Already famous for his color schemes Sies Marjan-designer Sander Lak came up with yet another beautifully colored collection. He sent out fluid silk separates and chunky (croc) leather co-ords, slip dresses, pajama inspired sets and trench coats in a selection of jewel tones. A yellow bow tie jumpsuit paired with a pastel yellow trench coat, elegant sandals and chunky gold earrings simply looked like perfection. Big cross body bags looked a bit off. Asymmetry is a big theme for the new season and Sander knows just how to work with that. A swarm of rainbow confetti exploded during the finale, reminding us of what a celebration fashion should be.

Slick hair and chunky earrings made up for Proenza Schouler’s beauty look at their fashion show this week. Eighties inspired oversized power suits were there dresscode for the new season. They were made in the loveliest color palette of beige, yellow, white and gray. Asymmetric cropped tops underneath those sharply cut suit jackets formed a sexy statement. As roomy dresses cinched at the waist formed a good alternative to those suits. Impressive footwear matched the new handbag styles. Desirability level at a 100.

You’d think Tom Ford would have too much on his mind as the new CFDA chairman, but the designer managed to pull off a stunning new collection. He presented his fresh womenswear looks at a underground metro station near Bowery street. Sexy, silky and shiny fits for women who both love a touch of urban and some elegancy. Singlets, cropped tops (asymmetric) and bra tops formed a big theme. They were paired with long, loose trousers. As loose shorts and sharp suits were another main combination. Male models walked the show too. They turned up in tight suits and animal printed jackets. Sharp sunnies to top it off. If there’s one way to revive NYFW then it is with shows like this.

It was music meets fashion at Tommy Hilfiger last week more than before. For the launch of his second Tommy x Zendaya collection the designer held a show in front of the iconic Apollo Theater in Harlem (where famous names such as Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald and The Supremes used to perform) New York. All shapes and sizes, diversity and inclusivity and his familiar See Now Buy Now formula. As the models danced around in the collection’s brand new seventies inspired suits, flared pants, disco dresses designed by Tommy and the 23 year old singer. What a party.. err.. fashion show!

Ninamounah Catwalk Show Amsterdam Fashion Week 2019

Who knew giant snails could turn into a fashion accessory at some point? Friday night Ninamounah proved they could as they sent out some of their models holding living snails in their hands. Were they real? Were they alive? They sure had the audience buzzing as the show continued unraveling it’s mysteriousness. It was dark, almost too dark to fully focus on the models outfits. Lightweight organza, silk and heavy leather were in the mix. Sharp suiting, a lot of draping, knee high boots, extraordinary hair, arty eye make-up and crazy nail art were just some of the special ingredients of Ninamounah’s recipe. As the last model that came carried a net of mesh fabric around her head with living butterflies in it. Lots to discuss later on at the bar.

What better way to start the weekend than by watching a show filled with the work of young design talents? Friday afternoon we all gathered at de Nieuwe Kerk for the Lichting 2019 show. Fourteen graduates from seven different fashion academies in the Netherlands all showed their graduation collections in front of the Dutch fashion crowd and the international judges. Fourteen very diverse collections touching today’s themes. With his menswear collection entitled “Jack Saul”, inspired by the beauty en struggles of a gay prostitute from the Victorian time, designer Dylan Westerweel was chosen as this year’s winner. He won a money prize of 10.000 euro and will get his own fashion show during the next fashion week (as Ferry Schiffelers had this afternoon).

The winnner of last year’s Lichting show, Ferry Schiffelers, got the chance to show a full collection on Friday afternoon. A breathtakingly beautiful collection, which felt like a perfect fit with it’s show location (de Nieuwe Kerk). Layers and layers of tule, golden embroideries and a final dress completely made out of flowers. Elegant, delicate, graceful; what a delight to witness a show like this.

Ronald van der Kemp Amsterdam Fashion Week september 2019

Last night Ronald van der Kemp kicked off Amsterdam Fashion Week with an evening filled fashion program. Almost every room at the Moco Museum was given a RvdK touch with pop art dresses, installations, clothing racks and the designers sketches. After the fashion guests had taken a look inside, they were invited outside for a little chat and some cocktails. Then, around ten Ronald shook things up as he sent out his models. Not just on an ordinary runway though, they came in on motorcycles, bikes and a car. All glammed up, dressed to the nines (in his latest 100% sustainable collection), only to get an extra touch up at Moco’s garden party a bit later. As Bella Hay spun some Golden Earring records by her hitsinger dad (who was attending the party himself) the Dutch fashion crowd enjoyed a splendid first Amsterdam Fashion Week night outside.
