sporty style; you can never go wrong this season. So be a sport and try this new trend on for size!

Trend Report: in this skin

Next to the bright, color blocking looks we see this summer there’s still room left for some nudes. So if you’re not feeling the brights you can opt for powder hues. There’s plenty of ‘em!

We saw the variable skin tones at Chloé, Alexander Wang, Alberta Ferretti, Giambattista Valli, Cavalli, Gucci and MaxMara on skin tight dresses, maxi skirts, pleated pants and bathing suits.

The good thing about this nude look is you don’t have to be very tanned to work it. Even on a pale skin a beige top can appear awesome. Just choose the right kinds of fabric, combine several different shades in one look and work that outfit!

Trend Report SS2011: rock the boat

This season you don’t have to join the navy to look like a sailor (wo)man. With navy being a big trend you can bring on the red, white and blue stripes any day of the week.

Mix your striped shorts with a simple blue sweater or match your denim pants with a red and white blazer. Opt for easy shoes like some flip flops, All Stars or boat shoes and take a large beach bag with you.

Copy the looks of Moschino, Fendi, Celine, Dior, Dsquared and Derek Lam. Or just take a good look at the trends you see in the streets. Whatever direction your going, don’t take it too seriously. Fashion should be fun and especially this navy trend should feel comfortable.

Trend Report SS2011: Seventies Style

Marc Jacobs has been one of the greatest trends setters of the past seasons. So when he introduced a whole seventies-inspired collection there was no doubt it would become a huge trend. It started on the runway but in the streets the seventies seem even more alive.

It’s all about platform heels, flared jeans (bye bye skinny jeans!), jumpsuits and maxi dresses & skirts. And preferably in a color palette ranging from nude to brown, mustard, red and purple.

Accessories like floppy hats, larger than life sunglasses, small belts and bags with fringes are the finishing touch to this hippie chic look.

Some inspiration..

Trend Report SS2011: in his shirt

Wearing a men’s shirt can be even sexier than wearing the perfect LBD. So, when designers like Dries van Noten, Stella McCartney and Paul Smith worked the men’s shirt into their summer collections they made a smart move.

A men’s shirt doesn’t need any extra’s; it speaks for itself. Combined with a pair of pleated trousers or some cool jeans the shirt looks effortless chic. Take the ones we saw at Michael Kors, Margiela and Lacoste; could a woman look any more elegant in such basic pieces?

So leave your tailored, ruffled, printed blouses at home girls. The men’s shirt is all the rage these days….

Trend Report SS2011: the new denim

Wearing denim to a cocktail event might have been a no go for years, now you can look as chic in your jeans as you will in your LBD. ‘Cause the new denim is more sophisticated and classy then ever. Derek Lam, Stella McCartney and Dries van Noten showed some perfect examples of that. No skinny jeans there, but long, wide legged pants (and denim jackets, skirts, dresses and pants too!) So whatever event your attending; in this new denim you’ll look fabulous 7 days a week.

Apart from the ‘chic denim’ at Balmain we saw some rough looking examples for the punk/rock ‘n roll ladies as well. Yet we suppose wearing it classic like McCartney is the way to go.

Trend Report SS2011: Rock & Punk

Either you love it or you hate, but the punk look sure is a trend this summer. Think: short cut hair, lots of black, strong shoulders and metallic accents. Balenciaga, Balmain and Burberry all worked the Rock ‘n Roll/Punk trend on their catwalks. Their models looking fierce and a little boy-ish at times.

At Jean Paul Gaultier the models wore enormous pieces of metallic jewelry, at Burberry and Balmain spikes gave the looks some extra edge. Riccardo Tisci mixed Gothic and punk by presenting sheer black designs with lots op zippers.

If you’re the girly type of woman you might wanna pass on this trend. Yet for the ones who like it rough there’s plenty of rock ‘n roll fashion to choose from.

Here are some examples:

Trend Report SS2011: minimal effort, major success

This season too, you can look terrific without looking like you’ve spend hours in front of the mirror. Yes, we’re talking about the minimalistic look which is still a big trend in fashion. This season besides Chloe, Celine and Calvin Klein other brands have joined in on the fun as well. Derek Lam, Isabel Marant and Jil Sander all opted for the less is more look in their spring/summer collections.

And the great twist of this season is color. So after the minimalistic white, nude and black, there’s the minimal red, yellow, pink and even turquoise. The rest of the minimalistic rules remain the same though; clean cuts, no prints, straight lines and no extra fuzz (cutouts, frills, ruffles, bows etc).

Looking chic was never this easy…
