Catwalk Trend Fall Winter 2018: Fits like a glove

Cycling to work like us? Then you´re definitely gonna need a pair of these. No winter wardrobe is completely without a decent scarf, a cool beanie and a tough pair of gloves. When it comes to dresscodes – how to wear them this season – options are endless. Wear a long pair of ladylike gloves (Ferretti, Demeuelemeester), opt for a sweater which has them attached to the sleeves (Balenciaga), pick a pair of stylish lace – yet not very warm – gloves (Dolce & Gabbana) or pick a pair of sleek and sheer (almost like a pair of tights) gloves (Alexander Wang). You can even wear just one glove on one hand (Louis Vuitton). Whatever way you wear your gloves make sure they fit right and don´t leave your designer gloves on the buss or loose them on your way home.

Fall Winter Trend 2018: Shine Bright

So we have a shopping confession to make. As December is creeping up on us we´re experiencing a slight shift in our shopping habbits. As the days get darker our shopping baskets become brighter, shinier.. lit! We´re buying glitter leggings and socks, metallic skirts, sparkling tops and sequined dresses inspired by catwalk images of Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Isabel Marant and Off-White. To make sure we´ll shine bright at any upcoming (pre) X-mas party but also to give a little extra spark to any random day of the week. Life´s too short to wear boring socks anyway.

Catwalk Trend Fall Winter 2018: Corduroy Craze

We wrote about it last year, when all of a sudden corduroy was a big theme in many catwalk shows. Now, one year later there’s no denying this trend. All high street stores are packed with corduroy pieces. From dusty pink dresses to camel colored jackets and army shaded oversized shirt dresses. Perhaps you’re inspired by old images of Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg wearing matching corduroy or Diane Keaton and Woody Allen getting their cord game on. You might have seen Dustin Hoffman looking smashing in his cord blazer (another classic). Maybe it’s last years runway images that got you cord love going. Or you were just blown away by Kendall rocking those high waisted corduroy pants and Alexa Chung sporting that seventies style cord skirt. Either way it’s about time you joined in on the fun of this fabric. The fashion students at AMFI show you how it´s done. Be a good sport wear something cord!

Nothing as indispensable as a classic camel coat. Ask the Max Mara design team and they´ll tell you all about how they´ve build a large part of their success story around this fashion piece. And it´s not just an ever greener for the ladies, guys will look equally styling in a camel coat. Whether it´s from wool, corduroy or teddy. Yes, even with a funny face painted onto it the camel coat is a no brainer. Pair it with an oversized hoodie, a grey (track)suit and/or an orange colored beanie like the streetstyle stars in our gallery.

Streetwear Trend Fall Winter 2018: Hats Off!

A brick in your hat, a feather in your cap; as temperatures drop it´s about time to stack up on headpieces. Beanies and berets are still all the rage. But you might look mad as a hatter wear a flapper. A fisherman´s cap might be your cap.. err cup of tea. Or a flatcap might just make your outfit. Whatever piece of headwear you´ll be rocking this winter make sure you avoid the all-too-dressed-up look or you´ll be all hat and no cattle. Found a cool cap? Hats off to you. And now you can leave your hat on (cause you´re hair has probably fallen a bit flat anyway).

Beauty Trend Fall/Winter 2018: Nude Lips

While some beauty looks were true pieces (we discussed some of them earlier on) of art this fall season, others were more subtle. Especially when it comes to the lips make-up artists stayed very close to the models actual color. Not a lot of brown shaded, deep burgundy red lips, but different shades of light pink and a whole lot of nude lips. We selected our favorites from our backstage archives at Ackermann, Akris, Altuzarra, Balmain, Lavin, Marni and Sportmax. Eyes might have been a little wild(er) in term of color and shiny, sparkling metalic touches, but the lips remained o-so-natural.

Whether it’s checks, words, camo, florals or faces (!); a good printed coat can make your whole look. And yes guys, you can rock a short but winter proof leopard printed jacket too. Wear your checks on checks this season and match your coat with cool streetstyle classics like a beanie and a fresh pair of chunky kicks. Trench, bomber, toggle or robe style; be the prints charming anywhere you go.

For anyone who’s not in favor of the new neon trend, there’s a different palette you can opt for: neutrals. Any color mix from beige and sand to caramel and camel; creating the chicest streetwear looks. Whether office ready or date night proof, overall or co-ord, in a neutral shaded fit you’ll stand out and blend in at the same time.

Try out!
Give this classic look a modern twist by adding fanny packs and chunky kicks.

Menswear Trend FW2018: All Wrapped Up

Even big guys get cold and so many menswear labels are going for the layered look. No matter how tall, strong or tough you are, you need to wrap up to bear winter temperatures. And it turns out a heavy coat is just not enough. Men need extra layers of body warmers (Bidjan, Sunnei), thick scarves and puffer boots – don’t get cold feet now!- (Thom Browne), beanies (RaeBurn) and head wraps (Margiela). Rolling straight from sofa to streetwalk, while still covered up in your fav blanket (as seen at Marni) is even allowed when temperatures drop. Winter is here, make sure you’re well prepped!

Lucas Ossendrijver Exits Lanvin: our highlights of his fourteen years of menswear design

After fourteen years serving as creative director for Lanvin’s menswear department Lucas Ossendrijver (1970) is exiting the label. Bruno Sialelli has been named as his potential successor for the troubled fashion house. Everything is being tried to bring back to live the century old luxury fashion label that became unprofitable for the first time in a decade in 2016 when it lost €18.3 million. In 2017, losses are said to have increased to €27 million. In 2015 Alber Elbaz left Lanvin, also after fourteen years. Lanvin has been without a womenswear designer since March this year. So two new creatives have to be named. But before we talk future plans and successors, let’s take a look at fourteen years of menswear created by the Dutch designer.

Ossendrijver graduated at Artez and started out designing at Kenzo and Dior Homme before stepping into the world of Lanvin menswear in 2006, which didn’t yet have a clear signature at that time. In fourteen years Ossendrijver managed – first together with Elbaz, later on by himself – to develop a Lanvin lifestyle/mindset for men of any age. And his Sunday morning shows always formed one of the highlights of Paris fashion week.

Clicking through his work his signature design code is present in any of his collections over the past fourteen years. Ossendrijver’s designs were about tailoring mixing in technical and activewear influences. His designs were classic (but with the right touch of modernity and surprise) and subtle, but the designer aspect of it showed in every look. And if you couldn’t see it at a first glimpse, you sure felt it after touching/feeling the fabric (he called himself a fashion whisperer). With Ossendrijver as creative director Lanvin menswear was never about hype or trend, it was about dressing natural and effortless. “My interest in fashion has more to do with clothes than with trend. I will never get bored of clothing, but I will of trends”, he said in a de Volkskrant interview in 2016.

The designer, who named the Fall/Winter 2010–2011 show as one of his favorites because he then really could feel the impact of what he sent out on the catwalk – played with proportions and asymmetry a lot. Besides the black, the white, the grey Ossendrijver used the most lovely, warm color palettes of burgundy, ocher and emerald green. His work is so consistent that if you now were to pick out the most colourful looks of any collection and put them together they’d form a perfect collection too. In any collection you could count on colourful footwear (Ossendrijver is keen on his sneakers made out of the best materials), remarkable headpieces and a quirky sense of styling. The model cast was always a surprise as well; skinny, punk-y boys (David Bowie is Ossendrijvers all time fashion inspiration) with flap ears, slightly feminine features and the most outstanding hairdos. “The models have to have enough personality to be able to wear my designs”, he told de Volkskrant.

Ossendrijver loved the pace of fashion. The opportunity to reinvent yourself every half year. In an interview when asked how he’d see himself in ten years from now Ossendrijver answered: “Gardening in a quiet spot somewhere, preferably in a sunny place, by the sea.” Let’s hope it’s not his net move yet. We’d love to see much more of his view on menswear fashion. But for now let’s look back at his most outstanding work:
