Trend Report FW2011: Hat Woman

Filed under Fashion, Featured Items, Trends, womenswear

As of this season hats are officially back in fashion! After seeing some amazing hats at Kenzo (last season) and Gucci (fall/winter) we cannot help but want to get our hands on one of our own.

The seventies revival made floppy hats all the rage again, yet there were plenty more hats to be seen on the international runways.

Furry (Issa), Boyish (Dolce & Gabbana), Animal shaped (Givenchy), Peter Pan-ish (Pucci) or colored (Blugirl & Gucci), just pick your favorite.

And if those designer pieces are a little too expensive you’ll find the coolest hats at H&M, Asos and Zara as well.

Who needs sunglasses anymore after a short night of sleep? Just hide under your fedora…

Trend Report FW2011: Ruby (Ruby, Ruby, Ruby!)

It was not just any red we saw on the runway last season. It was a shiny, simmering, rich kind of red, inspired by ruby jewels.

Although known for this rich kind of red Valentino wasn’t joining in on this trend. It was Diane von Furstenberg, Sonia Rykiel and Prabal Gurung and Gucci who did.

A great shade to combine with some of the other jewel tones (citrine, amethyst, sapphire). But just as great on it’s own.

Trend Report FW2011: Beyond Bondage

Although the bondage look seems quite extreme, it can in fact be very wearable.

You just need to look past the dramatic capes (Mark Fast), crazy hats (Givenchy) and strategically placed sexual leather pieces (Mugler, Ungaro).

Then you’ll definitely find some cute leather dresses (Michael Kors, Lanvin, Etro, G-Star), some decent black jackets (Givenchy) and some pretty wearable tops (Emporio Armani).

And in case you do have an extreme fetish fashion party comin’ up, just feel inspired by some of the greatest designers who worked the bondage theme like there’s no tomorrow (see below).

Trend Report FW2011: Light as.. Fur!

Defying the cold was never this glamorous. These fabulous furs will keep you warm in any kind of winter weather.

And instead of black or brown, light colored fur is the way the go. Go for white like Burberry, Oscar de la Renta and Alexander McQueen. Match your white fur coat with an all white look (incl. accessories).

If you think a complete fur coat is too much, try fur details (on the cuffs, collar and shoulders) to start with.

Snow white and the ice queen have got nothing on you girl, ’cause you’ll sure look Winter Wonderful!

All jewel tones are well represented upcoming season. We saw ruby, citrine, amethyst and emerald. And of course we may not skip the sapphire trend.

Haider Ackermann, Burberry and Jil Sander used some shiny sapphire blue in their fall collections. It made their girls look rich and sophisticated.

Trend Report FW2011: Girls will be Boys

The f/w Dolce & Gabbana show was closed by a large group of models, some dressed as men, others as women. A nice reference to the masculine/androgynous look that is so popular in fashion right now.

But these Italian designers were not the only ones having borrowed some clothes from the menswear section. At Celine, Chanel, Paul Smith and DKNY models were sporting strong masculine looks as well. They wore suits, waistcoats, braces, little hats and loose fitting pants.

To make the looks more wearable for women attention was paid too feminine details too. Bare legs, accentuated waists, sheer blouses and high heels gave the looks a subtle sexy vibe.

And by adding these small feminine accents to your look you can feel like one of the boys without loosing some of your sex appeal. Just study the images below..

Trend Report FW2011: On The Spot

Anyone who thinks polka dots are a little childish is wrong. Upcoming season they’re stylish, sophisticated and sexy. Whether large (Diane von Furstenberg), small (Stella McCartney) or sequined (Marc Jacobs) spots are the ultimate mix of simplicity and class.

Cut out dots on a sheer dress gave Stella McCartney’s collection some extra charm and on a black Lanvin dress small spots looked elegant.

The best way to wear polka dots is by choosing items in black and white. Try to avoid looking like a clown by adding lots of color and accessories (like Marc Jacobs did with his clutch bag and matching gloves).

Just follow the examples below and you will be just fine.

Trend Report FW2011: Emerald inspired

Amethyst, sapphire, emerald,  ruby, garnet and citrine are some of the jewel-inspired shades you’ll see coming fall/winter. And emerald is definitely one of our favorites. Emilio Pucci, Gucci, Marc Jacobs and Diane von Furstenberg each showed their own interpretation of this jewel-trend (most of them probably without knowing).

Not only did their particular shade of green feel warm and rich, there was some extra sophistication in the choice of fabric (lots of sequins, fur) as well.

Trend Report FW2011: Soft & Smooth

It’s goodbye to the pointy shoulders that have been one of the biggest trends over the past few years. This fall the silhouette becomes much more smooth. Especially in many jackets were seeing the rounded sleeves. Burberry, Loewe, Yves Saint Laurent and Jil Sanders showed some amazing examples of that.

At Stella McCartney the rounded shapes were everywhere in the collection, a stiffened golden dress being the most extravagant of all pieces.

At Chanel it were the shoulders that were more puffy than ever. Giambattista Valli, Lanvin, Mary Katrantzou and Jil Sander used the circle-shape in their skirts.

It might take a while before this trend is adapted by high street fashion stores, but if you wanna be one of the first: the oversized soft silhouette is the way to go!

You’ll find some inspiration in the gallery below.

Trend Report FW2011: Forties Fab

Ladies, pay attention! For this year’s fall the hemlines have dropped a few inches again. This means dresses and (pencil) skirts will have to be worn slightly below the knee. We go back to the conservative forties.

But don’t get scared you can still keep it sexy by opting for high slits or sheer blouses and tops. A modern twist can also come from unexpected color combinations (like we saw at Jonathan Saunders) or the choice of materials (Louis Vuitton). And especially if you style your look in the way Frida Gianinni styled her models (gloves, hats, small belt, glasses) you can do no wrong.

It’s the forties, but then sexier!
