For the past two days New York was the homebase of The Kingpins Show, an invitation-only, boutique denim sourcing show featuring a highly-edited selection of vendors. We were there to capture the event and the atmosphere. International denim heads, countless denim variations, a colorful art project and an outdoor after party that felt more like a summer festival; this was Kingpins NYC SS2018.

You can leave your hat on – New York City Streetfashion

A good hat can instantly turn your outfit into a show stopper. A fashion rule the people of New York seem to live by. From cowboy hat to fishing cap and from beret to turban; here’s a selection of some of our favorite mad hatters we spotted during our city stroll.

New York City Impressions day 1

Touchdown NYC. We’re in town for the Kingpins event and while we’re at it we might just as well do some exploring, right? Here are some impressions of our first day in everyone’s favorite concrete jungle. Calm before the Kingpins storm.

SS2017 Trend: Smooth & Shiny

A little sparkle goes a long way, so make sure you stack up on some shiny pieces for SS2017. Add a little disco to your #ootd. Opt for metallic (Haider Ackermann, Balmain), choose for sequins (Kenzo, Gucci, Marc Jacobs) or wow in crystal beads (Proenze Schouler). Taking the trend a little further you can of course add some shimmer in the shape of jewelry (Kenzo) and make-up too (eyes and nails deserve some extra spark too). Oh and of course then there are Gucci’s crystal encrusted glasses. What ever you do, don’t hold back. Shine on and, for everyone who’s looking; make it worth their while.

SS2017 Trend: Harder, Better, Stronger (shoulders)

We admit some of the looks in our gallery above aren’t the most ‘likeable’ at first sight. Yet, you know how it works in fashion, give a trend a month or six and everyone in the fashion scene has completely accepted it. Give it a year (or two) and the mass market is fully embracing it. So right about now, when it comes to the strong shoulder trend, we’re at the first base; fashion professionals have accepted it and are transmitting the message to a wider audience. A few fashion forward influencers have been spotted working those Balenciaga jackets and one shouldered Saint Laurent dresses. They’re the daredevils who don’t care if a trench coat gives them a less feminine figure or a certain Frankenstein appeal. In the name of fashion they’re rocking those XL shoulders as if the eighties never existed. A woman in a suit (Off white, Céline) never looked this strong and disco dancing dressing (Saint Laurent) was never this fierce and outspoken. The silhouette’s focus point is moving up! From waist to shoulders. Are you ready to step up your shoulder game? Harder, better, faster!
