Klavers Van Engelen. The End

After thirteen years the Dutch fashionduo Niels Klavers and Astrid van Engelen close their fashionhouse. Due to the economic situation it’s impossible for them to continue as an independent fashionlabel. It’s really sad that such talented and original designers  like Klavers van Engelen have to quit the fashionstage. Two designers whose hearts are totally dedicated to fashion and craftsmanschip. The Netherlands is not an easy market to survive as a fashionlabel, and Klavers van Engelen really tried to land in other countries. Without any satisfying results. It seemed only people who are connoisseurs were interested in their designs, people who can enjoy the way Niels Klavers and Astrid van Engelen play with fabric, construction and movement. With every collection it seemed they let the fabric and movement do the job in  dresses, tunics and pants that moved like water.

In an official press release Niels Klavers and Astrid van Engelen stated that they feel really sad about their decision and they realize it’s a disappointment for all their fans. They truly appreciate all the support they’ve got over the years.

This week they presented their last spring summer 2012 collection in Amsterdam, which will not be sold in stores. As always Team Peter Stigter shot their lookbook, although not knowing it would be the last time. It’s with sadness we present you these pictures, but we were really proud we could work with Niels and Astrid.

Ladies, don’t try this at home! Unless you’re up for some kind of theme party, of course. ‘Cause these crazy beauty looks are best worn only on the runway.

Golden bags under your eyes (Gareth Pugh), highlighted strong brows (Frankie Morello), the nose of a Dalmation dog (Unique), some colorful confetti (Gray) or just  a big splash of red paint (Viktor & Rolf), these were the craziest make-up looks we spotted for fall/winter 2011/2012.

Check out the gallery & get inspired!

Trend Report FW2011: Chunky Chokers

It can look kinda extreme, but if you mix a choker with the right kind of outfit, it will look stunning.

Now there are a couple of rules when wearing this neckpiece.
Unless you’re name is Anna dello Russo keep it subtle! A choker is already a strong statement piece so don’t choose the biggest one in the bunch.
Also, let the choker speak and don’t overshadow it by wearing an edgy outfit.
Wear a strapless top/dress or opt for a round neckline.
Leave your earrings and hairaccessories at home.
Never wear it too tight. You don’t wanna get out of breath.

Just look at some of the amazing examples Balmain, Bottega Veneta, Michael Kors, Yves Saint Laurent and Ungaro set. You gotta love it!

Trend Report FW2011: Amazing Coats

In winter time a good coat can be your very best friend. Rain, storm, snow or freezing cold; these comfy examples will get you through any kind of weather.

And it seems long and hairy is the way to go. Camel coats are over, it’s all about (fake) fur right now.

Also search for a jacket in which different textures are combined. Wool and leather, nylon and fur; it’s the mixture of fabrics that will make you(r coat) stand out.

Finally, if you bump into a structural coat, buy it! Accentuated shoulders, wide sleeves; this autumn it’s all about extreme forms and shapes.

Just look at the amazing coats Burberry, Versace, Louis Vuitton and Dries van Noten presented on the runway.

Trend Report FW2011: Minimalism 2.0

The Blumarine show was all about two of last season’s trends: color blocking and minimalism. And lucky for the Italian brand both trends are still a hit this fall.

Though slightly different, the minimalism trend is again very popular.

Chloé and Celine, who started the trend at first, have headed into a new direction, yet Calvin Klein and Jil Sander continue on with the minimalism.

The trend is shown in a slightly different way with more combinations of fabrics and even a print every now and then. Shapes however are staying very plain and simple, like we saw this summer.

Check the minimalism interpretations of Lanvin, Valentino, Rick Owens and Costume National in the gallery below.

Trend Report FW2011: Hat Woman

August 31, 2011 by
Filed under Fashion, Featured Items, Trends, womenswear

As of this season hats are officially back in fashion! After seeing some amazing hats at Kenzo (last season) and Gucci (fall/winter) we cannot help but want to get our hands on one of our own.

The seventies revival made floppy hats all the rage again, yet there were plenty more hats to be seen on the international runways.

Furry (Issa), Boyish (Dolce & Gabbana), Animal shaped (Givenchy), Peter Pan-ish (Pucci) or colored (Blugirl & Gucci), just pick your favorite.

And if those designer pieces are a little too expensive you’ll find the coolest hats at H&M, Asos and Zara as well.

Who needs sunglasses anymore after a short night of sleep? Just hide under your fedora…

Trend Report FW2011: Ruby (Ruby, Ruby, Ruby!)

It was not just any red we saw on the runway last season. It was a shiny, simmering, rich kind of red, inspired by ruby jewels.

Although known for this rich kind of red Valentino wasn’t joining in on this trend. It was Diane von Furstenberg, Sonia Rykiel and Prabal Gurung and Gucci who did.

A great shade to combine with some of the other jewel tones (citrine, amethyst, sapphire). But just as great on it’s own.

Check our gallery below for some inspiration.

Trend Report FW2011: Beyond Bondage

August 24, 2011 by

Although the bondage look seems quite extreme, it can in fact be very wearable.

You just need to look past the dramatic capes (Mark Fast), crazy hats (Givenchy) and strategically placed sexual leather pieces (Mugler, Ungaro).

Then you’ll definitely find some cute leather dresses (Michael Kors, Lanvin, Etro, G-Star), some decent black jackets (Givenchy) and some pretty wearable tops (Emporio Armani).

And in case you do have an extreme fetish fashion party comin’ up, just feel inspired by some of the greatest designers who worked the bondage theme like there’s no tomorrow (see below).

Trend Report FW2011: Light as.. Fur!

August 22, 2011 by
Filed under Fashion, Featured Items, Trends, womenswear

Defying the cold was never this glamorous. These fabulous furs will keep you warm in any kind of winter weather.

And instead of black or brown, light colored fur is the way the go. Go for white like Burberry, Oscar de la Renta and Alexander McQueen. Match your white fur coat with an all white look (incl. accessories).

If you think a complete fur coat is too much, try fur details (on the cuffs, collar and shoulders) to start with.

Snow white and the ice queen have got nothing on you girl, ’cause you’ll sure look Winter Wonderful!
